+dmg for KaraFollow

#1 Mar 28 2008 at 8:59 PM Rating: Decent
I've searched through the forums a bit and saw that the recommended +dmg requirement was about 600-700 for mages. Now I'm currently sitting at +695 but constantly get told my dmg is too low. Now was the stuff I read wrong or am I actually under geared for Kara?

heres my armory link so you can give me a "lawl gear up n00b"...

While you have several pieces of gear that need upgrades(trinkets most notably), your gear as a whole is fine for Kara(though it could stand to have more enchantments and 2-3% more crit).

Are you sure the person/people telling you this aren't talking about your actual damage output in the runs, or have they not even taken you?

Additionally, at your current gear level, you might benefit from a 40/21/0 or some variation. As an added bonus, your paper doll +dmg will go up by over 100, which should quiet some arguing, though it won't help your ailing crit.

Many Kara runs now are badge runs, were they only want over geared people for fast runs. So its possible runs like that are rejecting you. If thats it could try looking for a guild working on Kara or who still farm it as a guild.

I've seen mages with gear below that in Kara. I would work on getting your tailoring up and making your epic set (Spellfire from the looks of it). If you can get your hands on the Spellstrike set, even better. Those alone will rocket you past the dmg requirements for Kara mages.
From where you are now you could cap your tailoring easily in a few days. Otherwise, just find a guild who is on Kara/Gruul and you should be fine.

Very nice tailoring guide here.

Your gear seems alright for kara. Mhog's advice is good, do go for tailoring sets if you are getting denied spots because of +damage/gear.

Also you wont be hurt by a few more heroic runs to get a little bit better gear, maybe The Black Stalk for example

Black Stalk is nice, but the badge wand is much better.

And what was said earlier is probably true. Most Kara runs are done for easy badges.

I'd like to ask a question to piggy back on top of this answer:

What are the top DPS builds for different gear levels? i.e. when is deep fire better than arcane fire? At 70 is frost ever pumping out more damage (excepting fights against fire elementals)? Is there a certain amount of mp/5 I should have before going from something like 10/48/3 to 2/48/11?

Roughly 750-800 spell damage is the cutoff, iirc. And I've seen charts showing frost as the highest damage build pre-T5 in equal gear, which spellfire nullifies the notion of equal gear there.

if you can manage the imps as a mage on illy, you'll have bragging rights for years to come.

They're not hard to do. Proper spec, a bit of FR gear, and proper knowledge of downranking makes it trivial.

My mage doesn't have much better gear and got 450-500dps through Kara last night, and led damage dealt through most of the run. Point being we completed Kara with 450-500 dps (aka: completely lackluster dps) as our highest DPSer. The majority of the mishaps were idiot mistakes and wouldn't have been prevented by better gear.

Yea my spec is 10/48/3 and it works really good because i used to have problems with my mana but the clearcasting in arcane helps me alot, and most of the time i have most damage and only have about +600.
