Dreadsteeds - are they worth it - do you have one?Follow

#77 Jul 21 2008 at 12:54 AM Rating: Decent
I took the best of both worlds.

I have my Dreadsteed for when I'm NOT doing BGs, and I have my War Ram for when I'm in BGs.

Seemed like an easy option to me. I mean, farming honor in Alterac Valley tends to build up your AV tokens anyways, may as well blow them away on something useful, lol.

Though to answer the questions, Yes. I have a Dreadsteed and I've never regretted getting it. It was rather fun to run through Scholo with my warrior friend and going with another warlock I ran into on the trade channel into DM west with a group to get our dreadsteeds. A magical moment that was. Nearly a disaster though. We wiped JUST as the ritual ended, so the ritual went through and we were able to resurrect, heal up, and fight the horsie :D

Look, just the fact only US WARLOCKS can have it makes it worth it.
If you didn't get it or you're too lazy to get it,you'll find "reasons" why its not worth it.

Just got it last night actually.

Was definitely worth it to me, found another lock with the items I needed so I didn't have to spend the 250g, so all in all I saved money compared to buying an epic mount and had a very fun experience doing the quest.

Well, three months after starting this thread, I finally got my dreadsteed a couple of days ago.

During the last 3 months, I've been busy levelling up and generally enjoying Outland too much to think about the Dreadsteed all the time. I would log in, think about it, then get on with something else. However, as previously stated I have always planned on getting it, and when the opportunity presented itself I immediately went for it.

I found the summoning of the Dreadsteed and the epic fight to tame it lots of fun and think its a real shame that the quest ends in a virtually ignored instance.

In answer to my own questions then:

Quote:
1) Do you own a Dreadsteed and do you now think it was worth doing so looking back?

Yes, I think it is worth it. I always felt slightly ashamed running around on an epic chicken and not on a Dreadsteed, especially with other warlocks in the area who had their steeds.

Quote:
2) Is there a certain amount of prestige in owning one and do you look down on level 60+ locks who don't have one?

Not sure about the prestige and I would find it impossible, and rather silly after 3 months without one myself, to look down on players without one.

So in summary:

Yay for me.

I also have my Dreadsteed.

Was it worth it... maybe. It looks cool enough. But as was mentioned it's a dead give away of your class and in BG's makes you a great target. (My mage looks for Locks on these and targets them right away.) So because of this I went ahead and got my Ram from BG's to use in BG's. Outside of that I use my Steed.

As far as looking down on other Locks who didnt get one, NO WAY. Just because I chose to get one, doesnt mean they wanted to go through all the BS to get one. I had a helpful guild, and we tore it out in no time. Others aren't always so lucky.

It's all a matter of opinion. For class purists, I guess having it is a must, kinda like having all the recipes for a tradeskill even though you will never use that level 5 pattern you just bought.

A Porshe is a car, a Corolla is a car, they both get you to your destination, it's just the Porche looks so much more fun to drive.

Worth it? Yes. If only for that wonderful event that is the ritual in Dire Maul. That and the quest chain to get it gave me almost half a level from 60 to 61. Very nice.

That and it gave me an excuse to drag some family members into Dire Maul who'd never seen it before. Win-win all the way around. And it saved my broke sister-in-law almost 400g in getting her mount. :) Since we both shared out the mats for the bell/book/candle quests and I bought the jar, lodestone and glyphs. Nice exp and it looks nice running across Zangarmarsh. Smiley: grin

All warlocks should have their Dreadsteed and all warlocks should be able to summon their Doomguard. It's a warlock thing i guess :P

After reading this thread last week I started Wed to get my steed. I only have a couple of hours at night to play since I have a wife and two kids and have to wait for them to get to bed.

I was able to get everything done besides the two insta's before friday. Friday night my guildies helped me run through Scholo and DM to get the steed. It's WAY better than the normal mount. I'm pretty happy with it.

It gave me about 1/2 a level going that way so if you're doing it with guys that are your level you'll get more XP but it would be a serious ***** to complete.

