My friend is leveling up a newly rolled druid. As his main is a Shaman, he plans to go into tanking for a change of pace (he was quite taken aback that my 62 bear form druid made a better tank than his 70 shammy, heh)
I plan to level up a priest with him (I have one that I parked at 29 so I'll probably just pick it up) but I'm wondering what spec would be best for leveling with a dps/tank - disc or shadow? AFAIK, both can do damage and heal in a pinch, so what really is the difference? Disc seems to be the preferred for arena - do they have more survivability?

disc has more survivability than shadow or holy, but all priests are squishy.
if you plan to pvp, roll pally+druid. else roll 2 druids, and really confuse ppl in 2v2

After going back and forth with my priest, in a 2v2 team, my personal belief is that a priest sucks, period. If you are just leveling for fun, then go Shadow Priest as you will both be able to heal if needed and it will boost your DPS to quickly kill mobs.
If you are planning for Arena endgame, then look into a class that you like, but offers great burst damage or control ability. Rogues and mages come to mind for this. If you are planning on joining a 5v5 team, then the priest is great, but you will want them to be Disc spec for said survivability.
(I have tried numerous specs with my Priest recently as she was semi retired but some RL friends have pleaded for me to bring her back... I understand why everyone says Disc for a priest in Arena's now. While not overly clear without reading through a lot of threads, a priest becomes the focus fire target du jour when in Arena's. This means you need every single ability available to make you last as long as possible. However, I am respeccing once again back to shadow, but set up with every PvP ability possible and so forth. Not much surviving, but lots more fun.)

OKay to start Priest DO NOT SUCK IN ARENA!!!Ive seen team's that revolve around the Priest.So how is this possible you ask???#1 I dont care what anyone tells you its the person behind the Toon.#2Gear and Spec. Priest have all the tools to survive and heal(and a Disc priest=Why wont you just DIE!!!).So what i recommend is when you hit 70 try your best to obtain 400 Resiliance.Go Disc for Arena and if your Druid friend is good im sure you guys will do fine in this.People dont realize that Resiliance is HUGE,so dont let people get you down when they say Priest suck.A buddy of mine had a 5v5 arena team that Disbanded cause of one guy(yup a Disc priest),and i thought Why?This guy was just able to survive and heal and just not Die to the bitter end.Im working on a Priest,my homeboy a Warrior and we are just pvp addicts.Out of all the classes i would pick a Priest(cause i know ill get good at it,Remember #1)and well my homeboy eats people with a War(were rerolling Horde).So yeah man dont let these threads make you change your mind.peace

But seriously if your always going to duo with a druid while leveling I would just spec holy or shadow and let your druid friend tank.
