On the path of endgameFollow

As far as I can see this might help me get into Gruul and Kara. As far as gear planning goes.

Step one: run through as many heroic/normal TBC instances I can and get as much awesome gear as I can.

Step two: get all decked out in what PvP/Arena epic gear there is by the time I reach the Level cap I'm level 42 by the way so I may be totally wrong on this.

Step three: Use my PvP/Arena Ret gear in Gruul and Kara as a DPS role then inevitably be forced to buy the healing tier 4 gear so that my guild will let me go to Sunwell Isle, Mnt Hyjal, and Black Temple. that way I can go around and buy the tier 6 Ret gear then go back to Arenas/Bgs and let loose Pwnage that the alliance has yet seen from the class that they once considered theirs.

PS if my dream is overplanned tell me. If I should just skip the raiding gear and wait for WotLK to get some new gear, tell me. And If you have any suggestions/edditions to my plan..... Tell me.

Step one: Looks solid enough. Don't rush the heroics though, make sure you are geared properly with gear from the normal instances first. You can kinda squeek by on gear since you are dps, as in you can run the instance and the party probably isn't going to wipe because of you. But you are already going to be playing a spec that most people you are going to be running into will look down upon. If you come in behind the tank in damage at the end, it will be harder and harder to get groups in the future. Remember.. slow and steady wins the race.

Well Arena is only level 70, so you can't save up arena gear for when you hit the level cap. You can save up the Battlegrounds gear, I would just wait until you were 70 though. You are going to spend the same amount of time in the BGs either way, might as well wait until you can be somewhat of a threat in the BG, and get more HKs instead of spending your time at the spirit healer.

Step three... well you should be already building your healing set if you expect to heal once you hit 70. Also, the tier 6 ret gear isn't as good as the Arena Season 3 (and soon to be Season 4) gear for PvP. You're probably better off just doing arenas, getting the arena points that you can, and slowly build up your ret set. It might take a few months, but you'll be better off for it.

There aren't many guilds who even consider ret pallies, and even if you do get in, you have to very good at your job if you want to get a raid spot week in week out. My guild has one ret pally, without windfury he generally ends up 3rd or 4th on the dps charts, with windfury he still has to work exceedingly hard to get top spot. And he's pretty darn well geared.

It isn't impossible to raid as ret, far from it. But to be good at it, you really have to know how to play the class very well, and your understanding of theory has to be top notch. Not so much for kara, which is idiotproof easy, but more for T5 and beyond.

If you want to realistically get to T5 and 6 content, holy is the way to go. It doesn't suffer the gearing issues that still plagues ret, and there are never enough healers. However, you're most likely going to be forced to join a fresh into 70 guild that'll be clearing kara for the first few times. If so, don't expect to make it into T5 any time soon. If you're lucky you'll get into a T5 guild that's farming kara for fun, who'll let you come along and gear up.

If i were you, i'd just lvl to 70, farm cash for an epic flying mount and just twiddle your thumbs till WotLK comes out.

You can't make the jump from T4/PvP epics to Hyjal/BT. Let alone Sunwell which is going on the assumption you have full BT/Hyjal clears.

You are still going to want to ding 70, farm the 5 mans, get a few pvp pieces then farm Kara for 4-6 weeks depending on drops till you are in 80% kara epics. Then its Gruul, Mag (who will be a farm boss now). Once you are 95% pve epics its still going to require clearing SSC/TK for a number of pieces of loot or else you will be dead weight in T6/6.5 content.

Are you planning on your end goal being awesome in arena or being awesome in T6 and beyond?

Arena and PvP

Just do that then, don't bother with the raiding part of it. You'll eventually get all the gear you want/need.

Ok, I just was a little confused on what to do. Looks like I'm going to have to get raid gear cause my guild only has 4 endgame healers so far. They said that they were fine with me being ret every other month but my guild leader told me that I should spec holy on the months in between that way I have plenty of expericence healing so that by the time of WotLK our guild has at least one more healer for when we feel like killing Arthas...

PS thank you for the help.
