Thanks for that input - it gives me something to work towards; and WOW do I have alot of work ahead of me!
Nice guide and according to those stats my priest which dinged 70 this saturday is ready for Kara/heroics :)
Guess I need to do some pvp though :(
I quick thing I noticed whilst looking at the upgrades, the Gloves of Preservation are leather, not great for priests but extremely nice for resto druids. The (cloth) boots from this quest are decent though and relatviely easy to get.

Thanks for pointing that out, I got the right quest for the reward but it was the boots that should have been included. I have removed the gloves and put the boots in.

Sticky indeed, doubt it will ever happen though, we're still waiting for khalane's shadowpriest guide to be stickied. 
Thanks for the comments, I've finished the first draft of this now and will be working over the next few days to refine it and improve some of the alternative gear on offer. One of the major things I've really not sorted through yet is quest rewards, there's plenty there which is as good as or better than the lower quality items in each slot already listed, so they will be added soon.
I'll also be confirming the 2.4 patch items as well, and updating their tool-tips once Alla has them listed.
Again thanks for the comments, not sure whether it's worth stickying or not, would very much depend on whether people new to the class/level 70 are finding it useful.

For chest enchants, you can never really go wrong with +6 stats but if your mp/5 is a little low then restore mana-prime is a good idea. It gives 6 mp/5. Very nice listings and breakdowns. Excellent job.
Only thing I saw glancing over it was the dark purple on drak gray is hard to read. Lot of great work.

Hehe, thanks for that, it's one that I see the most often on newer 70's yet I didn't include it, go figure. I'll add it now on the basis all of the other blue maces are harder to get and The Essence Focuser is definitely worth it as a starter.
I'm bumping this up since it should be a sticky anyway and I get sick of scrolling down to search for it. :)
Just wanted to point out that the 2.4 engineering helm is, strictly speaking, attainable, but it drops from the Sunwell Plateau trash and so it will probably cost quite a bit, if it's even attainable. (There's also a tailing robe and JC'ing neck that are available, but again the pattern drops from trash, and a ring and gloves that can be crafted for mats, but the mats include Sunwell drops as well. So all these are possibly available, but it'll take a progressed server and probably 5k+ gold to get any of them).
Also, you might want to just give a quick ratio that 3 spirit = 1mp5 while casting in general (assuming 3/3 meditation), and in non-chain-casting situations spirit is even better.

2.4 came out the weekend after I initially wrote this so I wasn't sure what was going live at the time. I also didn't have access to accurate loot tables, I'll be working on that this week I think as I'm also aware of several drops in Magisters' Terrace as well as Sunwell Plateau that may be worth a mention. I think though I will add an additional note to any Sunwell Plateau items I include as it's worthwhile pointing out that while they're attainable they won't be common.

I think again you're probably right here that some mention of Spirit's value and also more on its 2.4 improvement is probably the right way to go. However I was worried about stepping on other peoples guides and getting bogged down in math. I originally thought that people would have an idea of which stats they wished to choose. I'll be editing stuff properly over the week so if you want me to include anything including what specifically to say on spirit then drop me a PM with the details and I'll add it with acknowledgements.

Perhaps for the Kara Sidegrade/Upgrade section you could put the top 2 Pre-kara gear and say like Upgrade over 'x', or Sidegrade to 'x'.

It's a nice idea but due to prolonged illness this guide won't be updated other than to add possible S2 items when S4 starts or correct glaring errors as I'm taking a break from raiding and not playing too much at the moment. Should I do a similar listing for WotLK then I'll consider something along those lines.
If there are any specific questions regarding which gear to pick I'm sure there are enough people who post in the class forum who will happily help.
