I've started running my warlock alt through Kara, and I was wondering about the felguard raiding spec. Usually I see 6/44/11. I was wonding why you take 5/5 Imp Corruption instead of 0/44/17 where you get Devastation and Destructive Reach.

1/44/16 is the pure raid demo spec. gets Corruption close enough to the global cooldown.

6/44/11 works nearly as well though, just shy a few% crit is all. Either will work and the second can pvp well.

here is another post explaining a bit more that difference, and here a link to the felguard raiding post at the warlocks den.

Just as a small footnote, I got last week the Void Star Talisman.... as soon as I manage to grab a second T5 piece, I'll give it a try to raid with the felguard.

For the 1/44/16 build (and considering that my warlock is in Kara where 30+ yards on prince is important), is Shadowburn better than Destructive Reach for PvE?

Also, I remember reading a post by Jenova that after a certain point, it's better DPS to drop either Corruption or Immolate and just spam SBs. Is this just for 0/21/40 with Ruin and the other talents to boost the dpsc of Immolate?

For reference, my warlock has about 185 spell hit, 18% tooltip crit, and 990ish shadow damage.

The only build that has the scaling on SB but not other spells is 0/21/40, due to Shadow and Flame boosting the coefficient. In a demo build both Immolate and Corruption are worth casting.

In a pure 1/44/16 build I would go 1 point into Destructive Reach over shadowburn. The spell isn't useful from a dps standpoint and the extra 3 yards, as you've said, can be a life-saver in certain situations.

Edited: Because taking =/= casting

Increased spell range seems to be more helpful in PVP situations than raiding. Chances are, you wont be using Fear as crowd control, so you wont need the extra range to keep casting it; and the usual maximum spell distance has been good enough for me.
I do agree that when fighting Prince, increased spell range is one of those situational benefits.
