Timbal's Focusing Crystal- tanking trinket? Obviously best in slot for affliction locks and shadow priests, but seems like it should be a nice threat trinket for a pally tank or am i missing something?

hmmm. first glance i only thought of our aoe but then have vengence and i doubt HS would proc it but not even sure about aoe think only vengence would proc it but at what proc rate?? besides the spell damage on it not really good in my eyes. doesnt say if that damage is just normal yellow or takes the effect of vengence and adds 285-475 holy. not to mention no clicky for tanking. all in all rather have the dark moon card. 51 sta and some holy damage proc i think it is. furies set

Periodic damage, most Prot pallies don't use Vengeance since it is a slower aggro builder and there is a chance of it wearing off completely.

Tested the trinket for 10min or so. It does proc off Consecrate as well as Seal of Vengeance. Unfortunately the proc dam is Shadow, shows as a Shadow Bolt for 285-475ish. Procs pretty much every 15sec, provided 1 of those 2 spells is active, so is aprox 25dps. Not sure how significant that is, but i can see it being situationally useful.

Obviously wouldn't replace Darkmoon Card: Vengeance, but since i don't use avoidance trinkets very often, this would be in addition to the darkmoon card.

Is there something you're missing? I'll say there is. It's shadow damage. Also, with absolutely 0 tanking stats on it should scream "not for me" to you.

Shadow damage is not multiplied by our threat mod though. Only holy damage. Doesn't look too suitable really. A fairly low level +spell damage trinket would produce more threat indirectly by boosting SoR and Consec damage, both holy sources of damage, than this trinket would.

I think in cases where there is heavy AOEing this trinket may have some use on a Prot Paladin. Cases where an avoidance trinket or stam-loaded trinket may not be as needed (Hyjal trash? Murlocs on Tidewalker?). It's situational, and I'd never take it over a Lock or S-Priest, but if I had the opportunity to grab it, I would.

That's very interesting to hear, considering I've received confirmation from another prot pally who has one of these, and they say that it actually does not proc off of sonsecrate...

Maybe good for aoe grinding for monies...

edit: assuming it works for consecrate.

Well, its pretty easy to test, just stand there and let a mob beat on you and cast consecrate and watch the combat log, every 15-16sec a shadow bolt will hit the mob. Checked with just HS + darkmoon card with Timbal's equipped and no procs over 5min of a couple mobs beating on me. So its not proccing off shield blocks, just consecrate and SoV. I'll post a screen shot later if you like.

As a threat trinket it utterly fails. Using the base conversion that Ialaman was kind enough to post (and I got owned with quite recently) spell power is converted to threat at 1:.63. This trinket, as a shadow power trinket produces (roughly) 25 DPS over the course of 2 minutes for a total of 25 TPS on a single target in those AoE packs.

The proc rate is on the trinket, NOT the mobs, so AoE grinding does you no good. It will still only proc once per ICD of 15 seconds.

Any readily available spell power trinket with an activated ability to produce more spell power will produce more threat in an AoE scenario, produce it across more targets, and produce it in a controlled and reliable fashion. Even then, these wouldn't really be tanking trinkets unless you're 2-3 tiers above the content you're tanking and have almost 0 way to generate threat because you aren't being hit.

I will assume this has a hidden cooldown like Windfury then?
#14 Mar 30 2008 at 11:56 PM Rating: Decent
15 seconds.

yep like jack said looks like only usefull in grinding moneies off trash mobs. maybe all those dwing mobs that duel each other over by BT. i love killing those guys only little harder when that elite jumps in on the fun.

I would have to say then, with a hidden cooldown, this trinket blows for tanking/grinding. It simply won't fire enough to out damage a trinket with a "use" feature that increases spell damage for a set amount of time (I wouldn't think, but no way I'm racking my brain on that math =P). The spell damage increase is nice and high, but 1 mob every 15 seconds (optimal) in an AOE setting = fail, particularly as Shadow damage.

I change my statement: if I see this drop, and no Lock/S.Priest to take it, it's gonna get sharded.

Mages should get it too. With ignite and fireball they actually have a decent chance of proccing this thing.

Not to make this into a Mage thread, but is that just Fire Mages? Or would other specs benefit from it as well? I'm leveling a Mage, Frost spec right now, and atm I can't see this thing doing me any good if I were to stay Frost at 70. But, there may be something I haven't experienced yet that would make it good for any spec (only 36 atm).
