Hello all,

http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?searchQuery=mafinn&searchType=all

That is my gear right now. Our guild has started kara over the past month and we took down both Curator and Prince our first time on Sat night. I feel as if I was doing good dps with 41/20 Aff/Dest but was still behind our guilds fire mage. My trash rotation was curr and then SB spam. About half way through the run, i switched up to casting shadows then doing SB spam. On bosses, I moved to a full dot rotation and spammed sbs. CoD was up on all bosses.

Today, on a lark, I respecced to 40/21 Aff/Dest to see how ruin would do.

Should I be getting beatwen by her consistantly?

Am I maxing out my dps with my current build?

Thank you for your time and comments

Trying casting corr on a couple of mobs. Not only do you get increase in dps from the spell itself, but from nightfall as well. Don't know about end-game, but it works for me.

It depends highly on what run your doing, but if a Fire Mage is leading the DPS overall in a Kara than they are either geared better than everyone else or the Melee is doing terrible. Trash in Kara should be lead by the Melee, and it can be done relateively quickly and sometimes actually in groups of multiples.

For a fire mage to be leading the scores, ya'll must be inching through because she obviously has enough time to drink back up after each fight. Technically, you should be matching her here on a quick run since you can Dark Pact and continue the onslaught. What Germa actually said is a very very good point, too, Corruption can be the one and only DoT you throw on Trash, but you should at least throw it on everything. Nightfall is one of the primary ways Affliction Lock can compete with Destruction. In the end in a good paced Kara run, a look at Trash DamageMeters will show Hunters and Warriors up at the top, usually a good Rogue can get up there too.

Trash in Kara can be easily taken out, however, so this is not where you're important. You need to be throwing up sustainable high DPS with the ability to burst. Here you're going to need that UA to assist your damage, too. Keep your Imp out for the Dark Pact and stamina, but do not be afraid to Lifetap and expect heals from the Healers - this is not a 5man, and your ability to maximize DPS is as important as the Tank's ability to tank. Pop cooldowns and manapots early, use Amp Curse with a Doom and keep Doom in place of your regular DoTRot Curse so you don't overwrite.

Trinket UA Corruption Amp Doom Immolate SL SBx3 UA Corruption Immolate SBx3 Immolate UA Corruption SL DPx2 SBx2 and on and on. On bosses like the Prince there is no way you will lose out to a Fire Mage if you keep a good DoTRot up, use Doom, and keep a steady flow of SBolts flying. Remember, SBurn is not the "best" idea but there are situations where it's definatly worth throwing on, and ALWAYS throw in DeathCoil if you have enough HP gone to make it worthwhile, it's not like you're saving the instantcast for nothing -- you think Fire Mages hold onto their Fire Blast in case of emergencies? Hell no, it gets thrown on the mix. Try not to drop life too quick or too far. You need heals back but you don't want to freak the healers into making an emergency heal on you that can cause a wipe.

About your UA, numbers have been run and rerun, and hell I don't even know amymore with some of the new gear (especially Haste) coming along with 2.4, but until you brim a certain level of gear, UA > Ruin by a noticable amount, and you should switch back to 41/0/20. When ruin becomes viable is when you have the Hit, Crit, and SpellDamage needed to take most fights immediatly into SBSpam, and you'll be dumping Affliction entirely.

Remember you're not supposed to be topping total damage charts, the only way a Warlock should win out a Kara Damage chart is from being the doing special ops in battles like Illhoof or Netherspite... Just worry about those boss fights.
