My first PvP PaladinFollow

I want to give a PvP server a try for something different and want to roll a Horde paladin. I like my PvE/Alliance one (Protection specced at level 43), so I'm a little familiar with the class.

But being new to PvP, I was curious which way to start out. I read through some the FAQ on the PvP damage build.

Should I start straight down the Holy tree first or get the Retribution stuff then Holy?

I'll mostly be duoing with a rogue for grins and giggles if it matters.

Thanks in advance :)

My vote's for retribution. It's very fun and you'll have a field day with anything that isn't a pesky self-healing type (read: holy paladins and resto druids). Retadins have awesome burst damage that usually takes down any class in 3 to 5 swings. Climb the ret tree exclusively up to 41 to get crusader strike then use that with Seal of Command, Hammer of Justice/ Repetence/ Judgement of Command to mow em down. And when warlocks fear you, pop a bubble and continue to beat him down.

If you do go holy, it's fun too coz nothing frustrates the enemy more than a pesky paladin keeping his friends alive and can self bubble/heal when challenged.

I've tried both and I'd pick retribution hands down, with holy as a nice second alternative.

But avoid prot spec for PvP. Most things will kill you without fuss while you try to erect Holy Shield to no avail.

It helped me a lot to do this and I always advise it.

1. Move down ret until Seal of Command
2. Move odwn holy until spritual focus.
3. Move down ret again to your heart's content.

If you do this, by level 30 you will have most of the tools of any other retribution paladin (minus some crit and a couple other things), but you will have a HUGE boost in survivability. Those points in spiritual focus means you will never have to worry about spell pushback as you are healing yourself. I did that above, except I kept going down holy, while having retribution gear. This allowed me to have insane survivability, have almost no downtime thanks to Divine Favor, and I still melted face in PvP.

Going at least until Spiritual Focus will help in both PvP and PvE environments pretty much up until outlands, then you can respec out of it if you'd like, but up until then, it really helps out a lot.
