Okay... Cool. 2.4 is out. Anyone find any undocumented changes for hunters yet?
#2 Mar 25 2008 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
Nope. I haven't gotten the chance to get on yet. You might want to check the main WoW fourm though. I just saw that someone made a thread about undocumented changes there. Brand new.

I saw a couple when upgrading

When stealthed, your flare will appear to other in the area.

Improved Hunter Mark will override a normal HM by others.

Something about not turning when target of steady shot is not in front of you

At least the first and third of the above are documented in the patch notes. The second may be also, but I'm not looking at them right now and I don't recall.

I logged in after the new patch, and... (I may be wrong here)... The Boar's Threat spike is gone!!!

I was able to pull aggro off my lvl 70 boar far too easily.
I installed the newest version of Omen I could find, and it showed an initial threat of (only) about 1.3k, where it used to be closer to 4.0k
This is only just above what my Cat starts off with.

From the combat log (My pets name is Baest):
Combat Log wrote:
Baest casts Charge at Felboar.
Baest gains Charge.
Baest casts Growl at Felboar.
Baest's melee swing hits Felboar for 156 Physical
Baest casts Gore at Felboar.
Charge fades from Baest

It seems that the 1st melee attack listed is what was boosted by the AP bonus from Charge, because from there on damage was in the range 95 to 105.
I was under the assumption that the nice threat spike occured because the AP bonus was applied to the Growl effect.

Can someone else confirm?

I can't confirm a change has been made, but I can confirm Growl used to get increased threat from the +AP from charge. Your pet gets increased AP until next melee swing, and Growl isn't on the GCD so obviously, Growl hits the mobs before anything else does.

Too bad if it really is a steath nerf. For boar users that is :]

I've noticed something, I'm not sure if it's just my incapabilities at jousting or if it's really a stealth nerf.

Anyways, before the patch, I would have no problem shooting someone and because of the lolnodeadzone, immediately running through them and wingclipping/Raptor striking. However, now the raptor strike doesn't go off. I queue it to my attack, but even my white hit doesn't go off. This leads me to think that weapon and ranged attacks are no longer on the same timer.

To make it a little clearer, before the patch you could basically shoot and then immediately swing your big axe/sword/spear and whack your opponent. Now I seem to notice a delay in the weapon swing.

Comfirm/deny?

Make sure that the Autoshot/Auto Attack option in your interface is turned off. I believe ALL of the interface options were reset back to default because the whole interface has been changed.

I found a bit of a nerf. It's not exactly a "stealth" nerf, since it was a documented change in the mechanics of the game. Since Mana regen scales differently now and has to do with how much intellect you have, if you have less than 300 intellect, your out of combat regen gets screwed. Many hunters are seeing drops as big as from 80mana per tick down to 50 mana per tick. It's not a huge deal in raiding, since during boss fights, we never really stop casting for 5 seconds to see it. But during solo grinding, it's really, really bad.

Anyone want to answer my earlier question, how many badges is the crossbow?

This has been making a very big stink across many forums. It is a nerf, and it is quite a big one.

Farming has now become harder, and I now have to throw on viper ALL the time to continue anywhere near my past rate.

Yes, the crossbow is 150 badges. And so is the 2H axe, which is actually a very nice weapon. I'll get the crossbow first, but after that I'm saving for the 2H axe, since I don't do arena and legacy will never drop. And neither will trollbane, for that matter.

I went out solo'ing to do about 20 dailies (OMG!), and I did notice a little bit of a drain on my Mana, but it wasn't as bad as I really thought that it would be. Maybe it's because I have 260 Intellect, which is pretty close to the point at which the nerf evens out.

I'm kinda looking at it the same way that I saw the AP:AGI ratio change. It's just something new to get used to, and it can be combated by sticking with Mail pieces instead of losing a ton of Int by using leather.

At this point... I'm not too worried about it. 47s for a stack of 5 rations at Quel'Danas isn't too bad if you don't have a mage friend that can drop a table for your 80 manna biscuits. It's WAY cheaper than buying food and water separately.

I noticed this too. My boar was my ultimate farming pet. Now it is basically worthless. :( WTF!?

I for one can confirm this :(

My boar now does about the same TPS as my cat or ravager, with the initial threatspike gone ../cry

So it seems that for now atleast,a dps pet is the way to go,since my boar is inferior in damage output, and it no longer holds agro the way it used too :((

so sad :/

They fixed snake trap so that it no longer attacks non-flagged players. It was fun while it lasted.

Dam I was hoping the new Omen just wasn't showing it correctly.

Wow, a lot happened in the week I was on vacation! Ugh, my addons are all broken now. Time to revamp the UI again...

I think Blizz was targeting that Hunters no longer needed +INT to do sustained DPS. By scaling Mana regen with INT they bring it back. So now it's back to competing for Shaman gear if you need the mana regen. I think they might be forcing hunters to gear a little smarter now and dropping potential DPS unless you choose to be a sprint DPS'er. It also gives caster classes some UMPH back against the hunters. They tend to have high INT and can keep going despite the 'nerf'.

It's possible Blizz means for hunters to be burst DPS and utility. By extrapolation, that would mean that they intend for our sustained DPS to be lower by using AotV and thus not in competition with the clothie caster classes. Were the caster sorts whining about Hunters being too OP?

Sadly, I'm not sure that balances out the specs against each other any better, in fact, it may hurt MM even more. In Arena I rarely ran out of mana, except in strangely long fights. Now, I can see myself blowing mana to minimum even in a standard length fight. The other specs (BM & SV) are more mana efficient so it may bring up their utility in a fight. I'm not sure this will really kill MM as a viable spec, but it certainly doesn't help it, and PvP, where it was strong has a decent chance at being seriously impacted. I may never get the chance to finally get 'good' at MM before I am forced to change to BM. Maybe I can look at +INT gear again.

I'd like to hear some more from BM/SV hunters to know if it's an equivalent hit on their spec.

The parrot riot crossbow is wild looking... anyone use it yet? Might make a good 'accessory' to my dour Arena gear... LOL!

I could be missing something here, but should it really make a difference for boss fights, since we're not gonna stop "casting" for 5 seconds anyway?

nope, no change for us on bossfights, and if you grind reasonably quick it wont be much of a difference there either.

I've noticed some bugs. Oddly enough, they've only been on my hunter...

1) escape key doesn't work. This seems to happen completely randomly. I'll hit escape to close my bags, or lose a target and nothing happens. It'll be that way for a while then not.

2) auto shot doesn't start autoshot. I have to use my steady shot macro to start it, which isn't ideal in a battleground.

3) Ability not learned! Every now and again when I try to feed pet it'll tell me I don't know the ability. wtf?
