So my guild has finally cleared to Illidan. Suprisingly enough we got 6 bosses down the first night and had a few attempts at Illidan last night. Basically we get stuck at Phase 2. What should the Melee do? For the first few attempts tonight they want us to not DPS just so we don't get squashed and so the tanks can figure out how they wanna tank the fire elementals.
For the few that have done Illidan as DPS, do you have any tips? (I have read the strats and watched the vids, but thought I'd ask some of you guys)

Be very, very, very aware of what the tanks are doing. Living is more important than cranking out a bit more damage.
With that said, unless the tanks are actively trying to kill you (see: pointing the elemental towards the grate) surviving shouldn't be too hard. Also keep in mind that some of the beams can clip the edge of the grate, so you may have to retreat towards the center.

They're tanking around the edges of the grate, like most EJ posters suggest. They don't face them toward the raid, but I think they have to be a little more cautious of the Eyebeam. I'm sure I'll have a little more information after tonights raid as we'll be visiting Illidan again for a full night of attempts.
I think we'll go with a four group strategy as well. That seems to work for people on EJ, so we'll give it a shot.
