2.4 live today, muti changesFollow

#1 Mar 25 2008 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
I've been following closely to the mutilate thread on the EJ forums, and with the adjustments they made to their models(with the advent of Puncturing wounds), they are saying that mutilate should be very near, if not on par with combat builds.

Can't wait to try out my new Fang of Vashj and Heartrazor I picked up last week. ^^

im currently (sloooowly) working on getting some honor for S2 daggers next season so i can go back to my mutilate spec which i loved so much.

Im really glad they've addressed mutilate. whether or not its enough to make it the shiz is something else entirely, but at least it is a fairly substantial change.

Yup. 2.4 makes me a happy person. Especially the part about the instant honor calculations and the new instance and the new raid. It'll be good fun.

I am hoping to go mutilate with the new horde rogue I am leveling (53 now), I used to love it on my nelf so I hope this pans out as well.

Mut is pretty freaking nice, I must say. I need to get a new meta, though.

I bet a lot of those who go Mut go back to lolstep, simply because it's less hassle to play. But yeah, Mut is looking pretty tasty. If only there was a good mathematical model for mut dps so we could spreadsheet it to see how good it is more accurately.

There are a few ppl that are working that model up right now. They still have to tweak some things, but I would really like to see some WWS reports from muti rogues from the t6 encounters.

When blizz added resilience, I thought that would be the death of dagger builds in Arenas, but with this improved talent, we can pretty much chew right through the resilience cap with 2.5% crit to spare. This is going to raise a question that was asked before, but I don't remember the answer and shadowstep has changed a lot from the crummy talent it once was. Will shadowstep's utility combined with prepartion's cooldown spamming offset the damage that can be done by mutilate in terms of Arena PVP?

You forgot Cheat Death. Cheat Death is a massive part of ShS.

I just got Dagger of Bad Mojo from ZA and I'm looking to keep that as my main hand weapon when i test out muti later this week.

I have merc glad shiv and emerald ripper for options for the OH, ripper is slower so would that make it the logical choice as opposed to the 1.4 speed shiv?

Or, would the resil and higher dps of the shiv make it better than ripper?

Lol theo, you gotta remember that not everyone knows everything and is as good at everything as you are. Try helpful suggestions instead of putting them down and you will get more rate ups :)

@ Ipureownz, fastest is best in OH because it means that poisons can proc more and faster speed = more dps =)

For a Muti. build....? think again

Why do you think this dagger showed up in S3

Not really, if you are just auto-attacking, a 91.1 dps dagger at 1.80 speed will do the same dps as a 91.1 dps sword at 2.60 speed.

Hence why they are both 91.1 dps.

Difference between Vengeful shiv and Vengeful Mutilator is mostly that your Mutilates will hit harder with the Mutilator (due to higher top end dmg). However the shiv will hit more often, hence more poison procs.

use whatever you have on hand, the speed really doesn't matter all that much, their has been a graph floating around this site for months that showed the difference and it's so slim.. don't worry about it use whatever but i'd go with the higher dps.

if your serious about the spec, and aren't some elite pvper that can get the rating needed for the dagger ^^above theirs a nice dagger that was just added with 2.4

45badges and its yours.. quite a good deal i'd say.

I think that we are forgeting that Muti. is a burst dmg build not a sustained DPS build, it is designed to hit hard and fast. In that case higher top end dmg weps would due you better.

O all these comments makes me SO happy. thanks all of you, thank you so much.

Iam thinking of giving up impr evisc and ruthlessness.

Ill put 2 in murder and throw 1 in my 4/5 impr poisons. and ofcourse 3 in P wounds.

Ruthlessness wont be as effective as 2% more poison applications & 2% increased damage to everything towards most mob classes. Ofcourse this was true before but now my mutilate is easily 30%+ crit.

2 mutilates mean 4 strikes. at 25%, you theoreticly have a chance for one of those 4 to crit [or one of 2 muties to crit] and give you an extra point. I'd like to say 30% assures this event to occur, well, almost everytime. Thus rendering ruth just a bit less utile than usual.

Non too justified a change but i havent had the chance to test new build configurations in while.

I have over four thousand (4,000) posts as a scholar. My UI threads are all at the highest possible karma, and I get regular rate-ups from a lot of my funnier posts; why do you think I care at this point?

Even if someone were to de-scholar me, I can just made a "Wow, I got karma-trolled" post and get it back within an hour, like the last time it happened to me at 2k posts.

You're so wrong that you're almost right again.

You know, like a globe. You've gone all the way around the wrong way so that you're almost back to where you started.

Average damage matters, not top end. In this case, the question was pathetically easy to answer.

A 97.5 DPS OH compared to a 87.5 DPS OH is a no-brainer.

And FYI, normally a slow OH is better for mut, regardless of poison procs.

For PvE Mut, you should be speccing: http://wowhead.com/?talent=f0efoEMoizVohfV0bV

For PvP, it's a little more complicated. I'll go into detail if you really want, but I'd rather not waste the time if you don't need it.

WWS Report:
http://wowwebstats.com/fp2zmdtr6yrne

Rogue's name is Neg. Partial t5/t6 gear using Fang of Vashj/Tracker's Blade. Seems to hold about 1350dps, but he said that there were some things that he could've done better.

I would say that deadly poison can conduct electricity, thus can hurt robots via short circuit. Make it happen GOGO

I'm trying to come up with a viable build for both. Small changes
