question about soulshatterFollow

#1 Mar 23 2008 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
just got the spell soulshatter and from what the spell says it sounds like it's more of a raid spell than any others I've gotten so far, since in my 5 mans the tank is usually able to hold aggro while I nuke any mobs down. So I'm thinking maybe it's a more useful spell in kara or more likely in the 25 man raids? Anyone ever really use it?

I've used it abit in heroics and dungeons, but not very much in raids. I think that there will be alot more use in it when WoTLK comes out.

5man normals you can usually survive if you pull hate. 5man heroics and kara+ instances you can't survive if you pull hate (usually 1 shotted. 2 shotted if you're lucky), so you'll want it bound to a button you can press easily when needed. also the more +hit you have the less chance it'll be resisted and it's a demo spell so suppression doesn't affect it

It's situational. If you you have a tank who keeps aggro well you won't need it much, if at all. It's nice to have though for times when you have questionable or lower geared tanks or when fighting mobs that have threat wipes or can disable your tank. If the tank gets feared/gouged/MC'd/whatever and the boss comes after you it's nice to have the ability to drop you aggro.

Also, you don't have to wait until you actually pull aggro before using it. If you see yourself catching up to the tank in threat you can hit soulshatter and keep on DPSing without worrying about pulling aggro.

The OP was correct in assuming Soul Shatter is mostly for raids, because it is. I use it pretty much every raid, as when you are in a situation (as often happens in SSC, TK, etc.) when you have to blow all your cooldowns and down a boss before it enrages, it's great to use soul shatter pre-emptively and dps like crazy for the remainder of the fight.

Soulshatter has some uses in instances and heroics, and is a handy spell overall, but it really shines in late-game raids and fast-paced boss fights! I think it was a great addition to our class end-game.
