When to go to OutlandFollow

Hey, I've been checking around some FAQs and other info here and at WowWiki but I haven't been able to find an answer.

My Feral Druid is approaching 58 and getting ready for Outland, but I'd like to know if going there at 58 is a good idea. I know some classes have trouble jumping to Outland at 58 and people recommend waiting until lvl 60. Are Ferals one of those classes?

I had no trouble in Outland at 58 on my feral druid. I'd definitely recommend going there as soon as possible, unless you have some particular reason for wanting to stick around in Azeroth.

My humble opinion: I say go to outland at 58, get that sweet outland gear, maybe some ramps gear too and go pvp at 59. It'll be your last chance to own in BGs before you hit 70 and you have to face this WTF super geared dudes that you can't even see their heads 'cause their shoulders are so big and they never die. thats if you are down with pvp, like me. otherwise I still think you should go outlands at 58, even if it's just grinding and doing instances 'till 60, and then start questing.

I wrapped up a few quests in Winterspring, but I hit Outland at 58 also. Kitty form will take some serious damage per fight (especially those darn overpowered hellboars there), but I did not die once to them. Honestly, I used bear form a lot... on the humanoids I was taking on 2-3 at a time, with very little downtime, but those boars enrage and will drain your HP... just be prepared for them, they're rough.

I'd say get there asap. I've gone at 58 on all 3 of my toons. My hunter was by far the easiest, warrior the roughest, druid was just right XD Once you start getting Outland greens it makes a world of difference in soloing. You'll notice a jump after each quest item you get. I've also looked for 'of the bandit' stuff in the AH. Some I replaced fast, others I have not.

Just heal after every fight, get ready to drink a lot, but it's more than worth it to step thru that portal ASAP.

Haha, made me laugh because it is so true! I have gone to Outland at 58 on all my toons. I helped 2 druid buddies who went there at 58, they had no problem. Some of the outland group quests can be rough but, no ****! Its outland. you should do fine there.

I went to Outlands on my other two toons at 58, but on my druid I got tired of waiting and had a friend port me to Shat at 57. Of course I couldn't get any quests yet, but the xp is almost doubled from what you get for the same level mobs in Azeroth so I just went farming. I'm about 30% of the way through towards level 58 at the moment and it only took me about 20 minutes to do that. If you just make a loop killing hellboars, then the humanoids and back through, you only need 200ish kills to level to 58 even without a rested bonus. The drops/money/xp off these mobs end up being more beneficial to you anyway. Either way I'd hit OL at 57 or 58 every time. (although Argent Dawn rep might be more important with the release of WotLK)

Definitely go at 58. I've also heard other classes complain about it being too hard at that level but I had the opposite experience with my druid. 58-60 were the fastest two levels I had since 10. A feral druid is really well suited for Hellfire because even though you'll pull lots of happy boar aggro, you're well equipped for multiple mobs. The more come at you, the faster you level.

If you've got old world stuff you want to finish, just put it off a tiny bit - go do the first few quests in Hellfire, get your shiny new eq, then go back and kick some butt.

When you get to 58 and the portal gives you the green light, GO! It's a beautiful new world through that vortex... lots more money, quest gear, quests... everything. Do it!

i went to Outland at 57. Grinded my way to 58, then started the quests. Even at 57, near Thrallmar or Honor Hold, you wont have difficulties killing stuff. Just pay attention to not get overwhelmed, but again, you wont have any problem!

If you take your time, do all your quests, do some instances, you can even leave Netherstorm and Shadowmoon valley untouched to quest at 70 and get money instead of experience!

Went to OL just after dinging 58. Died a lot at first because I was still playing old-world style on my then-undergeared feral, ie, it's not a real fight unless you take three mobs at once. If I'd taken one or two at a time it wouldn't have been such an issue, and once I finished a few quests and geared up it became much easier. (Properly-equipped ferals are still OP in OL.) Was a monster in the BGs after getting my Outland gear and am close to dinging 70 with three zones still totally unexplored. It's all good going there at 58.

