Tank gemsFollow

So I've seen various posts about gemming for pure Stamina. With my current setup, I have 5 gems that are not pure stamina. I am fully epiced out in Kara/Badge gear with the Heroic MgT mace and trinket, blacksmithing boots, TK trash ring and DMC: V. If I were to replace those 5 gems mentioned above, I would be 1.07% crushable for a gain of 16 Stamina.

Now, I could put my Figurine of the Colossus back on to get uncrushable, but I'd replace either a 51 stamina or 57 stamina trinket, making a net loss in stamina of 35 or 41.

At least for me it's not so easy to just say, "Gem for stamina," being a Paladin tank. That may work for Warriors and Druids, and Paladins at higher gear levels, but not for Paladins starting out raids or in Tier 5 content.

Discuss :)

I feel your pain and I think it goes without saying, you have to be sure that you are uncrit and uncrushable before you go straight stamina.

CAse in point, I just replaced the jade-skull breastplate with the 2.3 chest piece and planned on going straight +12 stam gems in it. Then, I found out that even if i enchanted +15 defense to the badge chest, I STILL was roughly 1% short of uncrushable.

This forced me to change gem slots somewhere else and put in enduring talasite (+6 stam/+4 defense) in order to keep uncrush status.

Blah its tough. I've seen some epic loot drop in heroic runs that I assume are for tanking warriors and I've just passed on em cuz its hard to find replacements for the shatar belt and the flesh beast boots. :(

OFf topic: So, did you find it difficult tanking Heroic MgT to get the trinket and the mace? what was your gruop makeup?

My first run at it was also my most successful. If I remember correctly it was a Resto Shaman, 2 Mages, and a Lock? Pretty sure that's what it was. CC is your friend there, even as a Paladin, and we had so much firepower that we didn't even see a shield + pyroblast from Kael: we just killed him too fast. Both items dropped from the same run, as well as the healing chest which I got to replace the one from Kara.

For me it's a pretty easy run, as with all things, if I have a good group. I am fully epiced out after all. For someone in all blues, it would be significantly harder, but I'm sure still doable. imo a "decent" group just won't do. What I mean is a good tank and healer can pretty much carry weak DPS through most any Heroic, but if you try that in MgT, you'll fail.

EDIT: I was looking at the new Badge loot doing some calculations with TankPoints: I can't change my chest to the new Badge one and remain uncrushable >.< I didn't try adding things like the 15 Defense to chest, or Defense on cloak, but using the new chest with a Solid Star of Elune and 6 stats, crushable.

Had hoped by this gear level it would be easier to remain uncrushable. Nope, still have to check for pitfalls.

It's strange the way itemization works for pallies.

You can get uncrushable with pure stamina gemming in PRE-RAID gear, but once you fill out your first set of PvE epics the block+avoidence seems to vanish a smidge and you find yourself needing either +6 STA/+4 Dodge or +6 STA/+4 Def gems.

In your case, you have 2 hawt stamina trinkets and no avoidence trinket (though the MrT trinket can be seen as one, it doesn't provide constant reliable avoidence) so you've got it covered.

I considered using the Commendation/DMC:V combo for everyday use, but I ended up opting for one of those slots to go to my Figurine: Empyrean Tortise for a little while. Hey, it's new.. I wanna check it out.

And that 16 Stamina *could potentially* be 31 stamina too... Still not worth it, but just putting that out there.

Pretty much exactly as I see it, when you're not uncrushable you do need to socket for avoidance (the stam/def gems are my fave) but as long as you can maintain uncrushability, then every socket should be 12 (or 15) stam, the set bonus or extra avoidance is almost never worth the drop in stam.

I find myself maintaining two sets, one where I am very much crushable, but have over 500 spell damage for aoe/trash/5 man tanking, made up mostly of proper pally gear, and another made up of warrior gear, where I am just about uncrushable, but have much less spelldamage, the theory being that the extra spamhealing on a boss fight should allow me to maintain consecrate without going oom and amp up the threat. Despite this I regularly find myself running oom in boss fights on the only stuff my guild lets me tank (kara).
