I've been browsing and haven't really found anything concerning how high my stats should be before going into Kara. I intend on going in as an Afflic lock.

A gear list would be absolutely wonderful.

Gear list is something you can find at kailbans on your own.

stats should be 8k mana and hp.

Spell dam should be 700 with fel armor

If you're going as affliction, crit is not a major concern.

spell hit needs to be as high as you can get it. There are actually a number of greens and quest rewards that if you saved them can gt you close to the hit cap.

an armory link would also be helpful.

These stats are the lowest possible to be effective. 700 dmg with fel armor is incredibly low. 100+ spell hit and speccing into a lot of Suppression with affliction would be a definite with that kind of gear. Khara is scrub pug though, easy and easy, even with those stats you could very likely top damage charts on boss mobs.

Use Supression. It would be a waste of space to go out of your way to get spell hit gear, when spell damage is more practical.
It's rare for my warlock to be resisted, and even then, it's less likely to equal a failed attack because I dont rely on burst damage the way a mage might.
Of course, someone may come along and tell me how wrong I am and blah blah blah, but I been going as long as I have and have not seen any adverse affects.

At higher gear levels you can spec into +dmg talents and get the +hit from your gear and do more damage, but yes, suppression is the afflic lock ungeared boss damage gamebreaker. Not wrong at all, absolutely correct.

One of the more experienced warlocks can correct me if I'm wrong, but even as Affliction, 50% of your damage comes from SB spam. (Unless you show up with a build without at least 10 points in Destruction.) Up to the spell hit cap, Spell hit rating is the biggest boost in DPS you can get.

I've heard this as well, that's why Supression is an average talent almost exclusively used for filler points.

So I'm looking for hit cap first? 202 hit.
Then 1000+ damage?
8k mana and 8k HP.

Anything on crit rating? SBs are still staple (Nightfall proc and you spam SBs anyways).

Thanks for your help by the way. :)

manic i would argue that your min stats are to high for entering kara. Those stats would be for end of kara and i agree.

Sbolt spam is a big chunk of your dps. my recount puts it at 40 to 50 percent sometimes. So many times, currupt and sbolt spam is what you do in kara. Boss battles are a different story where you can put in your dot rotation then move back to sbolt spam.

Again Sederix, you post utter crap.

The reason why stacking Spell Hit is important is that 50% or more of your damage comes from Shadow Bolt, even as Affliction. Suppression only affects Affliction Spells, and Shadow Bolt is Destro. By ignoring Spell Hit, your ignoring 50%+ of your damage. I would aim for at least the soft cap around 74, and yes, you canmake up the rest with Suppression, but if you get more, you can have less points in Suppression, freeing up points for other talents.

Before replacing some of my gear, and now I need to re-gem, I was at 202 Hit Rating and 1054 Spell Damage, the other locks in my guild with more Spell Damage and more +Crit and less +Hit could not out damage me. Why do you think that is. Take a look at leulier's spreadsheet, plug in your gear, and you'll see you can get more damage out of +Hit than anything else until you are Hit Capped.

As I went to Kara for first time last night this is a great thread for me (got the dagger drop off the Prince too, which was nice - now just need an off-hand!).

It's only now I realise how low I am on certain stats - mainly, +dmg and +hit.

Now I wonder if some kind-hearted 'Lock expert would review my gear and suggest some replacements.

Linky-loo

Now I did ok. Around 3rd on the on the Damage Meter for the boss fight. But I was some way behind the mage and rogue (not surprising - they are top, top geared). I got resisted a lot on CoA and Corr (but not SB for some reason). I KNOW I lack +hit and my +dmg is only 735 self-buffed.

I just need to know the gear to chase really, and where to get it. I'll be perusing the Armory too, of course, but wondered on your thoughts, chaps (and chapettes - where IS Sethy?).

There's nothing which says you can't have both: most Spell Damage gear has Spell Hit or Crit on it, and most of the time it's a Hit/Crit tradeoff rather than a Hit/Damage. In my boss-fight gear I'm Hit Capped and at about 900 Shadow Damage including Fel Armour, and not one piece of my gear comes from anything above Karazhan. This set includes a green trinket from a Netherstorm quest!

If you use Suppression to make up for what are essentially gaping holes in your gear the flaws are going to be obvious. Yes, Spell Damage is also an important stat, but that counts for nothing when Soulshatter gets resisted, you get 1-shot and the boss goes after all the other DPS who were above 100% threat and should have been perfectly safe.

TLDR: The fact that your Shadow Bolts would hit like a truck means nothing when they end up missing like a truck.

Keep going at the Shattered Sun Dailies and get the Exalted necklace. Farm up your Aldor reputation for the proc.

There's an Elite Ooze that spawns regularly in the far east of Netherstorm. It drops a quest which leads to a nice Spell Hit trinket. Ask your guild for help with that one and replace your Oculus with it.

Regem your Intellect gems with Great Dawnstones and your blue Stamina gems with Glowing +STA/+DMG Nightseyes.

Gloves off of Attumen the Huntsman are the best you'll find in T4 raids AFAIK, so get those if you can.

See if you can get the Glyph of Power for that helm, from Shat'ar rep.

Your helm and bracer Socket bonuses aren't that incredible, you might want to look into putting Great Dawnstones in them.

You're a gent. Exactly what I was after.

I did NOT know you could resocket gems, however...so thanks very much for that too. :o)

EDIT: How, by the way? (at work, can't log in)

Just shift-right-click the item and drag the gems into the frame that pops up, like you did socketing it originally. You can't see the colours of the socket but the border around the gem will have little sparkles going around it if the colour matches that of the socket (like a pet spell set to autocast).

Just overwrites the previous gems, huh. Cool, thanks.
