Better for initial-endgame Frost mage: FSW or T3?Follow

I'll hit 70 soon. I won't just jump into full-time raiding, but I'll certainly give it a try, along with Heroics and everything else. But I'm wondering: which would be better for me to get to start out with endgame content: Frozen Shadoweave (FSW) or Incanter's Regalia (T3)?

FSW gives 29 more bonus damage, and otherwise T3 is superior; at least that's what I think, having looked at both sets. It seems to me that FSW would benefit locks and spriests more given its healing ability combined with their DoTs. And I think T3 would probably be easier to get. All those damn Primals...><

What do you think?

If you're thinking about crafting, craft spellfire and spec fire.

FSW holds no merit for mages, as being specced frost is less efficient then fire on every boss besides Al'ar, and the honor rewards are better for pvp.

I'm too lazy to look into the differences between crafted 70 gear and the t3 set, so I can't answer that one.

I hope this helped.

Not to nitpick, but Incanter's is D3, not T3. Frostfire is T3.

And FSW is better for raiding as a frost mage. Pair that with 2pc Mana-Etched for the 2pc set bonus or Spellstrike for the massively awesome stats and bonus.

Edit: Yes, fire will likely do more damage than frost, but if you're set on frost, I'm not gonna tell you not to.

@Kapot: I've considered getting Spellfire, though for Arcane, not Fire. I have a Fire mage on another server, so that's why I wanna keep this other mage away from Fire but still do well (I don't care about being the best DPS; I just wanna contribute in a significant, viable manner to my groups), forever if possible.

@Pold: Thanks. ^^

I'm sorry, but I have a problem with raiding frost. I've raided frost in full T4/T5, fire in T4/T5, and fire in spellstrike/spellfire. Sure you can do ok damage as frost, but not as much as you can fire, no matter how you look at it.

That's pretty much saying you wanna do just enough to get by without getting booted from raid but choose not to help out as much as possible. If you wanna try arcane then suck it up, get the spellfire/spellstrike sets, get in a great raiding guild, get some T5 and go arcane. You can even spec 40/21 after you get some T4 if you want(need the +int that lacks on spellfire) and start up a AB, AM, scorch rotation a little early on, while still having the fire to back you up in long fights (and still out DPSing frost mages).

If you all about frost then go with the rest of the frosties and PVP

Actually, you'd be surprised. Assuming equal gear(yes, I know Spellfire is better than FSW, hush), a T4 equivalent mage tends towards max DPS with frost thanks to the Ghost hit for frost on Elemental Precision.

The only real difference is just how much better Spellfire is than FSW.
