Level 60 mount - is it worth it?Follow

Hi all,

my druid is now level 61 (well on the way to level 62). I never bothered to get the level 40 mount since my travel form was fast enough and more convenient than the mount (can go into travel form during combat for example).

I'm now considering if I should get the level 60 mount and pay 600 gold for the riding skill or whether I should wait until level 68. At level 68 I get the flight form and if I'm right I also get riding with skill 225 for free (!) together with the flight form. At least this is what several websites say.

So basically, what would you suggest:
1) Wait for level 68 (and thus save 600 gold) to get the level 60 mount.
2) Spend the 600 gold now to get the level 60 mount.

I'm currently leaning towards option 1) since I see that at level 70 I will need to spend 5000 gold for riding skill 300 in order to get my epic flight form.

What did / would you do?

Many thanks,
Michael

You won't save 600 gold to get the level 60 mount, you need to buy 150 skill before you can buy flight form.

That said, 100% is a lot faster than 40%, and you have a lot of travelling to do, so get it anyway.

In fact, you have to also get the 75 training that costs about 80g.

So in reality, you've saved nothing at all.

So does that mean that the WoW Wiki is completely wrong on this topic?

Please take a look at:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Flight_Form

In particular the Notes say that:
"Upon learning Flight Form, you will receive Riding (225) free of cost."

Is this information in the WoW Wiki wrong?

Thanks,
Michael

As far as i know, to get the higher riding skills, you must have the ones before it learnt as well.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the replies. I've re-read the WoW Wiki page and it is now clear to me. I indeed need to get skill 75 and skill 150 riding in order to get the (free) skill 225 riding.

Many thanks again,
Michael

Additionally, don't forget about Battlegrounds. No flying mounts (or flight form) in there. If you intend to BG (as it seems everyone does these days for the S1 goodies), epic land mount is kinda a must.

a must for alterac valley but all the other ones you can pretty much do without.
EOTS is nice to have a mount but you could probably get away without one.
AB and WSG you could continue to gimp through with travel form only but it's still nice to have that 100% speed increase.

It's no more a "must" in AV than any other, in fact I'd argue that having the epic mount in AV is a convenience whereas in AB, WSG, EotS it's a critical piece of executing a winning strategy. "Must" in the sense that anything in WoW is a "must" of course. You could do BGs naked and with run turned off, but you wouldn't be very effective.

In AV, generally, you're offense or defense. If you're O, you roll with the pack southward. If you're D, you stay back and could conceivably never mount up (though everyone does). It isn't all that common to find O or D suddenly needing quick reinforcements. If you are at that point, it's probably a loss anyway.

In AB, quickly moving from one over-defended node to an underdefended one can make all the difference. Recapping before the node switches "ownership" saves a ton of resources.

EotS, as a cross between AB and WSG in terms of overall goals (node/flag concept), favors having an epic mount for similar reasons. The zerg factor (quickly hitting an undefended FR/BE or MT/DR, depending on your faction) makes it slightly more important here.

In WSG, meh, not as huge, though catching that flag-running druid in travel form is alot easier at +100%...not that you can kill the bastid once you get there anyway...

I just thought about trying to ride across Zangarmarsh 50 billion times without the lev 60 mount, and I wept.

Actually try without even a level 40 mount! The OP never even got that!