I got mine yesterday and it was well worth it. I gathered all the materials and did all the quests. The Blood was the worst. Then me and my guild (plus one random friend) went in and just murdered scholomance and DMW. After 60 in outlands gear it was a blast.

yes i got mine, yes it was worth it

all the begging in guild for help when they had free time (drn dailies), planning with friends only have them not show up, running blind with pug groups, selling everything i had on the ah and then having to farm for more stuff to sell.... borrowed gold too

and best of all was: figuring out the number of times it takes to die, by throwing your toon off of the roof of scholo, cause you're not keyed, and you're desperate to finish the quest, and no one is running scholo --- you take a look around inside scholo and figure out that yes you really do need a group, and then waiting 2 more months to actually get a group to run you thru! -- it became a joke for me :)

(but then i can only semi-seriously play every other weekend when the kids are at their dad's, so two months is not a lot of game time to me, sigh) -- lol

Ha ha. Most people kill themselves with Hellfire. Fast, and no durability loss.

My dread stead quest was full of drama, lol. I got all the stuff I needed from the AH, and just figured that I'd pay for the parts needed to summon it. A 70 lock in my guild said that he had them, but he also said that he'd never go back to DM for that quest ever again. ugh.

So I got to the Scholo part, and my boyfriend ran me through that. I pissed him off so bad because I kept forgetting that I had a huge aggro radius, and it almost killed him several times (he didn't care that I died a bunch).

It took me a few days to convince him to take me through DM. I really wasn't sure what to expect, but we duo'd our way to Immo'thar pretty easily- it just took about an hour. And then the ritual started. We wiped hard. He had no AoE abilities, and no way to get multiple mobs off of me. It was about 3:30am Server time, so no one was on to help us. I just kind of sat there for 20 minutes starring at the screen. I was convinced that I'd never be able to convince my boyfriend to do this again.

And then a ray of hope. My favorite resto shaman in the guild signed on. He and I are pretty close because we run a lot of instances together outside of normal raids, and he agreed to help me out. I was so happy that he came. It was really easy since he was there. Chain Heals when we needed it, and Chain lightning when we didn't need heals.

It was a lot of work to get my Dread Stead, but I haven't regretted it for a single second. It's more than just a mount- it's a status symbol. People see a level 60 warlock (well, 64 now), and they know that they aren't just some noob- they either have people or a lot of money to pay people.

The ritual part is worth it. I've done it on four different toons, and on my warlock three times.

Though, use a PvP mount for PvP. Dreadsteeds are "kill me" signs (not that warlock gear isn't enough, but the other mounts help).

It's also worth it for the extra bag space if you don't do PvP at all, because lord knows if you've got a crafting profession, with soul shards in the mix, there's no such thing as enough bag space.

I got mine yesterday :)

Not really been levelling my lock (as I figured outland on a normal mount would be painful), but I worked on the blood quest and gathering mats (luckily I horde most things, so only had to buy a few dark iron ore that I was too lazy to farm).

Tagged along with some guildies to help a paladin get their mount and did the imp bit and then yesterday went to DiM with more guildies (including warlock with items) and got my quest finished.

I think the mount looks awesome and it's one of the things that made me want a warlock in the first place.

I got both that paladin and warlock mount sorted post-BC (though I helped others with the quest pre-BC) and have to say it has a lot to do with my helpful guild. I did pug some parts though for my paladin mount, but I think you'd need to be very patient to find a group for them now.

I just really like having class specific mounts (need to hunt down the doomguard quest too, as I haven't started that yet), it makes me feel that my character is more well rounded. I went back at 70 to do the mage piggymorph quest and farmed ZG for the turtle book (guildies ftw once more). I've also done the flightform quest for both of my level 70 druids, I guess I just like having stuff which is specific to only one class.

Finally got my mount last night, it was really exciting to do the ritual to summon the Dreadsteed. I had 4 lvl 70's with me and it was very easy. Thank god it's over! My chicken mount is in the bank now :)

I like dread mount but I still says it not worth it if don't have good guild behind you. I still say easier to buying elite mount unless have good guild just like Raw Deal. If you solo and don't have good guild BUY you mount it will cost about same dread mount with no headaches. I was able get my at 62 because I got into a good guild but without them it would be very hard do the quest in schoolman and DM because not alot of people run those dungeons least not on my server. I think somebody say he solo it by himself at 70 w/tier armor but that not what most people what to hear I didn't want to wait until 70 to get 100%ac mount, where is fun in that.
