Binding keysFollow

#1 Mar 22 2008 at 1:26 PM Rating: Good
Hi everyone!

I am feral and fed up of raiding so I am going PvP a little now. ^^

There is 1 problem with playing feral. I need to jump and run a lot around enemy so I can't play with using abilities by mouse-clicking.

I want to bind all of my important feral abilities to keyboard as every feral player did while ago.

Can somebody help me to do it,make some suggestions and stuff?

Bongos maybe?

You can use the standard user interface for keybinding as well. You don't necessarily have to download an addon just to use keybindings.

I personally have my Feral abilities in this order:

Bear

1 - Bash
2 - Lacerate
3 - Mangle/Maul macro
4 - Feral Charge
5 - Swipe
F - Frenzied Regeneration
Shift+F - Enrage

Cat

1 - Maim
2 - Rake
3 - Mangle
4 - Ravage/Shred macro
5 - Pounce
6 - Tiger's Fury
F - Ferocious Bite
Shift+F - Rip

Multi-Form

E - Faerie Fire/Faerie Fire (Feral) macro
R - Shadowmeld/Prowl macro
Shift+E - Growl/Cower macro
Alt+1 - Demoralizing Roar/Dash macro
Alt+2 - Abolish Poison
Alt+3 - Remove Curse

And my heals are bound to Shift+1 to Shift+5:

S1 - Lifebloom
S2 - Healing Touch
S3 - Regrowth
S4 - Rejuvenation
S5 - Tranquility

My shapeshifting abilities are bound to Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+5:

C1 - Bear form
C2 - Aquatic form
C3 - Cat form
C4 - Travel form
C5 - Flight form

I've bound the abilities to keys that, for me, are the easiest to reach. The standard user interface gives you an actionbar for each form. I'm not sure if we get one for Prowl in Cat form, but with the Ravage/Shred macro I don't really need it.

Here are some explanations on the macros:

Mangle/Maul - casts Mangle if it's ready, otherwise Maul
#showtooltip
/cast Mangle (Bear)()
/cast Maul

Ravage/Shred - casts Ravage if stealthed, otherwise Shred
#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Ravage; [nostealth] Shred

Faerie Fire/Faerie Fire (Feral) - casts Faerie Fire if in caster form, otherwise Faerie Fire (Feral)
#showtooltip
/cast [nostance][stance:5] Faerie Fire(); [stance:1/3] Faerie Fire (Feral)()

Growl/Cower - casts Growl in Bear form and Cower in Cat form
#showtooltip
/cast [stance:1] Growl; [stance:3] Cower

Demoralizing Roar/Dash - casts Demoralizing Roar in Bear form and Dash in Cat form
#showtooltip
/cast [stance:1] Demoralizing Roar; [stance:3] Dash

Shadowmeld/Prowl - casts Shadowmeld in caster form and Prowl in Cat form
#showtooltip
/cast [nostance][stance:5] Shadowmeld; [stance:3] Prowl

By selecting the red question mark as macro icon, it will show whichever of the abilities named in the macro is available. For instance, my Growl/Cower macro icon will show that of Growl if I'm in Bear form and that of Cower when I'm in Cat form.

Furthermore, by putting #showtooltip at the beginning of the macro, just like with the icon, it will display the proper tooltip for whichever ability is available. Using the same macro as example, in Bear form it will show Growl's tooltip and in Cat form, Cower's tooltip.

You probably knew all of this, but there you have it.

All the abilities are lined up on four actionbars. But I'm using a huge addon compilation which completely changes the look of the user interface. Below is a screenshot of my Druid in Bear form, targeting a guard:

Screenshot

The top-right actionbar changes when I shapeshift, but the keys stay the same, meaning 1 is always Maim in Cat form, Bash in Bear form and Starfire in caster form.

Hope this all helped a bit.

For the record, the addon compilation I'm using is MazzleUI.

Thank you very much m8!

I will not change Blizzard's UI cause I hate to change something that I am used to it for like 2 years!

But,I must start to bind keys cause always looking at ActionBar while mouse-clicking while pvping is not a good thing.

Just tried Mangle/Maul macro,but it won't work. :S

I must wait allways for CD and Maul doesn't "cast" at all!

If Mangle is ready and you have enough rage, it should cast Mangle instantly and then Maul afterwards (Maul is not instant, remember this). If Mangle is not ready yet, it will just cast Maul (still not instant).

What happens when you use the macro? Does it just cast Mangle and give an error or what?

I c/p your macro, have put it to my actionbar and asked for duel to try it.

I cast mangle, and the only thing I see after it is numbers of cooldown (I have addon showing numbers of cd of my abilities when I click them).

Icon of macro doesn't change to Maul at all. I can just wait for Mangle to finish then I can click only Mangle again.