I also went directly at 58 afew days ago, sure was alittle tougher mobs than Azeroth, but what with some of the very first quest rewards looking like this:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29911
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29939
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28051

Your vital stats as Feral druid increase insanely fast, and then it's just downhill baby :) luv OL so far.

Well like I mentioned a few posts up I hit OL at 57 and grinded to 58. Well since that day I'm now a level 61 feral and if you wanna armory me go ahead, check the sig. I'm sitting at almost or more than twice every stat that I was going for previously and I've tanked Ramps successfully 5 or 6 times.

Even ran Blood Furnace at 60 as DPS.

The best part is that when I was grinding for 58, I ended up getting the Gloves of Ferocity to drop off a random orc. How sweet it was when I hit 60. If you aren't going to OL at 57-58, you're missing the bus.

(HIJACK!!!)
Frootloope will be 54 by the end of the night and so i'm stealing this thread. I'm VERY willing to respec resto at 58 if it will help getting groups, but rep grind has always been an issue for my play style.

The question: Should one grind rep in Ramps and BF till honored then start questing if the goal is 3 items from Revered Honor Hold rep?
The problem: Pre-BC gear leaves me with sub-par equipment to tank OR heal at 58.
My guess: Stay feral till 65ish (i plan on going resto at 70 anyway), while doing a mix of quests and 5-man grouping. There's nothing good from HH at Exalted for my goals anyway.

Thanks for any input!

I stayed Feral and I haven't had any problems finding a group for the instances.

What I did was grind until I was 58, then I took the initial quests. If they quest/chain didn't end in a piece of upgrade armor/weapon, then I didn't do it. I saved the gold quests for later. I went through and did about 10 quests that gave me upgrades and at that point I was 59 and able to run Ramps.

I tanked ramps 5 times, dps'd it twice and then respec'd and healed it once just to be a showoff.

By that point I had hit honored with HH and so I started questing again. There really isn't much that HH has to offer besides some recipes, but there is some OK gear there at 70 depending on your spec.

Either way, once you get to honored, the best thing to do is finish all the quests and hit Zangar and start working on that CE rep for Earthwarden(if you're gonna go feral ever) and then come back to Shattered Halls when you hit 68ish to finish off your rep for HH.

Or you could just go resto and finish the quests slower but also have no problem finding an instance. Either way. I'm going the Feral route, but I'm saving every Resto quest reward that is an upgrade and picking up pieces for both sets along the way so I can heal the occasional run that is a couple levels below me for practice.

Well I went to outlands at lvl 56.

Personally, I couldn't handle being in wintersprings any longer and I had a mage portal me to shatt. Then I had to ride all the way to thrallmar (first time in outlands and didn't know i need the FP of falcon watch to get between the two cities, lamez)

So I set my hearth to thrallmar and was eager to begin my outlands exp.... then I got *** pawned by a hellboar.

Then I found a little niche just east of the town, where those demons and fel reaver looking mobs roam. To say the least my lvl 56 feral ate those little devils for breakfast. Plus I got mad green and blue drops that I equipped the moment I dinged 58(the blue was lvl 60, but insanly good).

True you cant get quests there until you're 58, but grinding at that little spot I made an insane amount of exp. I think it was over 1k per kill, along with the feral druids praised no down-time I made 58 in no time at all.

So yeah, it's possible to go there earlier than 58, and just go to that spot I mentioned and you will glide up the level charts until you're 58 and able to start the quests.

GOGOGO! BUT...

I jumped over at 58 and had no probs, and I'm a Shaman for Xmas sake! Gear there sucks for me, I'm an enhance, but within my first few drops (which come very often) I decided that as soon as I cap 70 I'm going back to my (20) Druid to get him there as soon as possible. There's Druid gold in them there hills. It's almost like the first few areas of Outlands were designed specifically with the Druid or Pally in mind.

