Holy Pally in PvP...Follow

#1 Mar 23 2008 at 3:10 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, so I'm a Holy PvE Pally, but I'd like to get some of the PvP epics to boost my heals until I can get better PvE gear for the particular slot(Bracers & Belt). I have a big problem with PvP though... I can barely do any healing because as soon as the Horde see me I get gang banged to death. So my question is how can a PvE Healadin survive in PvP long enough to actually do his job and earn some honor? I was thinking of respeccing to Shockadin so that I can actually fight back when jumped but not sure. Thanks.

Also, I know I have the wrong bracers on, but I was going for Shockadin for a while and went back to Holy.

Being a Healer of any class can be rough in PvP. However there is one important thing to remember. Like real estate its all about location, location, location. Try to maximize your healing from as far as way as possible and try to move with the pack. Trying to capture nodes by yourself or to heal a group of 3 people attempting to take on 6 is extremely difficult. What I try to do is find the best geared Warrior, Rogue, or Druid and follow them...I tend to avoid hunters as in most cases they'll try to play Hero and leave you by yourself to fend off a Lock or Rogue.

Taking down a Holy Paladin via melee is incredibly difficult especially if you're close to another class. Rogues in most cases would rather not deal with us, as our plate armor, Concentration Aura, and Consecration makes it extremely irritating to take us down while we continue to heal our comrades. Arms Warriors are another story, but like I said before....Being within range of a ranged DPS class even puts those monsters in their place.

Hope this helps to some extent.

Thanks for the reply. I have to admit that I pulled a nub move a few times and tried to capture a node when I saw we were falling behind. I won't be doing that anymore... Lol. I think following a larger group is a great idea and healing just within range is also good. If only I could get my BG members to defend their healer I think everything would be smooth. I sometimes wonder if being a healer in a pvp setting is even a viable concept with all the chaos going on but I'll give these tricks a shot. Thanks again.

Do what I did. Target, hide behind a tree or rock, and start spamming heals. Seems like a stupid suggestion, but it actually genuinely works. But that's in BGs, in arena, hide behind the Warrior.

First off - if you don't have it, get Healbot. Lets you run around and heal much easier.

Second - do not try and do any damage. You have the DPS of a butter knife. Lets the DPS folks do DPS, and focus 99% on healing.

Third - don't forget your bubble. If you are getting focus fired, then pop your bubble (if you can) and continue healing.

Fourth - you will die....a lot. Get used to it. Die, rez, and get back into fight.

Fifth - don't forget your BoP. Toss that on a caster, and they can continue killing before they get killed.

Sixth - you will die....a lot. Get used to it. Die, rez, and get back into fight.

Seventh - HoJ is your friend. Annoys the opposition (just like you get annoyed when you get sapped, feared, etc...).

Eigth - did I mention that you will die a lot?

I usually follow my party around and heal them when they are together. If they split then I will either stay and help defend a node or find a group of 2 or 3 and follow / heal them.

I did an EoS this weekend and I was tops on the Alliance side healing and I was 4th on the HK chart.

If you can do that you will always be helping your team to win.

Just remember to only bubble after you have been CC'd in some way and to use cleanse alot on the debuff's as best you can.

Get a mod like Healbot or Clique / Grid so you can heal faster and easier and also buff too when you can.

Pallys are the utility class and in the BG's you have the ability to use it to it's full extent.

the one this that I find that works the best is to put blessing of sacrifice on a war or a druid or a rogue, and watch them tear into peeps, seems like its a stupid question, but makes them almost unkillable. play with it, try it.

Yea you do tend to die alot but then again if the target of your heals see that you are keeping them alive - generally they will help you out.

I find that usually a rogue / warrior / druid is a good class to help out as when they see incoming heals and you are close - they will keep the melee off you.

Casters are a bigger problem for pallys as they stay at range and DoT you up or poly but then again if they are focusing on you and the melee with you can get close enough to hit them , you can bubble / cleanse out and keep the fight going.

Plus in my holy gear I have 694 Spell Damage - not alot but it makes a nice little kick in the box to someone when you cast Holy Shock on them.

My fav spell sequence for casters close to me that i have to deal with myself is SoC then judge , Holy Shock , HoJ , Consec (max rank),then call for the air strike , bubble and bandage. Pisses them off and hopefully stings them enough that my melee can kill them.

So yeah go out and get some in the BG's.

hey, if you reroll horde and make a holy pally you wont ever get attacked. ;)

And psh at all this "you will die" stuff. holy pallies are built to outlast and if you are being FFd, just heal yourself. bubble early, spam fol, hoj interrupters. If you are near some teamates they should be able to down everyone before you die unless you are vastly outnumbered.

if they are "gang raping" you, nobody else needs heals but you.

This is more true than you lead on :) Horde teams are just better. Once in a while, the Ally teams will get a few wins in a row. In general though, the Horde are just better organizers, and more focused on PvP. There are a million theories as to why this is, but none of them seem to help the Alliance teams. :P

Things that helped me go from the middle of the pack to the top of healing charts in almost every BG:

1. Spec- those points in prot tree are lifesavers! (I have 41/20)

2. When your damage starts to engage enemy, try to find structure to use to your advantage. I like to back up against walls/trees, whatever so droods and rogues cant get behind me.

3. Profit!

Drives me @#%^ing mad on my (Alliance) rogue. Occasionally I'll get one or two other DPS who target the healers with me, and that's a happy day.

At least on my server, Alliance could solve 50% of their PVP woes if they'd just learn to (1) move in groups, (2) target healers early, and (3) focus fire.

edit: (4) Fight at flags / nodes.

If you're doing PvP simply for gear and not for any real satisfaction, you'll want honor FAST. And the best way to do that is to:

1. Take all the advice given to you so far from this very educated board...

And combine it with

2. GET INTO PREMADES.

Everyone who complains about the Alliance losing is almost always playing in Alliance pugs. Get into a premade, people! It's not that hard; hell, on my PvE server, on weekends there are usually 2-3 groups going on. You'll make like 2x the honor per hour you'll make by losing, and have marks coming out of your ears. The marks are important too, as come 2.4, you can turn in 1 of each for 314 honor... as many times as you want. So you want honor? Get into a premade, follow the directions.

Most premades usually get a group with 4 DPS and one healer. You'll be that healer; let the DPS go in first, and follow the advice here. You'll run over the Horde (if you're Alliance), or kill even faster than usual (if you're Horde).

Truthfully. Premades. That's the key to it.

Since we are on the PvP BG subject, I just wanted to get some feedback on a silly thing I seem to do. I'm a Holy Pally. When I run out of mana, my MP5 will kick in, and I will be able to get off a FoL every few seconds. This seems kinda useless in PvP (to me).

So I started just rushing into the fray when I have no mana. Try to distract the enemy and have them pound on me for a while and kill me. Then, I rez with full mana, and run back into battle (assuming I'm kinda close to a GY).

Is that just dumb, and is there a better way to do it? I just hated standing there with no mana, being pretty useless. FoL just doesn't seem to cut it in PvP.

Woot! The responses are way more in depth than I anticipated! Thanks a bunch... it's good to see that i'm not the only one dealing with these frustrations. Pugging Ally BG's can be so frustrating at times that I won't even go near it for weeks on end. I like the Pre-made thing, it seems thats the only real way that allies will earn any honor. Thanks again, i'm sure I'll be checking back to this thread pretty often.
