Frost PVP Build - 17/0/44 and your preferencesFollow

What are your preferences?

Obviously you have the 17 in Arcane for the Improved Counterspell for fights against casters - does this work against a Hunter's Aimed Shot btw? But where do you like your other points? Arcane Fortitude sounds good in theory but isn't really up to much imo. Arcane Impact - isn't much use for me as I rarely use that spell now I'm Frost. Magic Absorption seems like the best choice to me, what do you guys like?

And then the Frost Tree. Don't suppose anyone bothers with Frost Channeling although I'm really missing this one and finding I'm running out of mana a lot quicker even with Clearcasting. Anybody use Artic Winds? Could be very useful against Rogues and Warriors in Arena battles but I can't figure out which points to sacrifice for it.

Feel free to link builds and comment...

That's the build I'm using as of now. It's pretty much all the D and the O I can mix together sacrificing mana and arctic reach. I just picked up 3 new teams last week and so far not doing that bad (cept in 5s, I just don't think the combo is gonna work out). I can see winters chill being a little better option then emp frostbolt in 2s. You don't have near the time to get off alot of FBs in that bracket. But in 3s and 5s I dunno about chill.

But if you wanted to go a more offence like spec then you could drop winds and go for chill instead.

I'd like to see what other people are doing though. More ideas are always great.

^Thats my build, personally i take imp AM for 2 reasons 1. i havent respecced since the IV changes 2. if i have IV down i can still cast against hunters if i need to lol

But into frost i take everything there to try and max out frost's damage, and i geuss if i had a problem with melee's i would put into arctic winds instead of winters chill, but really only ss rogues is what i have trouble with and if we are equally geared i have a slight chance at winning so i dont find the 5% to be too life-changing. Also adding i see several people who dont get permafrost, and i say if you have 3 points why not make your kiting better?

I use nearly the same thing loopie uses, with a couple of points in different places.

I like the lowered chance of resists on sheep and CS, and I don't feel I need a 100% chance to stack the debuff, besides that, it's the same.

Mana's fine as long as you don't use high rank coc without clearcast procs.

It's a fine spec, and it's served me very well at any rating.

IMO Frost pvp is still a very viable descision for any mage;
NOT becuase its the "in" thing.

I've Spec'd all trees multiple times.

I still don't think that 880 bonus damage is enough
(880 full frost 22% base crit 73 hit, 70 pen with "pvp" gear) Never out of the top 5 KB, HK, Dam
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Draka&n=Lardcoma
i'm my bag also Scryers Blood gem, and Airman's Ribbon of Gallantry

working towards, The Lightning Capacitor for shatter crits

17/0/44 arcane would be for me, tho not as good IMO

hunter is gunna shoot the shield off anyway or it gets dispelled/stole by another class, put the pts elsewhere.

Imp counter macro'd with Spell steal ruins caster Bgs I love it, but hate it when i don't have the talents spent right.

never noticed it work on hunters tho i'm too busy being in thier face with burst dam to care. you stop to cast you're dead already.

Big Red lasts 18 seconds. its a joke if you play it right,

spell rotation is paramount. this comes with Xp in pvp/arena

Imp counter + spellsteal, Nova, lance, fireblast, Water Ele + iceblock "attack" hunter then wait for CDs, finish the fight.

10/0/51 best all around frost build with mana i've found if you want to be alive to finish the fight. ive used this raid /AV. i<3 this build
http://wowhead.com/?talent=of0VZZVAGckfxsbqt

winters chill add'ed for raid pts taken from coc

artic winds =5% dam and miss pretty solid
warriors and rogues should be kited and bursted.

yes you lose to many frost toys for a imp counter.
Frost Channeling = 15% guarenteed mana reduction> than 10% chance tho both is nice

2/0/59 AV versility against 2.4 turtles
http://wowhead.com/?talent=obZZViGIsfxswqt

all the frost toys; imp blizz + perm frost AOE support at the gate near drek,
rank 1 frostbolt kiting rogues and wars

not great on mana but you'll rez full anyway

41/0/20 3 minute frostbolt to the dome for wsg( i crit for 5600 with pom combo)
http://wowhead.com/?talent=of0E00fdthzioZVVr0o0x

yup you will die but we already know that right?

fire tree omitted due to lengthy CDs and zero survivability from what i've seen/ played.

Timbal's Focusing Crystal for impact and ignite fire combo = nice

Sorry, i solod a fire mage and a ret pally in arena twice last week after my partner got killed and i was poly'd.

It boils down to what marks are you trying to get? know the other classes weaknesses, spec for it.

Just remember to /flirt with the dead.

disclaimer: this is not all encompasing by any means

This has been my designated build for arenas for quite some time now. The thing I have against winter's chill is that I dont think that mages should feel obligated to keep it an opponent during an arena match. Why? Because you wont be chain casting in arenas. Also, I feel that shatter alone is enough with the crits, not to mention imp. frostbolt. But yes, without a great deal of +spell crit, it's nice to have winter's chill. If water elementals would be able to apply winter's chill though, it'd be an all out winner.

Arctic winds is a pretty great talent, but without any other talent or spell and whatnot that decreases our chances of being hit by physical dmg, it's really just useless as the 6% from piercing ice simply tops the dmg increment and the cd decrease of icebarrier and such from ice floes (which they should def. change to also include icy veins) would fill the gap of 5% chance to avoid.

Magic attunement is great especially when you arent in a group where a healer is involved in keeping heals on you. Like in 2v2 groups, it's nice to keep yourself up for awhile and all the while having a buff which will make the sacrifice for dispells.

Now, I rarely use arcane blast or arcane explosion in PVP and pretty much never in arenas, so arcane impact is a nono, and arcane fortitude is really just a filler. Permafrost is quite important as a frost mage's job is to outlast the opposing teams's DPS. Shatter's burst dmg with icelance gives just that. However, CoC is nice too, incase you want to slow the opponent and with permafrost, even better.

The rest? Arcane focus is great incase you're afraid that your CS may get resisted. Arctic reach is pretty much necessary. And water elem? yeah...

I love your build Wwcool. With Magic attunement + silence, casters will have a hard time killing you. Only down side is the -dps, but with the extra defence it should be np.
