WTF is so hard to understand about the consens here?

Go watch some mage PvP-video, and if you have the same skills as those players, and still get owned, then come back and complain about imbalance, if you are a NAP, just accept it, watch more PvP-vids, also the ones of "evertas" "vurtne" "foz" "oblivinati" the taco-series. after some vids you will probably change your attitude to something like : OMG, I'm a clicker, have no macros and turning skills, I NEED TO LEARN.

For your gear question: If you want hp and damage and surviveability, it migt MAYBE be already obvious, that you want a PvP-set. If you cannot figure this one out for yourself you have serious issues.

Start with the gear you will most likely keep for some time. Since we are no RL-magicians we're unable to tell you at what date exactely blizz is gonna introduce s4, but my general opinion would be: save the honor, and do some arena. You can always get at least some arena-points by just playing 30mins a week.

When s2 is buyable for honor, just buy some pieces, and farm honor for the other ones, when you're done getting all the gear that can be purchased by honor, you should have done enough PvP, to understand other classes, and develop some skills + you might already have modified your interface to something useful. Also then you'lll have enough equip to not just get pwned instantly.

This is my advice, and it worked fine for me in season 3, getting s1 and vindicator + s3 gloves. I am now happy with my progress, and if you'd stop laming around here you might eventually log into your account, and try out some of this before you go on here.

there is no fast A-B way for this case, simply, because success and gear in PvP depend on more than just a clever game-strategy. you'll need skill and some gear in advance, good partners, gold, more skill, and reflexes. Its not something you'll get by just doing some certain trick, it takes time.

My 2 cents... not that is even worth that. If someone flames you (and I'm not just talking to the OP here)... you need not reply in kind. You will find there are a good deal of people here that are willing to help and such.

If you go back and look at the first few posts of this forum they were all good advice. I've been guilty of flaming myself from time to time, but I have calmed down a bit since then... medication helps. ;-)

So... wait. A guy levels his first toon from 1-70 in 3 more hours than the current world record for fastest leveling but doesn't know how to calculate damage on his spells, where to get gear or how to stop a charging pally w/ BoF (I'd have sheeped it, FYI, but I'm a lock/pally, so mage tricks aren't really my deal). Ebay, imo

I'd have spellstealed it, but sheeping works well too.

After mentally reviewing your situation, I realised, that there actually IS a way for you to get from 1-100 just as fast as the best mages there are.

Buy/grind some money each week, and pay some 2k rated 5v5 team to be able to join their battles often enough to get over 1k arena points a week. It should cost you about 250g a week, which is peanuts for a frequent player/goldbuyer.

Buying gold is illegal, so I would adwise grinding it the normal way. On average it should take you 1 to 2 days, maybe 3 to get 250-300g and the rest of the week you can just spend grinding gold and rep + honor gear and skill like all other players.

It is actually not such a bad method, since you actually have to do some arena yourself to get the gear, and MAYBE they even notice unbelieveable potential in your playstyle, and will make you a permanent member. Not worse than getting dragged along by friends in arena, just that you are actually buying the pro's friendship.

Spellsteal, rank 1 frostbolt(or nova if he's close), and then use that time to get range. If he blows any cooldowns, all the better.

Besides, you have to assume that the mage may be locking down a higher value target as well.

are trying to say a druid with a flag sticking out of his back is more important than a 2 min duel with a runaway ret pally? interesting :O

This thread pains me. It really does. Everyone has given good advice to the OP, yet he goes and becomes psychotic because people are telling him to l2p his class. Seriously, get off the game and get a life. People are offering their time to answer you.

I was going to answer to help as well but all of your responses made me decide not to, in "fear" that I'd be QQ'd to death. I'm only up to level 42 on my mage, but I damn sure know how to play. You can't always do the same rotation over and over again with every enemy out there. It changes.

That's the whole point of levelling. Playing around with all the buttons, finding out what each item does (no matter if there's a description of it). Suck at arena? Do skirmishs. Learn how to play against different teams.

