Dreadsteeds - are they worth it - do you have one?Follow

#27 Apr 15 2008 at 9:35 AM Rating: Good
Taking into consideration all the replies, and after some thought, I’ve decided that I intend to get a Dreadsteed.

My reasons for this are that, yes I do want a cool mount, and that it is something unique for the warlock to own and be proud of.

On reaching level 60, my initial reaction was: I want an epic mount, I’m a warlock, so I want a dreadsteed now. I think I might have been mistaken in that I believed it had to be my only epic mount. I now look at the Dreadsteed as something I can achieve, and want, before I reach level 70. If I fail in the attempt then so be it, I least I tried.

After all a sense of achievement is something most of us play for and gain pleasure from, and if the harder something is to attain equals a higher sense of achievement then I’m going to be one happy lock when I finally get my dreadsteed.

I got my dreadsteed at 60 with afew friends and cost was about 400-450 gold to recieve this mount and it is one of the better looking mounts in the game. IMO its is very much worth it to get this will hold you off till you can save marks for a pvp or get the gold to buy one from rep. Also you may want to look around your server guys to see if any locks saved their items from their quest to save you a bundle of gold on the items , by helping you run through with their stuff.

No it is not worth it. I got my about week ago. Only way I can say it would be worth it if have good guild to take you throught dungeons or if have group of friends run dungeons with all the time. If solo alot like I do I would said just spent 50 to 100 gold for regular 100% mount that all really save. PS unless can find lock with all material for last dungeon then can save about 250 gold because most people only charge 100 gold to run thru last dungeon with is alot cheaper then buy last material you need which cost $350 gold.

Without a doubt, it is worth it. And I have to say, if you are not in a guild, you *really* need to find one. Even if it is not a raiding guild or anything fancy, having a guild that just works together makes things *infinately* easier. It has been said many times, WoW is not a "solo" game. I didn't really get how important a guild was until I joined a good one.

You should never pay someone to run through an instance with you. If your in a decent guild, you should be able to find people to help you out.

In the end though, yes, the mount is worth getting. Even into BC and later content, the warlock epic mount is distinct and very noticeable.

I agree with your good guild comment, I don't agree with the game not being a able to be solo. I believe WOW made the game so you can enjoy on many different level and most of game can be solo if that what wish too do. I have done it. My comment about paying another lock with final mats so you don't have to shell out $350 is viable option if you don't have good guild to depend on.

Dreadsteed is absolutley worth it. No warlock should go without it. There have been so many times where I've had my inventory full of stuff I actually need with 1 spot to spare. If I had a normal mount I'd have had a full inv.

To the people that say "But if I us3 a dr334dst33d the pplz wil kill me in pvpz lolz only nubs uz dratsteed" L O L P V P

im on the quest (just need to do dm now) and i only had to 250g the quest lines aren't that bad its just horrible to go back and forth on my computer as it takes forever to get though cities so.. i think it is defiantly worth it lvl 60-61 i worked on it (lvled cause of need of money[no main]) didn't even need help from guildies just a group for scolo

First off Gratz on 60

1. No I do not have my dreadsteed, never saw the need to get him, seeing as how I spend alot of time in bgs so a big fiery horse screams "hey a lock kill it". Before the flames start, I may not have mine but I have all the mats for the quests and gladly help the locks in my guild/friendslist get theirs whether it is through the making of pots, loaning them the materials for the summoning, a trip to an instance whatever it may be.

2. Yes there is prestige to owning it, I can't say that i have ever looked down on any lock who opts for a faction mount or pvp mount instead of their dreadsteed.

Having played a Rogue up to level 70, I have done BG's a fair bit..
That doesn't make my opinion right, but worth reading.

I have always thought that the fact the warlock is a cloth wearer, would be the solid reason why people would hammer you (or try to) in the BG's. I don't know that is just what I thought.
I know the point being made across is how the whole firey horse mount screams "Go for me".

But MY point is that wearing cloth as your armor will get you targeted a lot anyway so why not just go for the mount, it has an event for when it gets summoned and it's a class only mount.

"That's my two cents."

I agree with Boneyard.

