Tanking the dragon in RampsFollow

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle the dragon in Ramps?

We had 2 hunter's a Feral Druid, myself and a Holy Pali.

We could down the rider with little problem but that dragon was tearing us up. we got lucky and downed him with just me and the holy pali left.

I managed to pop a thunderclap when he was at like 40 health or something to finish him off right before he would have ate me. I had to back out of the fight and bandage 2 times, the Pali had to pop her LoH on me towards the end of the fight as she didn't have enough mana to even give me a FoL and I was down to 100 health.

I also got a bubble from her... unfortunately that is how the rest of the DPS died. How do we deal with this boss? The druid was tanking the rider. then once the dragon came down I switched to sword and board and defensive stance and held him long enough to down the rider. then the druid took over aggro and I let him tank it while Maintaining second in Threat.

He was just getting hit so hard from that first I don't know if we can do anything different. We even had our healer have the Fire resist aura on.

Anyone have any advice on how to fight him properly? The druid did alot of jumping and made the dragon spin a lot. I think that's why we were getting hit more than we should have been. Though he was doing to stay out of the fire.

Do I need to move around a lot like that or just wait until the breath and move off that ground?

dunno how much this will help you, but when i went there i knew that boss was a pita and i brought sta food and a fort pot. I also popped shield wall at about 30% or so. As for avoiding the flames, i didnt do anything just stood in it, though i have heard of this and would like to know more for when i do heroics.

i also tanked both the rider and the dragon. This was with a pretty craptacular DPS setup as well. Heals were top notch though.

Yeha the dragon pretty much raped the druid at his 8k health.

In the process of his jumping around I lost 4k health of my 5.7 and had to back out of the fight because my wife told me she wouldn't be able to heal me as she was using everything she had on the druid.

I backed up and bandaged and had to do it 1 more time before the druid went down and I ended up with a bubble to prevent the physical damage from getting through. Though the fires still were eating me up. I got a heal and then a LoH when I dropped critically low. My wife managed to get enough mana back to pop a devine protection to lose her aggro while I had my bubble on, and then got a Holy light off right before the boss died.

I was at 300 health when my thunderclap killed the boss... not a fun fight as we wiped 3 times on that boss.

Whoever is tanking should keep the dragon faced away from the rest of the group. This should keep them from being hit by the dragon breath. Definetly try to stay out of the fire as it burns on the ground. If your tank can keep aggro on the dragon, that frees up the healer to just focus on healing the tank and letting the dps do its job.

As long as your healer can keep you alive through the Fire Breath attack you should be fine. The biggest problems I ever had with that fight were dying immediately when he used breath. Just move around a little after every breath to avoid standing in the fire patches. It's still a pita, but the hardest part of that is finding a healer who can keep you alive through the breath, even if it is only a second or two in duration.

I always face him to the right of the bridge. That way I don't try to avoid the flames and accidently move out of the healer's range.

I also noticed that his hit box is HUGE. After the 1st flame spot on the ground I just walk backward until I'm a good distance away (still hitting him), it seems to do less damage, I'm prolly mistaken about the less damage... just seemed like it.

Pop trinkets, Fire resist pots, potions, HP stones, 1/2 hour... by the time you'll need that again it'll be off CD.

Sounds like a plan. I did use shield wall as soon as I started tanking him because he was hitting me hard. but we wiped so I lost that CD, so i had to try to be more creative.

I will let our druid friend know to not jump in circles like that. I was getting roasted while DPSing on that boss when he took tankin over.

1/2 hour on CD and you want to take less damage?

Try one of these:
[wowitem=13455]Greater Stoneshield Potion[/wowitem]
or the good stuff
[wowitem=22849]Ironshield Potion[/wowitem]

Buff wears you can pop another one, no waiting.

Good call. Do you know the Alch requirement to make those? I am farming up mats for my Druids Alchemy.

She's at 150 or so and only lvl 20 =D Almost high enough to make my rage pots for my warrior. I am sure those will come in handy sooner than later.

having some FR is nice for this fight. vazruden himself doesnt hit terribly hard, but the fire from nazan is a ***** and a half. the two things you need to remember are to

A.) face him away from the group so his forward aoe cone fire doesnt own them.

B.) dont stand in the liquid fire he shoots at you. you can usually rotate him left and right to get out of range, but if he uses it a lot you may need to back up and readjust position.

the transition from vaz to naz is the hardest part because naz will usually make a beeline for your healers, so get ready to pick him up asap. you can usually ignore vaz after naz lands and just tank naz while the dps burns vaz.

alternatively, if you have a lot of ranged dps, focus naz first while the tank solo tanks vaz. once naz is low enough he'll land, then the tank just switches to naz while everyone burns naz down. blowing shield wall at this time helps a lot, or any other survivability cools the tank has, and having an off healer is nice too, since dps on the tank will be pretty high for a moment.

Everyone is bang on here! BUT here is what I found helped a bundle... FIRE RESISTANCE GEAR. yes that meant I carries a set of Greens to tank NAZ(dragon) and what da know! First time it went remarkably well and everytime there after at 60 non-prot spec. The fire restistance gear actually drops in Ramps to make it easy, its like Blizzard knew you would have a prob with him! So keep an eye out and need them fire resist greens.

I feel like I'm dittoing much of what was said, but it really is all about where you get him faced. The many wipes I endured before finally getting the hang of it I made a lot of stupid mistakes, yes I needed to pick up the aggro quickly but I shouldn't have run as far away from the group as I did to do so. Yes I got him turned away from the group. But, apparently no one else followed me. That's when it got bad. Another thing is a quick check to make certain that all others have all threat grabbing abilities off, growl, torment, etc. I had to arm wrestle a hunters pet for aggro and unfortunately the cat won just in time for a fire blast to hit everyone in the party BUT me.

Funny you mention that your wife is your holy pally, my wife and I have the same set-up. It's great when all goes smoothly, but oh I don't take PUG members ranting at her when they don't have any clue what they are talking about. A good Tank/ Healer team can always find other DPS. /uninvite Enjoy the hearth!
