Shackle Undead for Moroes fightFollow

#1 Apr 06 2008 at 5:18 AM Rating: Decent
I was in Kara last night and we were fighting Moroes. I saw that my shackle was Breaking very easily and quite often. I have a macro made up for shackle but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions. I am holy spec with a 20/41/0 build. Thank you for your help.

Hopefully you are using a focus pane to help with shackles. In addition an addon like UberShackle will give you a countdown at certain points and warn when it breaks early.

One of Moroes' dinner guests, Lady Keira Berrybuck, has a cleanse spell which will release crowd controlled targets, so ensure she's kept in check.

I have heard that spell penetration helps in keeping the shackles longer.

I'm not going to say you're outright wrong with this, I'm a holy priest and don't stack Spell Penetration so perhaps someone else could clarify things.

However, my understanding with SP is that it effects resistance over the school of magic used. You can't lower a mobs chance to resists below its base resist value for that school and in any case no lower than 0. Shackle Undead is classes as Holy, now Holy doesn't have a resist school per se but all mobs will still have a base resist value, increased by level of each mob. Moroes' dinner guests are all level 70 I believe so they'll have nothing more than a base resist even if that is 0. Even if they were level 73 they'd still have a minimum base chance to resist each school of magic of 15 which Spell penetration can't reduce.

Spell penetration will only lower resistance to schools of magic over a mobs base resistance, as Holy has no resist school it's unlikely that any mob has a higher than base resistance to holy magic, therefore spell penetration will have no effect.

Spell hit on the other hand will reduce the chance that a spell will be resisted in the first or breaking early on it's periodic checks. If as I said the mobs are 70 then you have a 96% hit chance, you'd then require a Spell Hit Rating of 38 to be hit capped at 99%.

^- This.

Holy spec priests don't have any talents to reduce the chance of resist or "heartbeat" breaks for shadow spells like Shackle, nor do they stack spell hit for any reason at all. I mean, they're holy priests, they heal, what's the point. This is why, by and large, shadow priests and hunters are FAR preferred for CC on the Moroes fight than holy priests. But in a pinch a holy priest can shackle an add, you've just got to have your head on a swivel.

When shackling for Moroes, I will reshackle early and often. Typically, I'm assigned the last add, so I have to keep it shackled until they get to it, or possibly the entire fight.

Position yourself so the shackle has some distance from you (move if he's gotten close when reshackling). Keep the shackle in sight, and use Ubershackle so that you get an audio notification of the shackle breaking. If the mob gets close to you, fade before reshackling. Keybind fade and shackle to keys that you can hit quickly.

Sometimes when we are going to shackle a mob for the entire fight, we will have a hunter drop a freeze trap between me and the mob once they are done with the other adds. They keep renewing the trap as an extra safety precaution.

I think it's Dreuger (sp?), the Ret pally who dispels the CC. But if you're guild is worth its salt at all, this will be the mob that you're shackling.

Actually they're both classed as paladins, but he rarely uses his, she's more holy and regularly heals, cleanses and buffs her friends.