If you get targeted in BG's, I seriously doubt it's because you're riding a Dreadsteed. It's more likely because you're wearing cloth. I think there're mounts that stand out even more than the Dreadsteed, like those big Elekk mounts that the Draenei have, or the blindingly white Talkbuk mounts with their bright blue horns from the Kurenai. Personally, when I was using my Druid in BG's, I see Firey Dreadsteed and the first thought that comes to mind is "Oh, crap, Warlock coming to get me!"

If anything, it might be as much imposing to certain players as how much it sticks out like a sore thumb. Like anything else, it depends upon the other players you're coming against.

Any so-called 'lock who doesn't have his dreadsteed should be looked down upon.

Not because it's the best looking mount in the game (Netherwing), or because it carries the most prestige (first epic flyer) but because it PROVES that you have what it takes to get through one of the toughest Q chains, the patience to farm, PuG and Instance and the skill to survive THE best non-raid battle in the game.

It makes you worthy of carrying the name Warlock.

Nuff said. QED. Et cetera.

Right before the Burning Crusade was released, I hit 60 and did all the soloable parts of the Dreadsteed quest, went broke, and decided to save all the items I had gained from the quest for later. Later, another Warlock in my guild needed to do the quest, and since I already had all the items ready, and really just needed to do the final Dire Maul part, I decided to get a couple of guildies together and finally finish up my Dreadsteed quest.

1. Was it worth it? YES. The Dreadsteed is an awesome mount, although I also love my epic Mechanostrider. Warlock on a Dreadsteed, on a roleplaying realm, will not be very effective in hiding his identity, disguised as a "normal" mage. Dreadsteed is a pretty awesome looking mount, and even though Gnomes look kind of silly one one, at least I'm not a male Orc, Orcs were probably never designed to look good while sitting on the back of a horse, be it a normal horse, or a crazy flaming demonic Dreadsteed horse...

2. I don't look down on Warlocks who do not have a dreadsteed. I realize that there is kind of a "prestige" involved with having completed the quest, but especially since the Burning Crusade is released, this questline has become a great pain in the rear.

Should you get a Dreadsteed? Well, that's up to you to decide. If you have to go through the "Pugging" process for the instances, you might want to hold off on the Dreadsteed part, since it's hardly possible to find people for the "Old World" dungeons (GIEF HEROIC OLD WORLD FFS). But then again, the dreadsteed IS an awesome looking mount (provided you're not an Orc, Orcs SHOULD ride a dangerous looking Wolf, or Raptor, or Kodo, but not a horse).

Ha ha. You think that's bad? You should see how draenei ride horses. Draenei ride with a weird bow legged pose that was designed for the gigantic elekks. It looks really weird on horses.

Draenei are alien space squid monsters who crashed their spacecraft...err..."Dimensional Fortress" on Azeroth. They're supposed to look funny. Then again...Orcs are aliens who came through a Stargate...err..."Dark Portal" to invade Azeroth.

But still, Orcs seem much more "at home" in Azeroth then those space squid monsters are...

If you have all the mats and you actually go to the instances to help, why not just get it? No one said you have to use it all the time, but if your already there then why not?

Got mine this week, did the quest with guildies but ut bugged out on me so I couldn't get it until I filled out a ticket. Overnight the GM must have given it to me because I was sitting in the middle of Thrallamar atop him. Is a very cool mount, there really isn't any reason not to spend a few hours to get him. Even if you wait until 70 and just collect the mats along the way. I am very proud I got mine, it is a badge of honor for locks. IMO of course.

Yes I have mine, got it at level 60.

I think it was worth it, but it's totally a matter of personal opinion.

No I don't look down on any player that doesn't have a certain item, that's silly.

I got mine, and had fun with it because I am a member of a great guild. No not some uber raiding guild with a bunch of T5 70s to help me. Just a good core group of nice people that will do just about anything to help out their guild mates when they want/need something. I will say that I did have another level 70 character helping to fund my Warlock at the time, and that one of my guild mates had all the items needed for the final summon so I didn't have to buy them. That being said, I would highly recommend finding a good guild. I am a mostly solo player (at least when leveling), but there's nothing like having a good core group of guild mates that you can count on for those hard quests and instancing...
