You can level as prot. It's easier if you dual wield instead of weapon and shield. Having devastate is a big help. Note that it is still harder than if you were arms/fury.

You can PvP as prot, but then again you can row across the Atlantic Ocean (it's just not a very smart thing to do.)

Good luck.

As prot, you will have the advantage verses other melee classes (rogue and warrior in particular, but also pallies and in a way, hunters), but won't usually have the massive amount of damage to take down clothies.

If you were to switch to fury or arms for pvp (arms is better) you will get massive crits and burst damage, meaning you can take out clothies in a few hits if you have enough rage. However if you were to come up against a prot warrior, you would have a hard time because of the amount of damage reduction they have.

Unfortunately that means that while you will win a lot of 1v1 fights as prot, it can take a while before you do win. In bgs by that time usually they have brought support, or have run away, so you will have a problem there.

As for leveling as prot you sure can, I did it from 60-69. It is slower though, and I spent a lot of time in instances rather than just pure leveling.

I would suggest getting a hold of tbc though, as the gear and content of outlands is amazing compared to pre-tbc. However if you want to pvp a bit, stay at 59 as you will dominate everyone else in AB and WSG, or you could ding 60 and proceed to tear it up in AV, and you will of course have the lvl 60 pvp gear you could buy as well.

well yesterday i was in arena with my friend fire mage...we fought against MM hunter and feral druid..it was realy hard ,becauze i havent bought pvp trinket and all that root and trap $it just makes me crazy....ok but after all they won like 70% of fights.it was realy hard, they killed fire mage very fast and then rooted me and just shooted..=/
after that i changed to arms and my friend to frost and man..that..was..PURE PWNAGE..hunter was so easy to kill 4 hits maybe 2 if crits..that feral druid bear was too realy easy.even he has thick skin i crited him well and when he wanted to heal and went out of form it was 1 crit 900 XD ...we beat fury warrior&frost mage, 2 frost mages, shaman and frost mage...well i am glad we didnt me any warlock or shadow priest...
well eya its way better to be arms in pvp becauze its so easy..only 3 buttons to p ush MS,deathwish,harmstring...but thats booring=/

fury in my heart

As Prot Warrior I am VERY useful in BGs.

Guarding flags in EOS or AB is perfectly suited for Prot Warriors, along with the handy "/bg BS" command. I almost always get help before I die (unless of course it is a major force coming in).

The same works but only to a lesser extent guarding towers/bunkers in AV.
The place is just too big.

Tanking Vann is a rush :)
I do not even need that much healing.

Nothing is better than the following sequence:

Population around Vann = zero.

/bg I am tanking Vann

Population around Vann immediately jumps to around 25.

What a rush!

When AVs become bogged down on the road, I can move the battle by quite a bit by just riding through. Oh I die... but I distract a LOT of firepower in the meantime, and when I come back from death I almost always find that the battle lines have moved substantially. I can get to North Bunker - and live long enough for others to see that the bunker has a horde fighting there and so they automatically go in to help. Next thing you know voila - the bunker is horde.

As a Prot Warrior I can substantially affect the course of a BG.
And did I mention how much I like to tank Vann?

I'm glad I came to this thread. I was about to ask if any good players had seriously tried out being Protection in BGs or Arena. I can see how that works in BG, but I wonder exactly HOW unsuccessful it would be in Arena, not simply that it wouldn't get very far. (That is obvious enough. :P)

I would not advise be a prot warrior pvp, I have friend is prot warrior & have arm warrior I beat every time with about = gear. Now don't get me wrong he is great instance & pve. I see take on elite I couldn't beat by myself. I just don't think good build for pvp.

Prot warriors excel at running the flag in wsg. Yesterday on my resto druid i was lucky enough to have a tank with 22k health, took there whole team to kill him.