A bit of advice though so you don't end up kicking yourself (and if you choose not to follow it you will kick yourself):

WITHOUT A DOUBT, ABSOLUTELY, NO QUESTION - If you have mining, skinning or flower-picking, make sure its at (or grind it to) 300. As soon as you hit Honor Hold you can train up and there is a small fortune to be made in collection, especially on the early quests.
For example, you can mine kills (eg, you can mine 'clefthoof' kill's (a mob), but it requires a minimum of 300 mining (and you'll have a 'grind' quest to kill 30 clefthoof, followed by a quest to kill 30 more)). Plus mining here yields things like 'Mote of Earth' and 'Mote of Air'.

Fel-weed and other top herbs lie about the place (300 min) and just about every kill can be skinned (300 min).

At 66 I went back to Azor to up my mining from 250 to 300. I made 80g in the process. Had I specc'd up pre-outland I would have made easily over 500g at this point.

The OP's question has been answered ad nauseum, but I just ventured to HFP last night for the first time on my feral so I'm all pumped up and want to share.

At 58 and rested, was killing 58/59 mobs for almost 1100xp each. That's a huge jump from Azeroth. Even pulled a 62/63 (can't remember exactly, but the dude was red to me) before realizing his level and took him down no problem. Most of the pulls for the first couple quests end up pulling two mobs, but it's really not an issue and I wasn't even popping out to Rejuve mid-fight. Just watch that wandering dude on his wolf mount and the occasional elites Blizzard decided to sprinkle in amongst the normals.

The first couple quest rewards are amazing. Stat-wise almost double what I was wearing from Azeroth (including the class quest reward).

In short, go forth and prosper. Clear out some space on your q-log and head to HFP at 58. I kept some plaguelands quests just b/c I like the zone, but the likelihood that I ever do them is slim to none.

Very nice - i cannot wait to get there... intrigued by what is above I must no figure out they way to OL... i thought you couldn't get there before 58... but if I can go at 56 hellz yeah I am there. At the least I have plenty of 58-60 friends I can group with to level to questability (it's a new word I just made it up ;) )

If for no other reasons as I approach 58 (this week hopefully) I will be heading to outlands for the gear.

All of the 70s in my guild tell me the basic quest reward or green drop is better than any Epic pre-expansion gear. I don't spend time worrying about gear as I figure if I am leveling fast enough, I will outgrow it soon enough. But it would be nice to have some gear as I have seen the grind slows drastically from 60-70. The gear and some friends to help with the 60-70 grind.

You can't walk through the dark portal til 58, I believe, but you can get a portal to Shatt anytime.

Through my research I learned you can get a portal from a mage (I was told by a friend the mage gets it at 70) or a Warlock can summon you.

Lvl 57 feral druid hearthed to Shatt and took the FP to Honor Hold:

the lvl 60 boars just south of HH were my initial targets, but if i stayed in cat the whole fight, I HAD to heal afterwards from 10% to 100% each time.

Ran East to the Valley of Bones and started grinding on the Bonestrip Buzzards and other boars (both mobs were 58-59), getting ~550 xp/kill with NO problems as long as i fought 1v1, which was very easy to do. Maybe once every 10 pulls i had to Faerie Fire or Caster pull a buzzard, but otherwise it was easy xp.

This grind isn't insanely fast, but it's not disgustingly slow either :D I just want to get to 58 and finish the chain for the Ramparts/Blood Furnace quests!!!

mages get portal to shat at 65
when i hit 58, dropped all old world quests, and only ever come back for AH
#23 Apr 28 2008 at 5:07 PM Rating: Good
Outlands is easy - all those nasty boars killing you? Go at 55 and take a friend with you!

1 other party member will make those mobs a piece of cake! I, like most of us tend to forget this is a multiplater game. I ususally only party for instances or tough group quests, but get in a decent group for leveling and you will fly!
