Moonfiring in mid air...Follow

I was in halaa killing allies for the daily quests and for tokens when I noticed one of the druid flew up higher than where I was, dropped out of flight form, moonfired me, then shifted back into flight form before going splat in Halaa.

I have tried it from the same height and I could never get out of combat for flight form from that height. I ended up going into the water below Halaa so any idea how could the driud get out of combat and shift to flight form from oh about 200 yards up? It is defiantly too high for graceful fall in cat form, and flying mount can't be summoned while moving (or falling in this case), and can't be summoned if in combat as well.

Actually, the druid flight form can be summoned while moving. He would have to be out of combat though.

Dunno about the in fight, but you can swich back to flight form while in movement with no problem.

But when in combat, flight form can't be used and the druid was able to moonfire me high in the air, then shifted to flight form. When i tried the same I couldn't use the flight form because I was still in combat.

My thoughts on this are that one of 3 things happened.

1)Combat was bugged for him, so he didn't get marked in combat when he moonfired.

2)He moonfired and waited to bei out of combat, whle the damage from moonfire ticked and kept you in combat.(Seems like it would take a while to be out of combat though)

3)There was some sort of lag where he was able to moonfire and shift before he was marked in combat.(Is this even possible?)

None of those answers seem likely, but it's about all I can think of.

In PvP (doesn't work for PvE), press ESC to bring up the menu while not fighting and not being attacked and you`ll drop out of combat after a few seconds. If you moonfire in mid-air and have a fall long enough, you can get out of combat and live to fly away. You could also shift to bear form and Feral Charge something before you go splat. Both would require lots of practice or luck.

Oooh. I can't wait to try out that feral charge thing. I'll have my healer bring his shovel to scrape up my bear remains just in case.

It's called the RAWR BOMB or the RAWR SPLAT! depending on how well it is executed ;)

Hmm, I'll have to try that trick some time.

I'm Balance so I don't have Feral Charge. I would always try and Moonfire while making sure I would fall into the lake around Halaa, but there are a few shallow spots I've discovered which don't exactly break your fall. :D

I've tried it a short while ago in Halaa and it does seem like the same trick the druid used to moonfire me without going splat.

And by odd coincidence the same druid that bothered me was at Halaa. He tried the same trick. Except in between the first and second time, I quietly lowered myself using X key. He went splat because he never noticed the ground was a little closer than first time. =) I didn't get a battle token but the players in my raid did get it. I'll bet that druid won't bother me again.

You could also just get a slow fall cloak from shatari skyguard to make your rawr bomb a little safer

lol that would suck, the point of a rawr bomb is to suprise the target, not slowly drift down shouting 'wait! il charge in in 2 seconds, dont move'

Sometimes while doing the Netherwing daily on the western ledge of Nagrand I hook an elite 72 ogre. Usually, by suicide-bailing off a cliff, I can fall out of range for combat and be able to hit flight form in time to save myself.
This may be the same tactic the druid used. Fall far enough and he should leave combat with you, while you've still got the DOT on you.

It's not exactly the same thing. Against NPCs, you'll drop out of combat when they give up and run back to their original position. Jumping in the twisting nether to escape death is a 50/50 deal for me, half the time I die from the fall before the mob gives up.

In PvP, you can drop out of combat anytime as long as you are not attacking or being beaten on. You can even be full of DoTs and still drop out of combat.
