I enjoy it. Tanking is my thing, I did it in FFXI & I guess I'll do it in WOW =)

Most tanks re-spec or re-roll or even quit because the stress & dedication levels that go with MT'n raids. That is also a LONG way from Lv1.

Pally tanks are awesome, but like all other class set-ups your not going to be Illidan. You will have set-backs. YES, Druid tanks can & will use Cat as DPS when no longer tanking. This is the Druid strong spot & is why they are always on Skull or the 1st to kill MOB. Because they "can" DPS... prot pallys can not and prot warriors are not far ahead. Kill order is normally:

Druids > Warriors > Pallys

Now that's not always, but it's a good guide line. The part Druids might lack in would be Avoidance & Threat. I believe Paladin & Warrior can best a Druid there. Which is why you normally see War/Pally tank combo's.

Warriors make very good OTs, when Paladin normally struggle when the target is attacking another player. A Warrior/Druid can do nicely with keeping threat at #2. DPS usually has to compensate if the pally is trying to hold #2. Also, bring mana pots for those times.

Exactly how do your friends expect to make it to the big bad bosses without going through the trash? End-game trash is still end-game.

That aside -- I've main tanked progression kills all the way through end-game. There are lots of encounters where I prefer a Warrior or a Druid to handle it but don't buy any garbage from people who say that Pallies are only good as trash tanks in end-game. I can't recall playing with a Warrior or Druid who could produce more threat in Kara, even if that doesn't count for much.

We have our advantages. But we have our disadvantages too. Something lots of Pally tanks suffer from is elitism. We work so hard to shove the truth down the naysayers faces by demonstrating what we can really do that we forget about our weaknesses and play right into them. Play to your strengths and everyone you've grouped with will be saying "God.. I wish we had a pally tank for this encounter" (for one of MT or OT) when there isn't one available. Play into your weaknesses and you'll be reinforcing the stigma.

When I join a group I get, "Love pally tanks!". After I'm done grouping i get, "nice tanking by the way," tells. (if only they'd known i was watching tv half the time).

I had one guy halfway through Underbog throw up his hands and declare, "THIS IS STUPID!!!!"
We were all boggled. Thought he was about to quit, and had no idea why. Then he continues with, "Paladin tanks are so much better than warriors! I have a 70 warrior and this is was more efficient than anything i was able to do."
He was talking about no CC, just AOE tank everything and let the mages open up. He stayed and we won.

Yea... they use CC for mob control due to threat issues. We use CC for survivability and item durability.. because I'll be damned if I'm going to let 7 heroic mobs beat on me and contribute to breaking my shield.

Funny... I'm still not quite clear what "end game" is. Is there an end to this game?
Ahh... more rum.

Pally Tanks rule. As one, I love playing a pally tank. The only time I have problems in instance is when I get to big for my britches and jump in an instance that I've done zero homework on or when the healer sucks.
When grinding, I can take on 4+ mobs and watch tv. In instances, w/ a good healer I can do the same. It's beautiful.

As a Priest (my lvl 62 alt) I love a pally tank over any other because I can heal all day long on those 2+ pulls and never worry about pulling healing agro... which always seems to happen with Druids and Warriors. Healing (in my opinion) is fun and I do enjoy the roll. But I get very easily frustrated with tanks that can't hold agro. As of yet, I've never had that problem with a pally tank.

I also have to agree on this point,

Maybe the reason we don't get the credit we deserve is because the Big Bad Boss isn't falling on top of us at the end. But the mass of dead corpses in our wake is what got that Warrior/Druid his fame.

Drink to that!

Well, SOME of us use CC. I'm too tough and stubborn for that personally :P BRING ON THE PAIN!

And I'm in the same boat as you Fife. Actually, when I first started tanking as Prot (TBC) it was, "Well, if you think you can handle it, we'll give it a try (only cause we can't find a Warrior ...)." Now it's always, "WE LOVE PALY TANKS!!! When they are good :)"

I did a PUG Kara last night (I know, glutton for punishment) and just about everyone in there kept sending me tells throughout the run, "Holy damn, you're the !@#$," or, "Best damn tank I've seen!" I don't mean to tute my own horn, but to show that if played right, you can be a damn good tank.

I love it too when a Mage asks, "What's my Sheep target?" (or any CC class asking their target) and I reply, "You don't have one." They get so excited, lol. You'd think they won the lottery or something.
