It seems that Blizzard has come up with a fun and fair new way to PvP. All can chooes 3 new toons that are already levelled to 70 and have an unlimited source of PvP gear (and some Pve gear too), enchantments and accessories to choose from to battle it out with.

Being that my main toon is a Prot spec Paladin, I have never been big on PvP (apart from the overused 19 rogue twink) and Arena but I think it gives those players an insight on how Arena is for the serious PvPers.

I like the fact that its balanced in the respect to gear and relies more on skill and strategy (I know team ratings kinda fix this in normal arena).

What do you guys think about the new tourney?

Some will be like you, thinking it's a fun and exciting way to try out/play more Arena under a more balanced scenario.

Others will complain that it's yet another way for people to play using free epics (ever read the complaints about pre-made characters for the test realm??).

For me: it's still PvP, and I won't touch it.

I'm pretty sure Turner summed it up the best way possible...I suppose it would be neat to try out, but not worth 20 bucks. If I remember right, I remember reading you had to have a certain arena rating if you even wanted to sign up? If thats the case, thats pretty lame too.

No I don't believe you need to, you just need to sign up. The thing that appeals to me is that everyone is on the same gear level. They are all fresh characters, and from the moment you step into the realm, it is all skill on the player for picking out the right gear, and getting in the right groups, and using the right strategies to come out to the top.

I probably won't be doing it just because I don't know as much as I could about PvP and my timing isn't nearly as good as it should be.

Yeah I dont like the whole free epics on the test realms and have never tried test realms for the simple reason that I think it devalues the real game in respect to dedication to time and gearing up appropriately.

This brings me to another question. If I wanted to PvP in Arena with the goal being to get my S3 Ret gear what would be the quicker way? Sourcing holy instance drops to start off with and use them till I can afford the arena points to convert over to Ret? Or gearing ret from the beginning and saving up for S3/Gladiator/Vindicator gear?

For some people, like myself, PvP Tournaments might be enough to get them hooked on arena PvP, where they might never normally try it because of where they are in the game.

I have been Prot for about six months and dont really have ret/holy gear apart from the odd instance drop or rep piece that is available to me that no one else needs. I dont plan on tanking any further than heroics because I can never guarantee what time I'll be on because of work etc so Raiding is generally no go for me.
