Sure why not? It's, in my opinion, one of the coolest looking mounts in the game and costing only a little bit more, if not less depending on AH prices and your assorted trade skills, is well worth it. The quests aren't really all that difficult, as a 62 lock, I was able to do it all in the matter of a couple lazy days.

I got it at 63 to save on riding training. I barely if ever use it. Mostly use my flier or Ram/War Elekk.

I got mine at level 60 toke a couple days heres the story...

I had no guild.. so i was shouting in orgrimmar that i'd pay people to run me through Scholomance now this wasent to bad i paid two level 70s 25g each and got scholo done.

So i need to go to diremaul i did the same thing shouting in orgrimmar for people
A level 70 lock in full tier 6 says he'll help
tier 6 lock says: How much you pay?
me: 50g (I thought i'd pay him 50 because i am sure he could solo it.)
Tier 6 lock says: rofl
me: Oh.. how much do you want then?
Tier 6 lock says: 200g
me: yeah no thanks peace
tier 6 lock says: just farm for couple hours and come pay me

Luckily i have a good cousin with a great guild who ran me through for free.

Oh yeah forgot to mention my first group to diremaul wiped on the last pylon before the final boss the tank left and dident say a thing so we had to leave=/.

I refused to level past 60 until I got mine. When I see a 70 lock without it, I cringe.

Real warlocks have a Dreadsteed.

QFT. Is it worth it? Totally. I had mine waaaay back in the day, when people ran the quest all the time and you could actually sell runs for it.

How do you know if they have it or not? Just because they're riding something else doesn't mean they don't have a dreadsteed too.

This is all ver interesting. I hadn't planned on getting mine because I like the 100% Kodo better. It seems that if you don't want it, ppl see you as less than a lock.

Is that the overall feeling? Because I'm grinding rep for my Kodo, simply because I like how it looks and don't particularly care for the steed.

If you don't ride it, you might as well be a mage.

I remember helping a friend of mine do his on his lock alt...it was interesting. It was a full group of 70s aside from him, so we steam roll through things, go through scholo, get to the room, and start the event up. We're having fun steam rolling the waves of 60 mobs, laughing at how easy it is now, saying we should go back to UBRS for fun after someone mentions our 5 mans of the place pre-BC. Times passes...and passes...and passes. The event isn't completing. This is weird, why is this taking so long? The healer is starting to get kinda low on mana....really low on mana. It was at about this point in time that we realized the event was bugged. I think after about 15 minutes the event finally clicked into place, and the game fixed whatever had been going wrong, but it was pretty funny almost wiping in scholo after all this time.

About half-way done with the dreadsteed quest and asking myself if it's worth it. It's just time/gold consuming and as I plan to be doing more PvP (BGs and some arena) with this lock than anythings else, having a special mount just screams "Here's a warlock, right here! Come stun-lock me plz!!! Mmmm... tasty caramel center!" (Which is what I did on my rogue ofc ;) So I can't really say for sure that it's worth it.

This weekend I'll see if any guildies have the heart to run Scholo and DM with me. That's the real test. If I can, great. If not I don't think I'll care too much.

I'll probably finish it at some point 'cause, well, it is a zombie horse on fire after all. I mean... it's on fire!

But for AV I'll have my frostwolf out instead, thank you very much.

i'm not too keen on getting the dreadsteed for my lock. it looks cool, i'll admit that much. but after leveling a hunter and getting most of the epic mounts available, i'm not that enthusiastic for more questing/grinding.

maybe i'll change my mind once i get my lock to 70 or 80. for now the be racial mount is good enough.

I got my steed pretty early into the 60's and love it, I would recommend every lock getting one, but I am seriously thinking of going for exalted with trolls to get a Raptor...just because they are my second favorite mount. Maybe I should go for the raptor PVP mount instead.

A: It costs more to get than a regular epic racial mount since you have to pay people to do the instances required.
1. It doesn't cost more, even if you buy mats off AH its still 150-200g cheaper.
2. You "should" be in a guild by now, if not spam the grecruitment forum on the oboards.
3. If you farm the materials, buy the 4 final items= 250g, Racial mount at exalted is 640g.

B: People see you on a big *** horse on fire and know you're a warlock and try to kill you as soon as possible. I'll stick with my mechanical chicken kthnx. I too did like the first half of the quest, then scrapped it and bought a racial mount. The quest just isn't worth doing anymore except as a novelty item.

