I see lots of defense/HP/armoretc requirements for Kara, but I was curious if there are any general requirements for tanking Heroic dungeons? I've got the Heavy Clefthoof set, SoNF, Stylin' Purple Hat, and misc. other quest/normal dungeon pieces bringing up my stats, but how far do I need to go to be ready for Heroics?

Also, are all Heroics created equal, or are there easy(ier) ones I can start on to wet my feet a little? I.E. can I go straight to Set. Halls to get my swift flight form, or should i practice somewhere else first?

They are definitely NOT created equal :)

Underbog or Slavepens are not a bad place to start.

SLABS, Shatt Halls, Mana Tombs, Old Hillsbrad are all hard.

Setthek Halls is fairly difficult, but if you take it carefully and pull right back then you shouldn't have too much trouble with a decent Kara ready group. The double pull of the guards at the start (Talon Guards I think they are called) is a nasty introduction to the instance though.

I would put the gear requirements about the same as Karazhan, but the skill requirement is considerably higher. In Karazhan, you can CC most of the mobs and have spare tanks, in heroics, you often have to tank multiple mobs, and things can get out of control quickly. You do get used to it though and the regular group I ususally run with often have to check we are on heroic after a few pulls :)

I would add bloodfurnace and ramparts to the easy list for introduction to heroics. Also mechanar isn't too bad. Sethekk halls can be a killer instance with low gear, since the duo ravenguards hit like a runaway train.

As to gear i would say a bit lower than kara requirements for the easy ones and about equal to kara for the medium ones. Some of them you should just plain stay away from (old hillsbrad heroic!)

Though I haven't been, I heard they nerfed OHB heroic almost as much as they nerfed Mag. If you're light on CC, Heroic BF can be a major pain, some of the mobs hit a bear tank (me) for 3k+ with 33k armor. Having 2 of these guys beating on you is a good way to end up back at the GY wondering if you were accidently tanking in your DPS gear. There's a couple pulls at the end where you have 2 demons to fight, so a warlock or a hunter is pretty much a must. Maybe 2 pallies alternating Turn Evil now that it affects demons.

Easiest 3 heroics are Slave Pens, Ramparts, and Mechanar, followed by Underbog and Bot (if you can stun the guys with the whirlwind). Heroic BM isn't bad if you get a good person on adds, and if they nerfed the pats in OHB it should be fairly easy. Shattered Halls is easy if you can get a raid-geared tankadin.

Heroics I wouldn't touch in a PuG: MgT, Arc. Anything else, I'd gear check everyone at the door before I zone in.

Just wanted to say thanks! You guys have been really helpful. I hadn't heard any of this info before - everyone I know is obsessed with 25-mans :)

Anyone obsessed with 25-mans should have been in all of the mentioned instances quite a few times, and should know what they are about. You don't get to end game content unless you gear up in heroic or someone basically boosts you through kara enough times to upgrade your gear from drops and badges.
