I don't have time to look through the past couple pages, but you can definitely find a couple posts here stating the basics for Kara.

For strategies I tend to just go to www.bosskillers.com

150ish hit atleast.. capped would be great

40/21/0 and atleast 750-950 spell damage (before your specced 40/21/0)

deepfire if over 950 damage.

9k mana.

Assuming you have the hit talent for the school you're in:

Arcane: 76
Frost: 126
Fire: 164

well i only have around 500 spelldamage and i just done kara for the 1st time saturday and was in the top 3 most damage i am speced 10/48/3 for the clearcasting and fie AOEs. i only have about 8.2k mana and aroun 30% crit but i just hit satuday about a week ago so my armor isnt really that good. i dont have but 1 green the rest 67-70 blues and 2 glad gear. so if you have a good kara group you should do fine unless you hvea kara group that wants to speed run.

Arcane: 76
Frost: 126
Fire: 164

so is the cap 366 total?

cause darkhybrid says 150ish hit at least and refers to that not being the cap

I havent seen yet where it breaks down the hit rating for arc, fire, frost?

or is he refering to 150ish for the fire tree.
and if this is the case how do i tell what points I have where?
my hit rating says 71 now but it does not break it down by school

it isn't broken down by school. That is the total hit that you need to not be reistable (when properly talented) for that school of magic.

So if you are talented for arcane then you only need 76 hit to be capped, with full elemental precision you need 126 for frost or 164 for fire. Not total (300+)

Why are frost and fire hit caps different? I see no talents which further frost to-hit besides EP.

There's a bug with EP that makes it function like the pre-TBC version for frost spells. Commonly called "Ghost Hit" by theorycrafters, it gives an extra 3% hit to frost mages.

Because of this, I've seen some convincing arguments that show that deep frost is actually a much more damaging spec for T4 level instances than fire w/ Icy Veins.

Have any notes on that? I've seen people reference it post 2.3 and haven't seen anywhere that this has been stated to be fixed.

Edit: I went and looked at the 2.3 patch notes, and there was nothing listed there.

750-950 spell damage? This sounds really unreasonable for somebody starting kara. Hell, it would even be hard for many mages starting t5 content to break 950 unbuffed.

40-21 build should give you the most dps until you break the 700-750ish spell damage mark, where the 2-48-11 (10-48-3) build pulls ahead as far as raid damage.

Actually, iirc, 40-21 is good until 400-500 spell damage, then 33-28 arcane fire until you hit around 700, then cookie cutter raid spec after that.
