While you're leveling, use whatever gives you the best stats. A hunter's melee weapons should be chosen based on +agility, +stamina, +intellect and similar bonuses.

Once you get near 70, you'll find a two-handed weapon has better stats than the combined stats of two one-handed weapons. At that point you'll be using exclusively two-handed weapons.

140 ignore armor vs 7 agi and 16 AP... i guess i'd go for the ignore armor.

What's the conversion rate for AP to Ignore Armour?

i think 100 converts to about 20-25 Ap, but ignore armor scales the more you have of it and the better your gear overall is.

WoW Wiki says its
1 Agility = 2 Armor
1 Agility = 1 Attack Power
http://www.wowwiki.com/Hunter

Hmmm, so maybe I should go for the Beast Lord gloves and get the four piece bonus. 'Ignore 600 armor upon use of your pet's kill command' is equal to around +300 attack power or agility. That would be a nice buff. It lasts 15 seconds, so on long fights it would be proced nearly constantly.

Umm nope.

1 agi gives 2 armor, 1 ap, 0.5 crit rating. It has nothing to do with "ignore armor" which is a totally different stat.

Ignore armor does what it says, it ignores an amount of you opponents armor. That is your shots will hit harder since your opponent has less armor when he is fighting you.
Roughly 100 ignore armor equal 20 attack power.
The more you have, the better ignore armor gets.
The less armor your opponent has, the better ignore armor is as a stat.
Both of this is because armor does not scale in a linear way.
E.g. my druid:
Tank equip, human form: 7032 armor reduce damage taken by 39.98%
Tank equip, bear form: 30,374armor reduce damage taken by 74.21%
Thus, the additional 23,352 armor reduce the damage my druid takes by 34.23%.

The first points of armor have a lot bigger effect on damage reduction than the next points. That is why stacking ignore armor is a good thing (but you should only care for that stat if you don't hurt the other stats too much).

I hope you are joking.
Just to be sure for the ~100th time
hunter = ranged dps class. Melee weapon is only there for stats as you should not do melee combat at all.

To continue on with this, if i would ignore 280 of Mul's 30,374 armor (boo not armorcapped! :P) i would ignore like... 0.2% damage reduction or something.
(i have no means of calculating this so its guesstimates)
If i shoot a clothie and ignore 280 of his ~2.5k armor that is going to make a much bigger impact and make my shots hit like 5% harder.

Notice that all but 2 of the bosses have either 6200 or 7700 armor. A similar pattern occurs in the trash mobs: 5475/5700/5950 or 6800/7100/7400 for level 70/71/72 mobs. In terms of percentage reduction, these values result in either 34.15% or 39.15% armor reduction vs attackers of the same level as the mob.

Q u o t e:
Bosses with 7700 armor
base reduction: 42,17% (7700 armor)
sundered 5x: 32,57% (5100 armor) - dmg increase for sunder: 16,61%
faerie fire: 29,84% (4490 armor) - additional dmg increase for fire: 4,05%
CoR: 25,85% (3680 armor) - additional dmg increase for CoR: 5,69%

Q u o t e:
Bosses with 6200 armor
base reduction: 37% (6200 armor)
sundered 5x: 25,43% (3600 armor) - dmg increase for sunder: 18,36%
faerie fire: 22,07% (2990 armor) - additional dmg increase for fire: 4,5%
CoR: 17,11% (2180 armor) - additional dmg increase for CoR: 6,36%

If the boss has just SA x5 on it, then the effect of ArP is as follows:
100 ArP: 0.71%/0.64%
200 ArP: 1.43%/1.29%
300 ArP: 2.16%/1.95%
400 ArP: 2.91%/2.62%
500 ArP: 3.66%/3.3%

For a fully debuffed boss (SA x5, FF, CoR) the increase from ArP is:
100 ArP: 0.79%/0.71%
200 ArP: 1.59%/1.42%
300 ArP: 2.41%/2.15%
400 ArP: 3.24%/2.89%
500 ArP: 4.08%/3.64%

Where the Left number is a mob with 6200 base armor and the Right number is 7700 base armor.
