Affliction for PvP?Follow

#1 Mar 24 2008 at 3:00 AM Rating: Decent
I'm building for a pvp arena lock. I have been affliction all game but am open to changing. Assuming I stay affliction, I've read spell crit does not affect affliction although i've seen my dots crit. Does increasing my spell crit increase each tick's crit chance?

If affliction is not the way to go, please offer suggestions and reasoning behind why another spec would be superior to affliction. Much appreciated.

No you have not, since they don't. I believe we get back to this part (which is correct):

Affliction is a good way to go, make no mistake about it.

Spell crit doesn't affect dots ,only immolate the initial hit and seed of corruption when it detonates.

Resilience killed destro, meaning you'll rarely get large crits and destro relies on crit more then any other spec.

Demo (to felguard) is alright for 5v5 ,even 3v3.
Aff is my favorite spec ,imo its THE spec for 5v5 even tho I 2v2 and 3v3 with it.
Sl/Sl is 2v2 and 3v3 spec,survivebilty (fail to spell correctly^^) and cc.

Aff pvp spec -got 2 spare points

Demo/felguard - got 2 spare points

Destro - again ,2 spare points

I can't say that I agree with that demo build of yours.
You've only placed one point in Demonic Knowledge, which is strange to say the least. And there's no talent point in Mana Feed either... those two "spare" points should go into DK and one point from imp. life tap should go into mana feed for the cookie cutter 6/44/11 build.

Interesting read.

I was specced Affliction till lvl 70, so I ended up with 43/7/11 (actually exactly the pvp build given above if my memory serves me well).

Then I read than SL/SL was THE spec for pvp survivability... I tried it but was very disappointed (pvping with the Fellhunter out):
- losing Improved Hoil of Terror is really problematic,
- losing Dark Pact is also pretty bad and I have mana issues most of the time,
- the mitigated damages from SL did not seem good enough to compensate for the above losses.

Then I tried an hybrid afflication / destruction build that maxamises the instant damages. Sure, I got better ShBolts, but nothing stellar... and the mana is still an issue.

Finally, I think I'll go back to my Affliction build. Kinda silly to be back to square 1, but at least now I'll know why Affliction is best.

Unless I'm missing something about the SL/SL build? Any tips on that?

Thanks,

nostra

You losse those yes,but you get
-insane magic resistance
-larger hp pool / dmg reduction

If you are up against casters ,they have no chance of winning unless they really outgear you.

Meele are to be kited and dotted,if you get stunned/charged/whatever drainlife and hope you outlast them (sl/sl speciality)

It needs some practise but yeah,it is the survivability spec.

True as regards the additional resistances and ability to take a beating. However, right now, I feel that the instant zone fear will serve me better. Once I hit around 200 resi, I'll give SL / SL another try, because by then I won't be hit for 5000 damage!

Thanks for the feedback anyway,

Thing is ,the more resilience you have = better affliction pvp =) ,sl/sl is best if you're abit undergeared.

Atm,i have 12.5k hp / 490resi ,im pretty confident with my aff build, but when i was low on resi i was sl/sl for quite some time.

Anyway, spec what you enjoy the most and have fun. )
