Rotations for PvP/PvE moonkinsFollow

#1 Mar 31 2008 at 2:17 PM Rating: Excellent
I'm in the midst of working on a druid atm. I plan on going Boomkin at 70 for the sheer fact the spec interests me, and well, not many of them exist. I'm not well educated enough on the class to know what kinds of spell rotations to expect as a 70 balance druid. I noticed some spells (while being cast upon) have long casting times (starfire, etc?) I know as a rogue (main), long casted spells equals kick bait. So those of you who pvp as boomkins, what spells/combos do you bust out, lets say against a rogue or other class capable of interrupting spells, for example? Are casting times reduced for certain spells and/or is there a cache of instant casts to whip out?

On the opposite hand, what are good rotations in a PvE environment, in respect to damage output and mana control?

Yea tons of questions, maybe there's a site or previous post I can read to look this up?

Thanks

There is an excellent spreadsheet at elitistjerks that will come up with optimal cycles after you enter your gear and talents and whatnot.

I've been using a MF, 3 SF cycle on (mini)bosses and Wrath-spam on trash since they die so fast that the long casting time of SF just doesn't make sense.

In PvP it's MF-spam if I absolutely have to keep moving, Wrath when I am somewhat left alone, and SF when I can stand in the back and nobody is bothering me.

Couple exceptions though:

If Nature's Grace procs, I'm replacing SF with Wrath since it's an almost instant cast then. If I get a "Wrath of Elune" from the Gladiator's gear set bonus, I will of course use SF rather than Wrath.

I've had some insane burst damage since 2.4 was released thanks to the new set bonus and I can't wait to get my hands on S3 or S4 gear to get some more of the crit-goodness (and possible procs) back into my PvP efforts.

One tip: Occasionally you're running into some warriors who put up a spell-reflect when you have them rooted and they see you charging up a nuke. Put a Rank 1 MF on your bar so you can interrupt your nuke and just tickle yourself a little. It really hurts to get a big spell back into your face, especially since they can and will crit. I'm landing killing blows with my warrior quite often that way...

I usually if starting from a run to horde from a distance, cast starfire (long cast time) then hit them with entangling roots and quickly get off a moonfire and as many wrath as i can. (HOPEFULLY) before he gets to me i could have casted a timed heal or just natures grasp. This has me out of boomkin but his first melee ties him up with entangling roots again. If there are equal numbers and u are one on one and if u cast ur treants to keep someone else busy than one on 2 is also quite possible. Just mix in sockets that add resiliancy, crit, and spell power and enchants for the same on gear.

atm i'm lvling up as boomkin curently 45. for solo i start out with SF,MF if eather crit then wrath followed by IS if dont proc just IS. i start out max range and i dont root normaly. SF can knock them down alot haveing crits alittle over 800 atm.

for grouping you dont wanna do how i do it, i tend to over argo. on bosses i start with IS then MF followed by wrath spams untill IS and MF wear off then just repeat. SF just doesnt seem to give as much damage for the cast time. wrath crits for about 300 and so much faster casting. for trash MF wrath wrath dead normaly or close enough that another wrath would be over kill.

I've just set up a macro to cycle through SF/MF/ER/IS By the time SF goes off MF is ready to go and when the cd from MF goes down you generally have enough time to hit them with roots before they hit you. Every once in awhile you take a hit or two but you can back off and wrath twice and ER again to hold em up. At 58 with 21% crit I'll hit 700-1500 damage when roots hits.

By the time your last wrath hits before you end up rooting again you'll have kicked out about 2000 or more damage. It works well and I've slayed quite a few horde using this tactic.

Also, if you find yourself having to kick out and heal for some reason. Make a panic macro that casts barskin and shifts you back into moonkin. Having that extra %damage reduction helps alot.

*shrug* my two cents.

Personally I'd rather get a wrath-speed starfall. Same time, more damage and the 15% chance to stun is just tasty, if you got the talent.

Wrath can proc yet another "Wrath of Elune" and with that reduce the time of the next SF anyway. If it crits it's even better as it will yet again give you Nature's Grace.

Rotations have been rather interesting during my last days as a Boomkin.

i tend to spam SF and keep up natures grasp when i can and as the mob is about to hit me hit them with a MF.

when im soloing i like to keep bee's up so if i start getting hit when i root them the dots will tick away nicely.

i only ever use wrath if im being hit and cba to root or if mob is arcane immune

For PvE best rotation dps/mana efficiency wise is IS - > 4 SF. Actually, moonfire instead of SF would be better dps, but you want to keep IS up at all times, especially on bosses since it's 2% less likely for them to hit the tank. During Phase 2 of Prince this can be invaluable.

In PvP like someone said before if i'm chasing someone I spam MF, if I need to kill someone quick I cast barkskin and spam wrath (it'll normally crit once or twice for 2.2k for me, meaning if 1v1 I can kill something real quick). If left alone in the back of an AV offense push I SF unsuspecting people to death.
