Retribution Paladin + Arms Warrior in 2v2Follow

#1 Mar 19 2008 at 1:53 PM Rating: Decent
Hello.
Me and my friend wanted to try this combo in 2v2. While we will level the chars (Shouldn't last more than 1-2 weeks) we wanted to hear from you if it's possible to get to 2000 starting from the basic s1 gear(soon s2). Also, we would like to hear from experienced players that play this combo, what would be the strategy for it(We were thinking to control the healer with HoJ,Repeteance and Intimidating Shout while we burst down the dps, but I guess this won't always work vs high resilience targets). So, what's your opinions?
Thanks in advance.

You'll need to adapt your strategy to the team your fighting.

Say when you are fighting an identical team, war+pali vs war+pali

You can't just 'burst' down either of them.

It is possible to get to 2000 rating, but you have to be good, just like everyone else who plays and gets to 2000 rating.

What about a drood+war team? How do you control the druid?

You should come up with solutions to each team combination, or at least the most common ones; war+pali, war+drood, priest+rouge, druid+lock, priest+lock, druid+hunter...

Here's a good example of a war+pali team that can and does do very sucessefully;

2300+ rating

there's a pretty big difference between ret pally and holy pally like shown in your link.

Hi everyone, I've been waiting to hear some info on this combo for some time. I have a 37/24 warrior (as an experiment based on the typical 33/28, 31/30 builds) with partial S1 gear (only 4 or 5 pieces), and my friend has a ret pally. Now, he's very poorly geared at this time, but I could still use some comments on what type of pally would be most beneficial. All the research I've done so far (a few hours worth) is conflicting as to whether Ret/Prot or Holy/Prot is a better combo for the arena. Surely it depends on what class the pally is play with, and finding warrior/pally info from experienced players has been tough. What's going to benefit us more as a warrior/pally combo: healing talents or damage talents on the pally? Does his dreadful gear affect that decision?

Any insight is greatly appreciated :)

PS, not to hijack the thread, I didn't think it'd be appropriate to post a new one considering the thread title.

Since the end of season 1, holy paladins have become less than fantastic in both 2v2 and 3v3. Ret has actually become "better" than it was. However, to pull off the ret build you gotta have some good gear. if your friend was willing to jump into BGs and get all the S1 and vindicator's gear i think you would have a shot.

Personally i dunno how well ret+war would do, ive been out of the arena this last season and havent really seen what comps are out there, mainly druid+war/rogue/lock though i'm guessing. Ret pally is kinda the "anti druid" with the ability to keep the druid from running via JoJustice. They also do well against melee opponents. The ability to cleanse most of the warlock damage also looks good.

TBH, i really dunno and im just talking, but if you are good you could have some success with ret i think as long as he's got some gear. In my head it looks like like a good counter-comp to the popular teams. There are some changes coming in 2.4 that might affect a holy paladins success, mainly reductions on mana draining abilities.

war/ret pally is about the hardest counter to a druid+1 combo you can find, the exceptions being druid+mage (which are pretty uncommon). make sure the pally is human (perc helps loads) and he just rides around looking for the druid with sader aura on. soon as he finds the druid, he judges justice on him and the war and pally just go to town on the druid, utilizing a combo of BoF on the warrior and DS on the pally to keep pressure up on the druid.

the druid HAS to stay in bear or else get destroyed immediately. the druids ally has to find a way to peel both the warrior and the pally off the druid, which for every class but mage is not an easy thing to do.

but pretty much anything with a mage is going to beat you. a ret paladin doesnt have the mana to spam cleanse to keep nova and poly off. a good frost mage could quite possibly take an arms war and ret pally 1v2.
