let me apologize in advance in case im the only one that doesent know any of the tricks im sure there are

let me explain first of in an instance or agroup setting ive never had one complaint as to my healing abilities as a shammy off heal or holy pally etc because i can see every1's health bars and heal accordingly. Now im planning on lvling a holy priest somwhere about 14/47/0 but the question i have in raids or bg's like av etc... it gets so confusing trying to heal this person or that cause you only get a few people's named bars on yer screen and they are usually on t he other end of the bg so it's very frustrating for me to try and heal when i have to click on every person's character to see there health and by that time in av chances are they are dead, so my question is i know there are tricks and more efficient ways of setting things up so would any of the healers that know how to do some of these things plz help a fella out. thx in advance for all the help :)

I use Grid to heal. It makes a box of all characters in the raid which you can adjust to the size you want so that it doesn't take up the whole screen. It also fades out the boxes of people who are out of range. It is a bit of a pain to set up so if you are not used to using add-ons I'm not sure it would be great for you.

Another option would be PerfectRaid. It basically also puts all 40 people in the AV on your screen but the bars are so small it doesn't take up all the space. It also has a range check, but I don't like it as much for healing because the bars are so small.

Keeping it simple (ie without addons) if you press O and select the raid tab, from there you can click on the group headers and drag the whole group onto your main screen. Allowing you to see all 1-8 groups players health and mana. Not the best way but the simplest.

Alternatively and definitely the more recommended way is to install either a healing add on or raid UI addon, or both.

Healbot is a graphical display of health bars for all group/raid members, you just hover over it and can cast just by clicking the bars themselves.

Xperl is a unit-frame addon which will give you all sorts of pretty colours, flashes and well not bangs but you get the idea. It has a nice Raid UI and will give you a good overview of all players status in the raid/group.

Clique is slightly different in that it allows you to assign spell casts to clicking on unit frame windows, it's very simple and easy to use and coombined with a raid UI is very powerful.

There are others out there and I'm sure other people will be only too happy to let you know about them, but they're the ones I've had experience with so I won't mention other addons. It's all a matter of personal preference, have a play around with a few and see what you like.

Another simple method is to use the CTRL-TAB keys. It will scroll through the allies that are in range. For a BG it's a very easy and efficient way to check everybody's health. I like this technique because in a BG you cannot focus only on hp bars. You have to be aware of what is going on. Admitted I would not use that method for a raid.
