When people talk about having or needing a certain amount of unbuffed spell damage, is that from gear only, or does it include fel armor?

I personally think it's with Fel Armor, to me that is just part of being a lock that you have this up.

Most include fel armor.

i believe this to be true for all classes:

if you can do the buff, then you count as unbuffed.
if you get buffs from some1 else, you are buffed.

e.g. a warrior with 2300 AP with BS is unbuffed, but a rogue with 2300 ap with bs is buffed

unbuffed refers to the reliance just to your own spell book and talent tree. This excludes pots, foods, scrolls, and oils.

buffed refers to the reliance on other items or abilities/spells from other classes.

What would be the point of asking a lock what their spell damage is without the buff on that helps it? You know that buff is on them anyway. Fel armor will almost 100 percent of the time be on. There will almost never ever ever be a time when a lock would not use Fel armor and if and when that points comes, you are probably in a situation where a smart player is more important than 100 spell damage.

I can bet with pretty high certainty that one of the first things every lock does is buff themselves when they log on. felarmor is effectively a 'perminant' buff for warlocks. so it's counted in the 'unbuffed' catergorisation.

Self-buffed then, if you really want to be picky. Get over it, phrasing shouldn't get a guy that worked up.

Edit: Not you jenova, I'm apparently a slow poster. This is aimed at sederix.

If I was being worked-up, then I would have pointed-out how some of you have completely redefined the prefix "un" to meet your needs ;).
Buffs can be dispelled or dismissed (right-clicking), and player buffs usually have a timer. Fel Armor has both a timer, and can be dispelled.
For the sake of arguement, Demonic Knowledge and Master Demonologist might be considered unbuffed, because they can not be dismissed.

I usually say Fel Armor can be on, as well as any Demonology buffs.

Yes it can technically be dispelled, but the real question is about stacking and availability. Fel Armor has 0 Cooldown, has no stacking issues other than with Demon Armor, and is no heavy burden to keep up - as others have said it is essentially a Perma-Buff. So it may be a "buff" but when people say "have 800 Spell unbuffed" they are working under these *predefined* semantical conditions, and not syntactical definitions.

but they can be removed through the removal of the pet. the fact of the matter is, unbuffed 99% of always refers to including self buffs. yeah they can be dispeled and are on timers. but short of me going after for over 30 minutes, i'll have felarmour, detect invis and underwater breathing on me at all time. heck i'll also have a demonic sac on for all those times too as long as i'm outside a main city. these are effectively 'perminant self buffs', they're good enough to be counted as just simply part of our base stats.

p.s. i kinda guess banatu :)
#13REDACTED, Posted: Apr 13 2008 at 9:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These people are wrong. Unbuffed means unbuffed, the numbers it shows on your armory page, that is -not- including self buffs. These cats just wanna pretend they're better than they are. Fact is, though, the "requirements" for a warlock raiding aren't static, and even an undergeared warlock is going to outdamage a lot of the other better-geared dps.

i pvp enough and there aren't many classes that can / will remove it. for me it's the other way round, i've got it up 80-90% of the time, no issue. if you ever ask any about their stats they'll always respond with their selfbuffed stats because they are 'the norm' for them. buffed refers to a state beyond the normal. and anyways, pvp is big but i'm pretty certain pve is still a larger part of the game, in which case you'll always have your buffs up.

I inlcude self buffs. When someone asks me my unbuffed spell damage, I usually say "+1201, with about 250 of that from fel armor and talents." That way I've covered it no matter which way they define 'unbuffed'.
