How does an Spriest rotation go?Follow

Recently started a priest and am leveling as shadow. I just hit level 20 and got Mind Flay and I'm not sure how to use spells effectively. Before 20, I would SWP, MB, and then wand to death and it worked great. Now that I've got Mind Flay, I've got a few other options. I sometimes pull with SWP, and MF constantly til about 25/40% and then wand the rest of the way. Sometimes I pull with MF and as soon as it's done, toss SWP and MF 'til it's dead.

I just wanna know a decent rotation for grinding. Any help is appreciated.

My priest is at 40, and has Shadow form. I think you should start with a long cast spell like MB or Smite, the SWP, a couple MF, then wand. Can usually go non stop, unless you get an add. Then I will shield or scream and work on the first one, heal and start on 2nd one starting a SWP.

So it's okay to MF with a mob right on top of me?

Only if you shield yourself. Which I normally don't do on my priest since it takes a good bit of mana. Depending on the area, you can fear them off you and use Mind Flay.

My shadow priest also just hit 20, which means I haven't yet got the talent that extends your range, and I can only get in one Mind Flay. So for me it looks like this while grinding:

Mind Blast - SW:P - Mind Flay - Renew - Wand

I stick that Renew in even on easy mobs (since I don't have VE yet), just for efficiency - by the time I get to the next mob I've got full health and mana.

Multiple mobs is a little different, at this point, it's mostly SW:P everybody, scream or bubble as needed, keep renew up, and hope for the best while taking down one at a time.

As you are not yet in Shadowform, go with a long cast spell so I recommend this:

Holy fire (adds a DoT component as well)
Walk Backwards and cast SW:P
Mindflay... pending distance and talents (blackout???)
Second Mindflay if the mob is still closing, if not then go to
Mind Blast

At this point you can either go to wands, or shield and MF...

This should give you overall good damage and increase a low level SP's dps slightly. Use Renew as your primary heal as well. If possible, you want to stop casting between 3 - 5 seconds prior to the mob dies to try to maximize as much of your Spirit Tap as possible. Then pull your next mob with a Holy Fire (3 second cast time) when you have 4 seconds left on your Spirit Tap as you continue to regen mana up until the spell is actually cast.

What he said.

With shadow reach, I open with MB, run SIDEWAYS and SWP (turn enough so MB can hit then strafe). MFx2, occasionally get hit. Then throw in a MB if its above 15-20%, SWP will finish it while you wand. I usually only have to drink every 6-7 mobs.

Edit: With VT and VE mixed in there, I can honestly go non-stop until i pull more than 1 mob.

If you're in an open area, instead of shielding, use Rank 1 Scream. That gets the mob off you, Flay should keep them in range, and it's a ton cheaper than shield.
