Protector's Sword until Outlands?Follow

The best sword that could be available to me at the moment is the Protector's Sword. I was looking into the Thrash Blade but it sounds like that can be a huge PITA to get. I have done one WSG so far and we won so I guess I would only need 27 more marks to get it.

Will this sword last me until outlands? I didn't really see a better sword for a while. The first one that I saw that was better and relatively easy to get was at like 58. Not sure if I missed any and I wouldn't want to work towards this sword only to discover there is a better one on the AH that I can buy for 10 gold at level 51.

If this sword will work, the highest damage weapon I have been able to get a hold of is a mace. It's stupid "of natures wrath" with + natural spell damage or something but had about 20 more damage than the highest damage sword I could get. Would it be worth it to respec for mace until I get the sword and switch back or just leave it at swords?

Any tips for WSG at 49? I did that I can be 2 shotted by a mage using frostbolt which was a bit embarrassing but I was able to get the flag carrier a few times and I was able to slow down those going for ours.

I never used swords at that level, but I remember Assassination Blade popped up in the AH quite often; you can use that at level 52. It might not be so common these days though (that was way before BC came out). As soon as you enter outlands you'll be replacing everything with greens, so you shouldn't get too attatched to your gear (I've still got a Felstriker sitting in my bank because I couldn't bare to part with it).

Thrash Blade is better imho. It's proc often, looks nice and it isn't hard to get. You have to kill princess in Maraudon and that's not hard. Get good group, maybe ask guildies for a little help there, and be happy with Thrash Blade.

Difference beetwen those two weapons is that Thrash can proc free attack, and Protector's Sword gives +11 attack power and +50 health points. Thrash is just better, trust me. I leveled two rogues to 70lvl, and those two characters were using Thrash from 47+ till Outlands and Foe Reaver from second (?) quest. Try to get Hanzo sword and you will be very happy. (thrash - main, Hanzo - off hand).
Then you can chenge Foe Reaver for Shadowrend Longblade from Hellfire Ramparts (first boss, easy one).

So... get Thrash and you will be happy, really.

I'm assuming you're looking for a MH sword judging by the speed on both swords you linked. And that you're looking for something between 49 and 51? There are a few swords that may be a bit better. Note: may...and things like the Blade of the Wretched were linked due to the AP, but as I said, there are probably much better swords out there.

Blade of the Wretched - Level 49
Lord General's Sword - Level 51
Krol Blade - Level 51 (usually sold on AH for quite the amount of gold)

If I remember correctly, I think I did use the Phantom Blade until I got to Outlands... not too sure though, but it's a level 44 item and pretty much used it for the look lol.

Drayna does have a point though regarding the Thrash Blade (the swords I posted were in comparison with the protector's.

Assassination Blade does look like it would be a cheaper alternative but I don't think I've ever seen one of those on the AH.

I will try again but for some reason people in my guild do not like that instance. I read the boss can be a pain but hunters have Aspect of the Wild which is supposed to make it easier.

I ended up bidding on the Krol Blade. I just want something I can use for a while and not have to worry about it being replaced by something a lot cheaper right after I get it. I am trying to play rogue to the fullest but also on a budget (though bidding on the krol blade pretty much screwed my budget lol).

I used Thrash Blade (with Fiery) well into Outlands. The proc alone is plenty of awesome if you're combat sword spec'd.

If memory serves, the whole instance ran maybe 40-50 min and we weren't in a hurry. Not so hard to get if you can land a group. And most players have run it before, so a PUG might even be worth trying.

IMO, this isn't even a fair comparison. Pair Thrash with a fast +agi/stam off-hand and joyously kill your way to the Burning Crusade content.

Happy hunting

Get a Hanzo Sword for your offhand if you can. Pairs very nicely with Thrash / Krol.

Keep in mind that sword spec procs are triggered by your offhand hitting, but give your extra attack through your mainhand sword. This is why Thrash / Hanzo pair is so great, you can get extra attacks through your sword spec and through the thrash balde itself.

Fiery is a very good enchantment for swords.

I think your memory is playing tricks on you. Maraudon is huge, and some of the trash is pretty annoying. However, if someone in the group has done Mara before, and they have The Scepter of Celebras, they can portal you into the instance not far from Princess, and you can skip pretty much everything else.

It's definitely worth trying to get the Thrash Blade. Seeing all those procs will make you giddy like a schoolgirl with a bucket of crystal meth.

Possible. Me brain good work now, see! But I'm pretty sure it was less than an hour without porting in half-way. Then again, with my regular leveling group, we burned through instances very quickly. Anyway, even at 2-hours the Thrash Blade is worth it IMO.

An interesting choice and a good suggestion. Personally I'd rather have some stats than a rare-proc in my off-hand. But I do remember that good, fast off-hands were hard to come by in the preBC levels... so....

Either hand can proc a sword spec proc, but no matter which hand procs the sword spec swing, the MH will swing it.

Technically Krol Blade/Hanzo Sword would be the best MH/OH combo to go into Outlands with. You will want to get the very nice MH sword out of Ramparts no matter how many times you have to run it.

As far as offhands in Outland go there really isn't a good one until Mana-Tombs unless you get lucky and find a 1.6 spd sword "of the Bandit" on the AH.

I took my 70 hunter through there tonight to just see the zone and get a feel for it. It does look like a pain. My hunter now has a The Scepter of Celebras but that doesn't really help my rogue much since they are on the same account. I thought I read that you can move characters between accounts if the same person owns both so if that's a possibility it might do that.

Bah... Thanks for pointing this out. I posted at about 2am and was a bit out of it, obviously my brain wasn't totally in gear.

You aren't really picking up the Hanzo Sword for the proc. The 1.50 speed is really the reason you would be using it.

Before TBC, the Hanzo Sword was the bread & butter of lvl 50-60 combat sword rogues. Nowadays they are rather rare since they drop from the more obscure lvl 60 instances that no one runs anymore. I've seen various websites quoting up to 75g buyout, but I got mine back in the day for about 20g.

Well worth it if you can find one cheap and get a nice shiney enchant on it since it sheathes down the back (if memory serves me) rather than on the hip so it looks ace.

Thrash Blade is what you want. If a friend has the scepter it's not even a very long run. Get the quest at 45 and you're set for MH for fifteen levels.

I ended up getting a Krol Blade and a Hanzo Sword but I am still only level 49 so maybe I can still get the Thrash Blade before I hit 51 and can equip the Krol but I will keep and use the Hanzo either way.

The problem I run in to with my guild is just that I am on the east coast and they are on the west. When they are getting home at like 6 or 7 in the afternoon their time it's 10 or 11 at night mine and by the time they have gotten settled in and ready it's just to late for me usually. I guess I can try and PUG it but I can see so many places in that instance where things could go wrong and we wipe. At least I have Vanish and, if it works, a potential way to avoid death. lol