I think cooldown addon doesn't ***** this up?

The Mangle/Maul macro doesn't change icon when you use Mangle, since Mangle is always available in Bear form, it might just be on cooldown. I don't know if you can make it change to show Maul when Mangle is on a cooldown.

If you have the required rage for both a Mangle and a Maul, it should cast Mangle instantly and load up a Maul which will hit on the next swing. It'll then display the cooldown on Mangle, but you can still use the macro and it'll cast Maul instead, until Mangle is ready and then it'll cast Mangle and Maul again.

I usually hold the right mouse-button down whenever I'm moving around, so I can turn my character with the mouse instead of the keys. For forward/backward/strafe movement I use the WASD keys.

Furthermore, since you can't use Ctrl+1 and W at the same time (with one hand, at least), I have Autorun bound to a third mouse-button and I click it whenever I want to access the keys Ctrl+number, Alt+number, Shift+number and 2.

I've had many years of practice and I know my keyboard by heart. For instance, I don't have to look at the keyboard when I'm typing. You could give me a piece of paper and a pencil and I could draw the keyboard with all the keys in the right places.

When you've been playing computer on a daily basis for ten years, you sorta get to know your way around a keyboard. Still, the Ctrl+number keys aren't that easy to reach. My fingers aren't long enough and someone with even shorter fingers would have serious issues.

My little finger on my left hand (obviously) is used to hold down Shift or Ctrl while I select the number with my middle or index finger. The left thumb is used to hold down Alt. My index finger is used to press the E, F and R keys, which are all bound to abilities as well.

The right hand is always on the mouse. Always. Well, unless I'm typing and need to type a lengthy message relatively fast.

But when you are using 1,2,3,4 abilities,do you still move with WASD or with mouse only(by clicking left and right mousebutton at same time)?

It is hard to move with WASD and clicking 1,2,3,4 at same time. :S

Well, it's hard hitting the 2-key while moving forward with the W-key, since they're right next to each other and I use my middle finger for both of them. So that's when I use either both mouse-buttons or the Autorun button to move while I hit the key.

Mind you, it all happens so fast, no one really notices.

I thought of playing with my all fingers of left hand on numbers (1,2,3,4,5) and my right hand clicking left and right mousebutton at the same time.

That sounds easier to me,I think.

PvPing with Feral is so good to me and I must bind almost every ability to perform well. :(

Pressing both mouse buttons sounds painful to me, just because it happens on accident if it happens at all :D Like Mazra said, I bind one of the extra mouse buttons (like the one that brings your web browser back one page, located on the side of most mouses) to Autorun, and just click it again when i need to stop moving... That's if im sure ill be running forward for a while or if i need my left hand to use abilities. Otherwise, i stick to WASD incase i need to run backwards a bit.

btw, im downloading that ui addon right now :D

From my knowledge of macros, if you have enough rage and mangle is not on cooldown, Mangle will fire then Maul will queue.

If you don't have enough rage or mangle is still on cooldown, then the macro will stop and the maul will not fire. Failed "casts" stop the macro at that point.

You could use (I think) :-

/castrandom Mangle (Bear)()
/cast Maul

But that will always fire maul and will fire Mangle whenever it is off cooldown (not sure what happens if you don't have enough rage as I have only used the castrandom command on my hunter so far).

You could posssibly use 2 macros, 1 for high rage and one for lower rage.

/castrandom Mangle (Bear)()
/cast lacerate

or

/castrandom Mangle (Bear)()
/cast lacerate
/cast maul

If you are at low rage though, you shouldn't spam the either as you need the mangle to go off and if you are spamming lacerate, you might never have enough rage for the mangle

Or you can just do all this manually like I do :)

My explanation wasn't correct, RareBeast. It will indeed fire Mangle if it's ready and there's enough rage for it. It will then queue Maul for the next swing. If you don't have enough rage for anything, or if Mangle is on cooldown, it will just queue Maul. Of course, you'd have to get the needed rage before the next swing or the Maul will not fire.

I'm 99% sure it will cast Maul if Mangle is on cooldown, though.

sort of... Bongos is included in MazzleUI, which is what Mazra linked in the 2nd thread post. I like it, though still use healbot in addition to everything else (and there about 4 downloads you need for Mazzle now, maybe 3... but it really cleaned things up!)

I usaully bind dps macros to my number keys dependant on which form I'm currently in, and leave my healing to the numberpad. This leaves my left hand free to move while i heal with my right. My dps macros are pretty simple, just a lot of repitition for each form

#showtooltip
/cast [stance:X] SPELL(rank); [stance:Y]
...and just continue like this until you cover all the forms with an ability that you wanna cast. This saves a ton of buttons on your screen too.
