Leveling my lock again, I'm in my mid-50's now, and I know I am going to go with an Affliction spec. Its going to be 45/5/11. My end game goal is to be doing 5's as well as BG and general PVP related activities, almost no raids or the like. I am trying to decide if I should put my last few points of affliction into Suppression or Shadow Embrace? Aside from that I have the spec I want, I just can't decide which of those to go with. I am leaning towards Shadow Embrace to keep me alive a few seconds longer, but some of you have been PVPing with Affliction for a loooooong time.

Thanks.

General consensus is that 1 or 2 points in Suppression is enough (maybe more than enough) so I would definitely go with Shadow Embrace.

Of course, I think Shadow Embrace was nerfed a little in 2.3 but it's still better than Suppression.

Thanks. I'll go with Shadow Embrace and get some +spell pen.

spell penetration is useless for leveling, you don't have enough gear with +spell penetration to make the stat worth while.

For leveling as Aff, I put a few points in suppression because it reduced the number of full resists that I got on mobs that were higher level than me. Compared to the small debuff and minor drain increase associated with Embrace, I felt Suppression was a much better leveling talent.

If you want to gear for it instead, the mechanics would lend towards needing spell hit. Spell pen is a different ball of yarn.

Spell pen is a waste of bleedin' time.

I wouldn't suggest ever going past 1 point in shadow embrace for pvp just because the reduction in damage is minimal and there are other talents that will let you do damage faster in pvp thus killing your opponent before he can deal the damage to begin with.

Thats pretty much your answer. Think about it. For every 10,000 damage you would normally receive, shadow embrace would mean you take 500 less damage. For five talent points thats pretty anti-climatic.
