Full Arcane cant be bad for pvp......or can it?Follow

#1 Apr 10 2008 at 11:41 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, recently i have tried deep frost for pvp and loved it,now i am arcane frost and also like it. But i just want to try deep arcane for once, slow seems VERY good for pvp, i can say its better than spamming a frost bolt, 50% snare for 15 secs and reduces casting time by 50% and between melee attacks. But i have seen many vids on youtube on full arcane mage pvp, and everyone either says the vid is good, or they say arcane sucks for pvp, try *fire* or *frost*. Isnt there any way arcane mages can have a "role" in pvp, topped with some nice gear as well?

a full arcane mage usually doesnt have slow, and instead gets full mind mastery, has pyroblast and blast wave (or if you do want it blast wave can be substituted for slow) and are in PvE gear, not PvP, like spellstrike, spellfire, and such.

But about the "role" basically, every 3 minutes you completely destroy someone, and other than that you spam AM in the back lines trying not to get targeted.

If you have good gear (e.g. 1100 spell damage or more) and some specific trinkets (TLC) and an MSD, then you can PvP deep arcane and have a very good time. Yes, slow is very fun, but honestly, AM is your bread and butter. You need to be able to take that rogue out with slow -> AM before he kills you. You have a lot fewer defenses as arcane, but it's what I do and I like it. Granted, I have decent gear and a playstyle that fits into a very specific cookie cutter.

It depends what cooldowns they've already used. ;-) But for the most part, I run away from rogues if possible. You can spam slow on them and it helps greatly in your efforts to get away. Ice block if you have crippling poison on you.

i PvP with full arcane but have 8 into fire for the chance to stun and the reduced cool down on fire blast
i put the talent point into slow and LOVE IT
AM is what makes you amazing in pvp and do ungodly dmg to everyone
i can usually lead the dmg meters easy and i'm only in 2 piece spell fire and 2 piece gladiators
i get crap talk from other players all the time about arcane not being useful in PvP but everyone who premades with me knows what i'm talking about
but basically you just gotta try it out and see what works best for you
i've tried them all and i just think arcane fits me best
all specs are amazing for a mage so it doesn't really matter

and as for the Cloak of Skill
rogues usually only pop it when they are EXTREMELY low on health
so i just pop fire blast AE along with CoC blink out and try again until one of them hits and takes him out or just out last the Cloak and one shot him
ice lance works as well but not as much

I went deep arcane for a while with points in impact. I found I did better mixing my PvE gear with my PvP gear. Had 1300 dmg unbuffed and with Empowered AM I hit like a truck. This was for BGs only and would never try it in arena save maybe5s. And only lower raited teams. Any team worth anything will see a mage standing back and starting to AM spam and take them out asap.

I've done both.... BGs are a killer blast for (arcane or otherwise) mages (many vs many is mage heaven)... arena is not so good for (arcane or otherwise) mages, but I'd go with deep arcane or 17/0/44 for arena.

I never realized that the prefix/suffixes to names are just in the account page, so I was testing out a few. Dread Lord seemed a bit too Warlock-y and I wanted it to keep my name at the front (so that people don't call me "one and only" or whatever)

Ok thanks for the info guys, im going to respec today and see how it goes... Arcane seems pretty ownage in pvp IMO, especially against melee classes, and god damn pallys :S

I also have around 1030 spell damage in pvp gear, and around 1190 in pve, so i really want to give it try XD

I could randomly call you Baron for no reason, if you'd like.

Yes, I love my deep/full arcane spec for BGs, but I've had great fun in BGs as full on pyromaniac spec, too. BGs allow mages to be mages. Arenas, I think, are very hard for mages, even with the most feasible frost spec -- fighting in a small box while on the move isn't really the signature ability of the class, although it can be done, with considerable difficulty and adjustment.

Personally, I prefer deep frost to arcane in BGs. However, when it comes to arena the arcane/fire spec is by far my favorite. I team up with a enhancment shaman on my 2v2 team and sheep + all that burst damage usually allows us to drop one of their players quickly, making quick work out of the second due to our 2v1 advantage. I will add that mana-wise, arcane is the shizz and rarely do I run out of mana.

The problem with POM Pyro in arena is resilience. You don't crit for as much as often. I hate POM Pyros that hit for 2K. ;-)

I agree it is disappointing when your PoM pyro doesn't crit, but you should be waiting for the clearcast proc to bump up your crit chance 30%. Then if you trinket + AP + PoM Pyro, it will more then compensate for any amount of resilience your target has. Even if they have 15%-20% damage reduction for crits, he is still going to get hit for 5.6k + 40%. Also, deep arcane is good for taking care of those pesky pillar dancers, and makes resto Druids much easier.