It's one thing asking a question for help (especially with endgame stuff at 70), it's another to ask a question that's been answered multiple times, not only in stickies, but threads, WoWwiki, the item list to the left, etc.

You're hostile attitude won't get you very far with help in the mage forums, or any forum for that matter. You wanted help, people gave it to you. You became hostile, people gave it right back. It's life, get over yourself.

Many people around here know that I tend to ask questions to help better myself, not just on my low level mage or shammy, but even on my 70 rogue. But you don't see me QQing and cussing these people out for giving me their opinion or their GTFO. They've all helped me multiple times and I appreciate it.

Perhaps you should appreciate the help you had received in the earlier posts before you started complaining of people saying to L2P.

10 Different people? Seriously? I saw maybe 5.

And of those, I'm gonna ignore Tommyguns and Loki, because they're more confrontational and that's just how they post.
#63REDACTED, Posted: Apr 13 2008 at 1:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So, it was ok for those guys to be hostile, but its not ok for the OP to defend himself? Sounds to me like new posters have to bow down to older posters, or be pushed out of this forum.

Don't put words into my mouth. I was calling into question your numbers, not saying that the OP couldn't defend himself.

Wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. So far, you seem to be one of the more level headed people here.

Tommyguns, lsfreak, tynuv, rikeoliveira, luthious, ebonspine, theengine, groarr, loki, xnocturnalsunx.

Oddly, I just picked the number 10 out of thin air...but it really was 10 people that flamed him. haha. You guys completely trashed this guy for no other reason than mob mentality. Was there a contest to see who could insult this guy the best or something? I must have missed the chip in on it. :(

I think ktangent said it best.

It's funny you mention all of us, especially me. Obviously you didn't read the whole thread to find that no one was flaming him until he started getting offended by people giving him advice on how to play his class better.

He started talking about arena after his questions were answered and being placed against people with "T6" gear, and people responded.

And you know what? Yes, I'm flaming you, and yes, I rated you down to sub-default. Go ahead and rate me down... oh wait, you can't. We give good information to help people out, new or old, but it's up to everyone to take the time to do some research (that's usually at the top of the page), before coming on any board and asking questions that have been answered multiple times.

So how about next time, you take a look at both sides before accusing someone of flaming a specific person. You called us out and I'm responding.

Hey, I just said that the thread should be locked. I've got no skin in this on either side. At least not yet. :)

Look, everyone takes their lumps at some point. I got beat down a year and half after I started posting on this forum, so being new has nothing to do with it. What matters is whether or not you've done a little bit of research. The group of people who commonly post in this forum are very well-versed in the technical aspects of the mage class. They've put a lot of time and effort into knowing as much as they can, and they're great resources to use. Are some of them brusque? Absolutely. But if you show up with a little information in hand (or at least a basic understanding of the class), they'll get you to the right conclusion.

When you have no concept of how resilience, Ice Lance or the arena rating/matching system works, you're gonna get fried asking how to get to be an elite PVPer wearing awesome gear. Which is essentially what the OP did.

Oh, and to the OP, don't ever, EVER try to pull that "the color of your name/postcount" crap in here. I made that mistake before. Not a good idea, and nowhere close to the truth.

the OP came in with a valid and important question. but if you read between the lines you can see that he was missing some of the more fundamental concepts. it wasn't until some of us(especially me) got more 'confrontational' that the underlying issue was revealed.

i can give specs and advantages to a Porche over a Ferrari, but isn't more effective when a person has already learned to drive? take a driving course and then you will understand why its not the cupholders that are slowing you down.

notice what the OP quoted: the soundbite. not the information associated with it. "Why you get Gladiator Set" is the bottom line. though, someone told him already, he chose to dismiss the information.

HOtdog,

I ran into some similar questions as I'm looking to go PvP. I dropped a post about the abbreviations used, the PvP system, Arena, dailies, etc... Got some great info back which might be of help to you as well.

Heres the link
Oz's questions regarding abbreviations and PvP contents

Hope it helps a bit.
