New to the Pally...a few general questions I can't seem to find in the sticky (good stuff, but not really written for a lvl 13 point of view).

1. Leveling - I will primarily level in a duo with a warlock. If I want to tank in instances, should I go protection now, or will a ret pally be ok to tank pre lvl 30?

2. Ideas on stat preferences? What should I be looking for in gear (and i know it depends on what I'm going to do...)? But a quick generalization...
holy should have 1 _____ 2_____ 3_____
ret should have 1 _____ 2_____ 3_____
prot should have 1 _____ 2_____ 3_____

3. At what point as a pally should I make up my mind what I am going to do? For example, I have a Shadow priest that heals in instances just fine, and i know I can do that until about lvl 50 or so and be OK, when I'll have to decide to go DPS or heal. Is there a similar pattern with the pally? Can I heal/tank "just fine" for a while regardless of spec?

Thanks for any help.

Yes - ret will be OK at that lvl. Just get Mail armor.

For leveling. Holy = Int, Ret = Str, Prot = Sta.

load up on those and you'll be fine.

Once you hit Outland, you will want to focus on the spec that you want to perform (i.e. you'll have a very time healing as Ret or Prot). You don't HAVE to, but you'll want to :)

Yes - ret will be OK at that lvl. Just get a shield.

You can tank no matter what your build up until about BRD in the low-50s. Around then is when it becomes much more effecient to be prot.

Holy should go for 1 int 2 sta
Ret should go for 1 str 2 sta
Prot should go for 1 sta 2 int

Reiterate: ALWAYS CARRY AN (as close as you can) UP TO DATE SHIELD REGARDLESS OF SPEC! Drives me absolutely BONKERS when I meet a Paladin/Warrior who says, "I'm DPS, what do I need a shield for?"
