Mask of Penance alternativeFollow

I've recently come back to my Holy Paly after a few months of alt-itis. I'm doing my best to reach the pre-kara benchmarks as shown in the sticky...wearing any ol' piece of junk which gave me the necessary stats. I've gotten my crit and mp/5 to the minimum unbuffed benchmark levels. But my +heal is still low.

I recently picked up a couple of the Crusader's Ornamented pieces since they were cheap upgrades to the +heal cloth I was wearing. They also have some spell crit which is a bonus.

My question:

I've been trying for http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=27790;source=live

But I see that http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=35404;source=live has the potential to provide more +heal if gemmed properly.

I know it's a PvP piece and offers no mp/5, but is it an acceptable alternative for the Mask of Penance if I make up the mp/5 elsewhere? I don't want to drop in an expensive +heal metagem if I really should be waiting for the Mask.

Sure, if you can get the stats elsewhere, and don't want to farm Mech for the helm then go for it.

Here is my armory if needed. Feel free to comment on anything. I know my bracers suck. I haven't found any +heal bracers to replace them yet...and I haven't convinced myself that 1000g for the blessed bracers is a bargain. I have also avoided any expensive enchants and gems since I am still gearing up. Don't want to invest in pieces that are destined for replacement.

You can also try for Helm of Sanctification from MrT. That is another nice alternative if you don't want to grind PvP.

For bracers - if you have a hard time finding anything, Vindicator's Ornamented Bracer are a nice alternative. It's an easy PvP to get. Only 20 WSG and about 12k honor.

These are just suggestions. As you know, there are a million ways to go...

EDIT - I didn't see you armory at first. One other thing - go to AH and buy Crystal Pulse Shield and Essence Focuser. Usually goes for about 50g each. Easy upgrades.

You don't have to grind PvP for the Crusader's Ornamented Headguard, you can buy that off the rep vendors for like 10g.

Fixed. I think you were thinking Righteous.

Thanks all. Sounds like I have a plan since the mask refuses to drop for me in SV.

I debated the Crystal Pulse Shield last night. I ended up sticking with the one I have so as not to drop below the 15% spell crit threshhold. But I think since my recent upgrades had some spell crit I won't drop anymore. I'll look for it tonight...although it is running 150-200g on Lightbringer. I'll also grab that mace..which I saw for about 55g last night.

When it comes to enchants and high-end gems:
-I'm going to purchase the +healing metagem for the helm.
-Will I have the Cystal Pulse shield long enough to put a quality chant on it?
-Any of my other equipment justify decent chants?

Basically I don't want to waste money on good chants only to replace the item. Damn alts are an expensive habit. :-)

OK, let's see if I can respond properly...

Here's what I did - make a list of stuff you are trying to get for pre-Kara. Once you get the stuff you plan to raid with, enchant them. If you get lucky with a Kara drop on your first run...then consider yourself lucky. If you always wait until your next good drop for enchanting stuff, then you'll never enchant anything until T6.

One thing - I would replace the Khorium set ASAP. Their stats are not very condusive to healing. Great for solo, but not as good for healing. So, I wouldn't recommend putting any money into those.

To directly answer your questions:

1) Helm gem - go for it.
2) Shield enchant - trick to get mats for about 7g - go to Halaa when you faction owns it. Verify that vendor has Qty = 3 Avenging Blades in stock. Invite Enchanting friend to that location. Let them buy and DE the Avenging Blades (they are BoP, so enchanter has to buy them). It will supply mats for enchant, and then some. Let them keep extra mats as payment.
3) Your gloves, helm, and shoulders are probably ok. I'd enchant them. Then, focus on new chest, bracers, waist, legs, feet, trinkets, etc...

Hope that helps.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks YJMark.

Ah yeah... actually I was thinking of the boss in SV but I put him in mech where mechano lord is... cause they are kinda the same.

That's what happens when I post early in the morning.

Plus, just after mechano Lord in Mech, Vestia's Pauldrons of Inner Grace are a drop from the Cache. Nice pre-heroic healing shoulders.

I'd suggest you do a couple of SL runs and try to get the Breastplate of Many Graces off Vorpil. For your legs I'd suggest getting the Starcaller's Plated Legguards from the Dimensius quest in Netherstorm.

Yeah.. I'm like 2k from exalted, these things only dropped once and a Ret paladin grabbed them (his first run)

I stopped counting at run 30, and I've still never seen those drop. On the other hand, a guildy of mine got it the first time he ever ran SL...guess that ******* Vorpil just doesn't like us Jacky :"<

My mage disenchanted something like 15 of those on her quest for the sword off of Murmur. My paladin has never seen it drop.

Just run SLab until Revered, and you get your Lower City Prayerbook(s). If the breastplate doesn't drop, then don't worry about it. Keep an eye out for Harness of the Deep Currents that drops off Murmur. A nice alternative too.

Wow, YJMark, now I'm feeling even worse... All those weeks spent running SLab (nearly Exalted with LC at least!) and I never saw THAT chestpiece drop once either. Something is seriously wrong with that dungeon.

Now I'm even more grateful that Breastplate of the Lightbinder dropped from Illhoof on my first week in Kara or I'd be even more sullen and disgruntled about it.

It's strange that when I was gearing up my most recent tank, NOTHING but the Mask of Penance (and Breastplate of Many Graces in Shadow Labs) dropped. Over 40 runs for that bloody Devilshark Cape and EVERY TIME the non-dungeon set blue was the Mask of Penance.

as an alternative, you could get:

its mail, but its pretty great

Yeah. I've run Bot and SL probably about 40 times together. I'm 3k to exalted Sha'tar, and 5~ for Lower City. Shoulderguards of the Bold have dropped 0 times, righteous 0 times. Graces has dropped twice, two runs in a row...
