holy crap I just had an apifanyFollow

#1 Apr 03 2008 at 7:58 PM Rating: Decent
Yes I have probably spelt the title wrong but I think I may have solved two HUGE problems for paladins at once in one amazing move that will make ret have more utility in raids AND give us more options for strikes.

DIVINE REAVER: Applies the active seal but in a backwards way to judgements

Here let me show you what I mean

You use this while you have SoL active, what happens is you put a debuff on the target that works the same way as JoL except now it is a chance on hit to DO extra damage to the target.

I do not want to come off of this as an idiot but I think that this would make the game a bit more exciting for Ret and help us in general also others will finally have a reason to bring along Tony that Ret paladin your guild wont let go to the Black Temple even though he is geared enough to go.

Please try not to kill me for this one I am pitching this out there so if you have revisions you have to this to make it better I am all ears.

so... reavering Rightousness would heal the enemy.. or hurt me?
reavering SoWisdom... makes me lose mana when I hit? or makes the enemy lose mana when I hit them.

The only one I see that this works for is seal of light, thenyou might as well forget the whole reavering process and have Seal of Damage, and every time you hit them you do more damage to them.

I dunno... I don't see this solving much. Maybe give retribution paladins more to do, but this is kinda going back to the two seals/judgements thing that Tommy was talking about before.
#3 Apr 03 2008 at 8:23 PM Rating: Decent
Let me explain

In the case of SoR it would heal YOU. For SoW now it's a chance on hit to drain THEIR mana.

With SoL EVERYONE gets a chance to do extra damage.

Do I make sense now? Also this is in no way trying to bag on you this is just me defending my post.

Oh and now that the my blood pressure has gone down to normal I forgot to mention a few things this strike does 105% weapon damage. Also this still won't solve everything for everyone but I do think that this would be a nice addtion to the paladin class.

PS It is my personal belief that casting judgment should do baseline damage that goes along with the effect of the judged seal.

So... wait... why wouldn't you just use your normal seals? The only thing this would even remotely work for is SoW and the mana pool vs. mana drained and the fact that this is an on hit ability makes it...well... worthless. Back to the drawing board, imo.

But I am getting there..... right?

Oh, and if you want something to help out Ret's utility, give them a CC. Holy Cage or something like that.

They can already do good damage (although it needs more skill than other DPS classes).

i would trade almost any pally ability(cept bubble) for an effective class-wide spell interrupt. nuff said.

Arcane Torrent ^_^

I know you said class-wide, just felt like rubbing some dirt in the ol' wounds there.

thats not what it is.

it when you come to an understanding on how something works. for example. you punch your brother in the face, and all of a sudden you understand the meaning of life.

having a "great idea" already has a term, its called, . . . . having a "great idea"

You win. I know exactly what an epiphany is. I was poking fun at his poor English skills.

Good idea. At least, it sounds good on paper. I think the real issue isn't necessarily making a Ret paladin better. Blizzard can do that in a second. I think their concern is this really nasty word: Balance.

Will your idea make Ret paladins too strong? Will we be over powered?

Personally, I have no problems with a paladin being last on the DPS chain as long that that last place can still be helpful to the group. I happen to thing they can while properly geared. But there's the rub... need to be properly geared and that's not easy.

In the meantime, I'm still going to play Ret and have fun with it. Great idea, though! I liked it.

But lucky for us, Bamninja has a brother, and hopefully Bamninja wants to know the meaning of life.

I can give ret pallies more utility in raids as well..

Lets make them dual wield (with each weapon having it's own unique chance to proc a seal not based on a dual-wield modifier), have 2 new spell interrupts (one of which locks out the school for 5 seconds), a mortal strike, and why not have them @#$% shadowbolts out their backside while we're at it?

Not to sound like TOO much of an asshat on this.. I mean all that in good spirit, but I don't think these ideas are moving in the right direction. Almost all of the fundamental abilities that a Ret pally needs are already in place, they just need to be tweaked so that they WORK for them. Ret pallies have a unique form of CC (and one that they share with other pallies too) only problem is that they're usually useless. Many of their abilities won't work on bosses, blah blah blah....

Epiphany = Insight = Moment of sudden realization or understanding. An Epiphany would be realizing all of a sudden after years of thinking otherwise that Ret pallies get the short stick... Thinking of a way to fix that is just having an idea..

I have to say, I have grown to love bamninja's posts. Such verve. Elan. Exuberance even.

And for those that don't know, I'm pretty sure an apifany is when one of those blood vessels bursts in your head, and makes you kind of dizzy and see funny colors. Or maybe not.

Well, we don't really have a seal that you can "stick" on a mob and have it cause more damage when you hit and be able to have another seal on yourself. SoR and SoC don't stick when judged so it isn't what he is getting at as you must have it active on yourself for continuous hit damage. SotC kind of does what he wants but not in the same way that the OP I think wants it to work.

I think CapJack said it best with a Seal of Damage (though it would need a cooler name :-)
