Hi there,

From a friend i've heard that feral tanks should aim for 5% expertise. My question is now if warrior tanks have a certain amount of % expertise they need to aim for also.
Or is it like, the more the merrier?

Cheers

Taken from the protection warrior guide on the Elitist jerks Forums:
Quote:
With a base of 5.6% chance to be dodged against a boss, once a player achieves 22.4 weapon expertise they should no longer be able to be dodged. However, expertise is rounded down, partial amounts of expertise do nothing. Therefore, you need 23 expertise or 91 expertise rating to no longer be dodged. Based on personal experience, expertise is huge in reducing damage taken, and increasing threat. It is highly recommended you heavily stack expertise rating.

Aye, thank you very much! Rate up.

Two things;

For one, the current thinking on boss dodge chance is that it's somewhere between 6.25 and 6.5%. This would make the Expertise cap 25 or 26, which translates into 99 Rating or 103 Rating.

Secondly, bosses also have huge a huge parry chance - even past the dodge cap (softcap), it will reduce parries... which makes it, at worst, better than +hit up until about 11%.

I've been hearing that there's a '1%' hardcap for dodges. However, that was also believed to be true for miss rates for the longest time even thought it wasn't.

My rogues is at 6.75% dodge mitigation right now. I can deal with overcapping by .25%... but overcapping by 1% is a bit much.

I have a hard time believing the cap is at 5.6%... since if it is true, all you need (as a rogue and warrior) is 2 talent points and a Shard of Contempt to be 'undodgeable'.

That's always been true for casters, and never true for melee though. It's persistant, but there's no logic behind it.

I can tell you that at 6.25% I have yet to see a dodge looking over my WWSes; the only time I did was on Shahraz, when I swapped out my T6 (Expertise) belt for a SR one.

What are you using to attain 6.25%?

I got 10 from talent (2.25), 11 from Shard of Contempt (2.50) and 6 from the belt of one-hundred deaths (1.5%). Baring going back to Karazhan and hunting Moroes' glove, I'm a bit at a lost as to what I could get to replace the belt and lower my expertise so I'm not that overcapped.

I'm trying to convince some of my rogue guild member that getting some Expertise is good, even if it means losing hits, so the more I actually know about it, the easier it'll be to convince them.

If you want to drop by our melee forum, feel free ;p

Warriors aren't the same as Rogues. Our talent only gives us -2% Dodge instead of 10 Expertise (which, incidentally, would be 2.5%... not 2.25%).

Onslaught Belt: 6 Expertise (1.5)
Shard of Contempt: 11 Expertise (2.75)
Talent: -2% Dodge - Effectively 8 Expertise (2.0)

Total: 25 Expertise (6.25%)

You're at 2.5 (Talent) + 2.75 (Shard) + Bo100D (1.5) or 6.75. You could use the gloves off Al'ar instead of the Belt of 100 Deaths, but I don't know what gear quality you'd be replacing in these slots.

T5 gloves, which have a fair amount of hit and complete my T5 set bonus.

While I'm aware that T5 isn't that great and off-set piece (Chest from karathress, pants from kael, etc) actually make for a better 'set', you don't get to pick what boss drops.

You do in magical faerie land!

Anyway... with the amount of Expertise you have, you may want to look into the new badge belt (or an alternative trinket, I suppose, but the Shard is pretty obscene). At the moment, the Belt of 100 Deaths counts as .8% Crit, -1% Dodge, 130 AP and .25% Hit with the way you have it gemmed. The new belt would be 1.08% Crit, 122 AP and 1.46% Hit.

In other words; 1% Dodge and 8 AP vs. .28% Crit and 1.21% Hit. It's a bit of a tossup, especially if you would actually use the badges.
