So I pugged and got a good healer and 3 mages to run H Ramps. I'm getting hit for 1200 and really giving the healer a hard time (10k life makes it hard). Is there an instance I should run to get badges? Any ideas how to gain more stam? Was so happy that I hit 497 def and >5% uncrush... but now I'm wondering what I'm doing in heroics...

Looking for any and all advice.

Heroics hit hard. 1200 seems sort of low, frankly. If you get deeper into Ramps they'll hit you for MUCH more than that.

But then again, an heroic geared healer (if it's not a druid) should be able to manage that.

Still as far as you go: No armor on your pants? Slap at least clefthide if not nethercleft on there.

Agility on your gloves? /sigh

No shoulder enchant? /double sigh

It looks like you gemmed for set bonuses, not for stam. Bad paladin. the +hit rating that you gemmed your helm for isn't really doing you a whole heck of a lot of good.

You're not in bad shape on your gear but you've made some porr choices (or no choices) in improving that gear. Work on that and make sure that your healer has taken the same care and you should be fine.

looking at his gems they dont look bad. only socket bonus i see bad is the helm but the dodge probaly to help with his avoidance. i know i passed on some sta gems to get uncrushable. other than that i see nothing wrong has same stats i had prekara lots of same gear. i didnt run heroics till after i got some kara gear.

if your not running kara go for more sta since you wont be crushed in heroics.

i like slave pens for heroic easy badges if peeps know how to skip most the ent trash. mobs hit me for about 2k there though with 300 being blocked.

Helm, gloves and pants gemmed for bonus - neither of which grants a dodge bonus. But even if one was, the honored Aldor shoulder inscription give 13 dodge rating which should more than make up for trading dodge for stam.

Yes there's a paltry parry and a block rating bonus on two of those but if you're not worried about uncrush (and he's got 7 points to work with to stay at uncrit) but you are dying? Stam seems the way to go doesn't it?

Oh wait, you said that.

After I did.

No, I'm not dying actually. Had a holy pally with +19xx heals. Good pally. But I was suprised at how hard I was getting hit. Might just be that it was the first time I've ever been in a Heroic (kinda use to those lvl 70ds hitting me 1 in 3 times and not for 10% of my life). Sounds like I can make some changes to my gear (gems and chants) to make that better. Also sounds like I should hit my guild up and run Kara a few times to get some epic pieces.
Agi on the gloves... yeah. Avoidance. Goes with the boots if I remember (not looking at my toon) for at least 1% avoid. Though (again without looking) I'm betting I can lose a yellow defence gem in my helm for a +stam (as I do have 16 def points to spare 2.4x7=16.8). I'm sure I can find another yellow gem to ditch. And you have givin me a new goal with this toon (as I've just been doing dailys in my spare time while lvling a mage). Aldor rep.

Thanks a million.
Feel free to add more if you have more to say.

Personally, tanking heroics has been a big hurdle to try to get over, and quite frankly I still am not even THINKING of stepping into some heroics.

I have roughly 13.5k life unbuffed and to be honest, getting above 13k life has GREATLY opened heroic tanking options. Heroic mobs just hit too hard to be risking a smaller life total.

If you are at 10k, you are too low. Its possible to hit around 11.5-12k without getting extremely difficult loot pieces and in heroics, since you can't get crushed, its generally ok to sacrifice avoidance in place for stamina instead.

When I was at 11.5k, I was tanking Heroic Mech and Heroic SP without much difficulty.

Now that I have 13.5k life or so, I've braved Ramps, Blood Furnace and Botanica. I have yet to jump into heroic Mana Tombs or Slabs because I hear, the boss fights are quite difficult. (although I think I'm gonna give it a shot this week)

I assume you are trying to get the badges for the libram of repentance and for possible 2.3 loot. If so, fastest way for me was to do two things:

1)Run H Mech everyday. (with locks and interrupts, this instance is VERY EASY) Also, by running this u build up the rep for exalted with shatar (for the shield) and u farm up Sun Eater (drop only in heroic mech and while not necessarily a good pally tanking sword, it does have nice defensive stats if you can allow a lack of spell damage)

2)Get on runs that have Kara on farm. (its 22 badges, PLUS some ok tanking loots. Definitely upgrades from those that you probably have.) While you won't be main tank, there is nothign wrong with tanking trash.

After looking at your gear, I can't really say that those slots aren't optimized, honestly, I think farming normal SV or heroic (if u can manage) is good because its fairly fast and you not only get rep for the nice neck piece, but u get a chance at a REALLY good back piece in the devilshark cape.

I wouldn't worry too much about gemming for avoidance right now. 120life per solid star i think is more important for heroics as of your gear now. I think one piece of gear that is GODLIKE and is fairly easy to get is Figurine of the Colossus from SHattered HAlls. SHattered HAlls normal is cake for a Tankadin and the avoidance bonus from the trinket is really awesome.

Just some ideas.

11-12k is the comfort zone for Slave Pens, Mechanar, Ramps, and maybe Underbog. Underbog is stupid easy yes.. but the 2 bog lords before the first boss hit like trains so a little HP there doesn't hurt.

Every heroic has that particular mob that will just eat you alive. If there are Naga wearing huge plate armor with giant axes... that's them. Fel Orcs who wear the same are the same deal. You know the ones I mean.. they're immune to ALL forms of CC (though slowing effects usually work) may or may not be immune to taunt, and MAY have an aggro wipe like knocking you back.

By the time you REACH 12k HP, those heroics should be a walk in the park. And honestly... who in their right mind runs Heroic Shadow Labs to farm for badges every day? Not many people even have time to run four heroic instances in a day, so if all you want is badges there's nothing wrong with stickin to the easy guys.

But yes... be looking for 13-14k HP for the harder heroics :D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*ahem* sorry. It's not that I disagree with you on the godlieness of the trinket. Or even that SHnormal is pretty easy for a paladin.

Getting the freaking thing to DROP, however, not always so easy.

I must agree on that one to an absurd degree. I ran SH every day for 3 weeks without seeing it. It was almost as elusive as the Female Gnome Prot Warrior WITHOUT Pink Hair.

But for tanking stick to SP, Mech, and UB. Yes the two Bog Lords hit like the fist of an angry god, but a Hunter or Mage can probably fix that with some Kiting.

Also, as others said, go to Kara before Heroics. It's MUCH easier as you have 2 or 3 healers when mobs are hitting you for just a tiny bit more than Heroics.