1. People see a mechanical chicken they have a possibility of 4 classes, 2 can be dropped(cloth)(warlock/Mage), and 2 pose a threat(plate/leather)(warrior/rogue)
2. The first quests, assuming you farmed the AH for em cost 200-300g, add that to your chicken(640) and you're looking at 840-940g for a mount cause you were too lazy to get the 2nd best horse in the game.

i have had mine since i got to 60, i started to get the mats before the quest line if i recall. it really is not that bad of a quest. at the very least, think of this way, while doing the quest line you will be killing mobs, think of it as just 'grinding' anyway.

the cost was less than that of if i had gotten an epic mount. i went into DM with someone else who had a guildmate who had the mats to do the summoning.

it was well worth it. if at the very least, it will save a bag slot.

I've had mine since 60 also. I always wanted a chicken tho... so I have both. Once bag space got tight, the chicken had to go. I think they should make a fiery chicken mount! I mean, Al Gore has to hate them already, my chicken runs like Uncle Bucks car.....Smiley: cool

Starting the day I decided to create a lock I researched the quest chain and all items I would need.

The every day, yes every day, I would check ah for the items I knew I would not be able to farm myself. Sometimes you can catch things very cheap there.

Then when I hit 60 I had to decide did I want to borrow, buy or rent the items needed for the final quest. I choose to buy mine so in the future I could help others who might need the quest.

yes the mats can be expensive if you do not have a mate who can help you out on some of the items or you can not farm any of them yourself. However look what you get with it?

It is up to you once you weigh everything out for yourself. But being prepared prolly saved me 200 gold over the last minute buying.

PS if you do bg..splurge and buy another mount to use for there, They can see a lock coming a mile away and a quick sap and you are toated when mounted

Ok. One of the hardest things to get when setting up a party for DM west, it's to find someone who can open the door. A rogue is not always available and most people don't care about getting a key to an old pointless instance. BE PREPARED. Get that key. As a pretty poorly geared demolock (well, 3 pieces of gladiator gear, but still not enough spell damage to be accepted into heroic runs) I soloed the DM east wing (well, not the full wing, but enough of it to corner that imp Pusillin who drops it, and to kill him and his buddies. Be careful though, he reflects spells back to you, wand him). This was after I got the steed though, but I decided to have it in my inventory in case I'd see a warlock in need.
So when you have the key, all you need is a group. Well with a party 3 warlocks (lvl 70, lvl 69 and lvl 64), a lvl 62 tank and a lvl 70 pally healer, we did it with no problems. Have a competent and sympathetic group though, otherwise you won't even make it to Immolthar. With a good party though, you'll have the dreadsteed at 10% before the dreadlord even spawns.
As for the steed itself, it's a beautiful mount, looks cool, the armor plates even glimmer under the sun. The only downside of it in my opinion is the huge horns growing out of it's shoulders, disproportionate, and ugly. But well, a perfect mount does not exist. Apart from that, a very cool looking mount.
1. Yes, I own a Dreadsteed and it is worth it in my opinion.
2. Yes, there is some prestige in owning a Dreadsteed and it's really THE symbol of an accomplished 'lock. After all, as they say, "What's a warlock without his mount"?*
But I don't look down on people not having one, I know it's hard, can really get on your nerves, and furthermore there's almost nobody to look down at... 99.99% of 'locks on my server have a Dreadsteed.

*A walking warlock. That's what my party said when I asked them the question.

COMPLETE waste of time, just run a couple BGs and get one of the bad *** PvP mounts, I prefer the Frost Wolf Howler from AV over the Dreadsteed any day, while I will admit they are one of the nicer of the epic mounts, the time and gold involved just doesn't make it worth it, mats will cost you about the same to get training, and you can get a mount for either 50 AV or 30 AV/WSG/AB marks. It'll save you time, and build your honor, if you just go for the PvP mount.

And you'll be a **** poor 'lock who just advertises their laziness. :oP

No, i didnt get mine, but for good reasons!

Hit 60 a week before the xpac, had about 600g...and i'de say buying the training and getting the pvp one was definately a smart move, so much help in questing in outlands, and i dont think i coulda gotten groups together and gotten the lock one in the week before the xpac

Now im lazy and havent gone back and gotten it, i'de mainly get it cuz it looks cool, but ya know, that 150 mana is killer....
