blast wave and empowered fireballFollow

Hey what's up everyone! I'm running my first mage (currently lvl 43) and had questions about where to put future talent points. He is mainly fire with some arcane thrown in.
What I wanted to know is what do other players think of blast wave and empowered fireball? How would you rate these talents for PvE play and lower lvl group instances? Seems like blast wave would be handy in places like Maraudon, etc; but is it worth putting a talent point into?
Thanks to all who answer! -Bloodwing; Trollbane server

I dont think its part of the cookie cutter build, but I love having it. In the end the fire raid spec has a couple points you can put anywhere. Many put it into improved fire blast. I like being able to run into the middle of a crowd, blast wave, dragons breath, and either AE till dead (me or them ;D), or frost nova blink out.
While leveling with a pally buddy, it seemed to help as its an instant cast, your likely to get at least a couple crits off of it if there are a bunch of mobs together, and if you are running for your life the daze effect helps a little.

It's hard to critique your spec and see how either of those spells would fit in without knowing what it is. But i can say that Blast Wave is great for almost anything. Can be mana heavy, but another instant cast to add into the mix can make a life or death difference. Blast Wave makes a great spell for PvP, PvE solo and and PvE instance/raid aoe.
Empowered Fireball is an must have talent for a raiding fire mage who has a strong base spell damage. For leveling though, i dont believe it to be very neccessary when there are stronger talents to get.

Yes on Blast wave, especialy for the 1 talent point expense.

No on Empowered Fireball, not needed while leveling, doesn't hurt to have but i believe talent points could be spent better other places.

It's 2 points (need pyro to unlock it) and pyroblast is not considered very important in raids (unless you need the burst damage from pom/pyro...but that's not a deep fire thing). However, in my plans I have a point in imp fire blast (brings it down to a rotation where I can do ball-ball-blast for high DPS) and then the 2 points in pyro/blast wave.

Imp fireball isn't as good while levelling due to low amount of +dmg gear. Although there is SOME now after patch 2.3, your +dmg doesnt really get that high until outlands, and it's end-game where you'll really get gear. All three of the empowered talents (missiles, fireball, frostbolt) are the more gear-dependent talents. With no +damage, you will get no benefit even if it was +6500% to the damage coefficient.

That does kind of depend on how you gear yourself. My two caster alts that are upper 40's/low 50's (one warlock, one mage) are both sitting around 200-250dmg, which is pretty significant. While I may not get incredible use from the talents at the moment, they're better than other alternatives (Playing with Fire or Incineration), and will get more and more useful as I break 58 and hit Outlands.

I did mention that it was better in outlands, but a majority of players aren't going to have very high spell damage pre-OL.

Echoing most of the posts, if you're a 43 fire mage, blastwave is a must-have if you pvp and it's a very useful aoe instant in pve at your level. I'd definitely pick it up. Empowered fireball, as everyone says above, is most useful later, in OL.
