Heroics/Kara 30/21/10Follow

#1 Mar 20 2008 at 6:02 PM Rating: Default
Just screwin around with builder but I'm lookin for something new.

Guilds progressing but its slow, so I'm stuck in PVP and Kara stuff and I really don't like doing complete cookie-cutting.

Since my Crit% is so low (currently Affliction) would this make for a good in-between build while we progress? Kinda feeling done with PVPing for a while.

Im sorry to say that the 40/21 build is extremely poor for DPS umless your spellsmg is very, very bad (like, under 400). Once spelldmg starts altering your damage profile, you need Bane from Destruction so you can keep Shadowbolting; that build increases the damage of TWO spells only, SL and Corruption. It doesnt increase SB DPS as you lose that 15% in cast time, and you lose ALL the DPS from Unstable Affliction which is quite a lot.

You can try it if you like, but I wouldnt.

I don't follow?

With Shadow Mastery you get 10% Bonus to Shadow Spells, with SucSac you get 15% additional. You get Drain Life and Fel Conc which are great for special Boss Fights, CoEx for Kiting, Amp Curse for Dooming, Nightfall off Corruption spams (instant corruption which 0/21/40 doesn't get), and increased survivability with Demo.

I currently run with 42/7/11 and consistently outperform SuccySac Locks who have better gear than I simply through playing smart and using a perfected DoTRot.

Where 30/21/10 Lacks in UA I think it makes up heavily with the SucSac but maintains the SBolt Spam capabilities with Bane and Nightfall.

Any other opinions that I can follow better?

I ran 30/21/10 back in the day of kara progression raids. It does fine, and I didn't notice too much of a difference between UA and hybrid. It doesn't cut it past gruul though, no destructive reach/intensity = fail.

Past Gruul you should be cruising with 202 Hit EZ and be able to focus on Int and Crit%, so I'd just go with Destro build =)

Thanks for the input, however. Perhaps I'll give it a try.

General rule of thumb is that you need UA if you don't have 20% crit and you need Ruin if you do, but you always want one or the other in any affliction heavy raiding build.

On paper, 30/21/10 does almost identical damage to a UA build. It falls behind mostly due to spell pushback.. and 1/43/17 is miles ahead of any UA or SM/Ruin build in damage yet it has neither of those supposedly 'key' talents.

Good point on the demo spec, fixed my post.
#9 Mar 21 2008 at 10:25 AM Rating: Default
Even with flawless DoTRot UA accounts for approx 7% of my damage output (with SM already) where SBolt accounts for nearly half on big boss fights. I'm curious how cutting 7% out to boost the rest of my damage output additional % would be identical. I'll have to try it out. Mainly I love Dark Pact with my current build, its less a burden on the healers.

Also, I'm curious about the 42 Demo build. Can I see it plz =)

I too am a little baffled how cutting UA from my casting rotation cuts my DPS when my damage meters show Shadowbolt being the primary source of damage. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd look at all the math behind it and try to figure it out. However, the fact remains that it does, just look at leleuirs spreadsheet, or however you spell it. Don't know why or how, and don't wish to relearn enough Math to figure it out. It just works that way.

BTW, I really had nothing to add, just wanted to say something to test my new Sig.

Edit: Which apparently doesn't work......Still

oh well, guess I'm stupid and need premium to put the image there, oh well.

Mind you that I'm a complete moron at seeing through the obvious on these things, but wouldn't it be better to ditch Demonic Sacrifice and get Dark Pact instead? So as to make it a 31/20/10 build?

Or is Demonic Sacrifice really that much more useful? 15% shadow damage over infinite mana? Of course, I don't know what it's like in a raid. Come to think of it, if you get healed constantly, Life Tap would be just like Dark Pact.

Never mind.

It depends what fight it is...

Certain fights require so much from a Lock that its required that you blow Mana Pots as soon as you can get the full effect in order to blow the next one asap, other fights are much more relaxed.

Locks are not the ultimate in burst damage, but the potential is definatly there compaired to many classes.

Dark Pact, however, rounds out the class as one with a bit more endurance in Boss fights, however on a realistic Scale a boss battle looks like.

DOTRoT Spam 4 ReDoT Spam 2 DP DoTRot Spam 3 Redot ... then you're stuck Lifetapping for another few rounds reguardless. Lifetap can be replaced with DP about once every 3 mana-up situations, so it's definatly a boost but it saves no time and in the end there are many times when a healer would not mind spending the mana/time on you.

Many of our "heavy" raiders use a SuccySac/Destro build which is actually worse than this mana-wise since after a quick DoTRot goes directly into SBSpam and eats mana like crazy. I dont have the Crit% to make this a good spec for me yet, nor the Hit...

I just would use this in the meantime while I gather up more Hit and Crit.

30/21/10 I found that if I started life-tapping early, siphon life would keep me topped through the entire fight (except environmental damage, which a healer tops you off from anyways). Mind you, last time I seriously used the build was on Prince about six months ago, but it should still hold true if you have enough +damage.

And regarding "Warlocks not having burst damage".. 0/21/40 with Bloodlust/Trinket/Destruction potion is the definition of burst damage. Wayyyy too much fun.

Mazra, you have too many posts.

I said Locks arn't the *best* at burst, but the potential is there.

In terms of pure DPS...

Arcane Mage tops out Destro Lock so bad it's a 2 to 3 situation in the same set of gear.

Of course then your looking at endurance problems... but what is "burst" without some mana being burnt =)
