0/0/61 for pve/pvp?Follow

#1 Apr 10 2008 at 4:10 PM Rating: Decent
hi all, just switched from long time 10/48/3. never leveled as frost, never really played it. i am going to have a crack, but considering i am not doing arena's but will be doing bg's and pve (not raiding, only quests and 5 mans), and although imp CS is great, i dont really need it. so i was thinking maybe 61 frost.

my question is, i know it is good for survivability and not bad for dps, but what is other peoples experience around this build? any input or feedback would be awesome. just wondering if it is worth the move away from 17/0/44 for the ability to have more frost pve skills....

thanks

If you are going to arena the imp CS is a huge bonus, but not entirely necessary. I use 17/0/44 and love it, but I know lots of mages who take 0/0/61 or 2/0/59 and do very well with it. I like the 2 points in arcane personally for arcane subtlety, but again, not a deal breaker.

Winter's Chill is a great for PvE situations, also nice in PvP, but since fights don't last as long in PvP I would rather work toward imp CS. It really comes down to preference and what you want to do more PvP or PvE, try out the different cookie cutter specs and try em out.

I tried the 0/0/61 and 2/0/59 and just didn't like it as much as my 17/0/44. They were good, but I really like the imp CS too much right now to do with out it in PvP, but that is my focus with my build, I always respec for raids.

Yes, good advice but just wanted to point out that you can also try a 0/12/49 build or take-off of it for burning soul and impact. It just adds a little more utility, and doesn't hurt pve too much.

yeh had not thought of that, thanks :))

I have problems trying to figure out what build i want to make end-game since I want to do similar stuff that you are going to do....i have personally been looking at a 10/0/51 build for clearcasting which is probably more important for pve or 2/0/59 build for arcane subtlety.....The problem i'm having is if winter's chill is worth it or not....And about imp. cs i know its awesome but not sure if i want to put points in arcane when they could be in frost.

For PvE Winter's Chill is definately worth it, especially if you are in a raid with someone who is 40/0/21 who will benefit from the increase in crit chance as well as you. If you are putting 50+ points into frost I would definitely not overlook it. For PvP it is pretty meh IMO, but some people like it.

Agreed. For PvE raids, Winter's Chill is always worth it. Also kinda useful on 5 man bosses.

In PvP, the best thing about it is when it makes someone waste a cleanse on that instead of a frost nova(meaning another shatter crit).

yup thats only reason i have it, when i fight pallies its one of the few things that lets me win. I just constantly spam ice lance to keep it up so when frost nova is up its gonna be a while before they get through all that.
